Chapter 44: Chapter 44
Wade put me on the front seat of his car and turned around to the driver's seat. He took something from the back of his car and offered it to me. It was a bottle of water. He already opened it and I accepted it. I drank almost half of it and gave it back to him. I was a bit calm now unlike earlier when I almost passed out.
"Here, wear this," Wade said as he put his jacket on me.
"Thanks," I said.
"Did he hurt you?" He said as he looked at me intently.
I shook my head. "Not really," I said.
"What do you mean not really?" He said.
"He just held me so tight that my hand hurts but it's fine now," I said and I didn't even glance in his way.
"That asshole is going to pay!" He said. "How dare he hurt you!"
"Thank you for saving me," I said and looked at him straight in the eyes. I was grateful that he was there to rescue me. I was mad at him but he still saved me.
"Of course," He said.
A moment of silence passed until I couldn't help it anymore. I asked him what I have been meaning to ask him ever since I heard his voice earlier.
"What are you doing here? How did you find me?" I said.
I heard him sighed. "I investigated where Erin has been these past few days that she was out of town and I found out that she was here... with you."
"What?" I said. "Since when did you know about it?"
"Just this afternoon," He said. "I was glad I did, I couldn't forgive myself if something bad happened to you here."
"Nothing bad happened to me and that's because of you," I said as a matter of fact.
"I'm just glad that I came just in time," He said. "Good thing we have really good private investigators."
I nodded. The things that a rich and powerful man can do, there's no wonder that he found me. It's not that I was complaining in fact I was thankful.
We heard knocks on his window and so he opened it.
"Sir, we got him. By the way, Miss Camierre, these are your things from the cab." One of his men said as he handed me my bag and my shopping bags as well. "What are we going to do with him, sir?"
"Bring him to the police station and file a complaint against him. Don't let him get away with this." He said.
"Aren't you and Miss Camierre going with us, sir?" The man said.
"No," Wade said. "As much as I would like to see that man behind the cells, I have other things to do. I have to make sure that my wife gets home safely first. Do everything in our power to make sure he can't get out of the cell."
My wife, it sounded real when he said it, irony from what we really are. The anger inside of me builds up. I am not his wife; he just married me so his best friend can get his revenge. It felt like the pain that he injected on me came back and I was furious.
"No, don't bother," I said as I opened the door to my side. "I can go home alone. You don't have to take care of me. I am not your responsibility and most of all; I am not your wife."
I went out of his car along with my bags and walked out of there. I heard him calling me but I never looked back.
"Shit!" I heard him behind me. "Cami!"
"Stop following me!" I yelled at him as I walked faster. "Leave me alone!"
I was about to take another step when he held my hand. It was the hand that the cab driver held so tight that I felt like it has bruises now.
"Ouch!" I yelped and cried in pain when he held it.
"I'm sorry," He said as he let go of my hand. "You have bruises. We need to get you to a hospital."
"No!" I said. "Just leave me alone, Wade!"
"Really? After what happened? You want me to leave you alone? Are you insane?" He said.
"Why? Do you think that because you saved me, I already forgot what you did to me?" I said.
"N-no," He said. "But please can you stop this nonsense now? Come on; I'll take you home."
"I don't want to be with you. I don't even want to see you." I said as I turned my back on him and walked.
"Stubborn," He murmured but I still heard him.
"What did you say?" I said as I faced him and put my hands on my waist.
"Nothing," He said. "Okay, how about I drive you home and leave? Alright, I promise you, I won't stay. Just let me take you home and then I'll be gone. You won't have to deal with me." He said.
"No," I said as I continued walking with him trailing behind.
"Come on Cam, this place is dangerous." He said and he sounded frustrated. "You realized how dangerous this place is, don't you?"
Well, he has a point. This place really looked like a place where scary movies were done. I stopped and faced him. He's right. I can't do this alone.
"Alright," I said. "You can take me home and... leave."
"Alright," He said as he motioned for me to get back to the car. I walked back and he followed me. I just wanted to get out of this horrible place and the only way I can do that is for him to drive me home. I settled at the front seat of his car and waited for him. He already knew where I was but he didn't dare talk to me which was a good thing since I didn't really want to talk to him.
"Seatbelt please," He said when he started the car.
I put on my seatbelt and looked out of the car. I heard him sighed before he drove out of there.
"Are you sure you don't want to drop by the hospital? We could get some painkillers for your bruises." He said when we were already on the road.
"No, I'm fine," I said.
"Alright, if that's what you want," He said.
I looked outside the window and saw a resto. Now I remembered I was hungry. I wanted to have a meal at the mall but I was afraid that someone would recognize me so I decided to go home and asked Vera to cook for me instead but something unfortunate happened. I can't tell Wade that I am starving, he'll just ask me to have dinner and he'll find a way to spend more time with me.
