Chapter 69: Chapter 69
Mia, who had arranged her bags and prepared to leave the Diamond Shadow pack back to the Crystal Moon pack, strode down the staircase and saw her father sitting and reading a book She said her goodbyes and left the house.
Feeling light, she made her way back to the Crystal Moon pack. Her heart was heavy, and her shoulders sagged because she was going back home empty-handed. She wasn't able to get any useful information to help keep the demon from being awakened.
Immediately, she got to the Crystal Moon pack, and her stomach tied itself into knots, leaving her with an uneasy feeling. The palace seemed to be out of place because guards could be seen running around with worry looks on their faces. Mia knitted her brows into a frown and stopped a guard who was heading to the pack's hospital.
"What's happening? Why is every guard running around?" Mia asked, glancing around.
"The spy is convulsing because she drank poison," the guard replied.
Mia was confused, but before she could ask for a better explanation, the guard took off, heading to the pack's hospital.
Mia got inside the house and asked after Alex. She was told by a maid that the last time he was seen in the pack house was when he was talking with his father.
Then the maid added, "After that, he headed to his room and hasn't been out since then."
Mia nodded, dismissing the maid with a wave.
Mia went into her room, took a shower and sat down on the couch, resting and also lost in thoughts. She hoisted herself out of the couch after her heart yearned for Alex. She wanted to see his face.
Opening her door, she walked through the hallway leading to Alex's room.
Mia’s heart raced as she saw the dark smoke billowing out of Alex’s room. She rushed to his door, leaning against it. She could hear strange chantings coming from inside. Slowly, she pushed the door open and peered inside. What she saw made her gasp in shock.
Hendrix, the man who had been causing her so much confusion and worry, was bowing before her husband. Alex, her husband, was standing there with a look of pure rage in his eyes. It was as if he was possessed by something dark and evil.
Hendrix glanced over his shoulder, creasing his forehead into a frown.
"Mia, what are you doing here?" Hendrix snapped at her, his voice sharp with irritation.
Mia gulped, unable to conjure an answer. She stood there, staring at her husband and Hendrix, trying to make sense of what she was seeing.
Suddenly, Alex turned to face her. His eyes were different, filled with a cold and malevolent gleam that sent shivers down her spine.
"Mia," he growled, his voice low and menacing. "What are you doing here?"
Mia could feel her heart racing as she took a step back. She had never seen her husband like that before. He looked like a completely different person.
"Alex, what's going on?" she asked, her voice shaking.
But before he could answer, Hendrix rose and willed his legs to her, his eyes flashing with anger.
"You need to leave, Mia," he said, his voice cold and hard. "This is none of your business."
But Mia wasn't about to leave. She was determined to find out what was happening to Alex.
"Alex, please," she pleaded. "What's going on? You're scaring me."
Alex didn't give a response. His eyes burnt with a fierce intensity. It was as if he was possessed by something beyond his control.
Suddenly, a bolt of energy shot out from Alex's body, hitting the wall behind her with a loud bang. Mia stumbled back, her heart racing with fear.
"Get out!" Alex bellowed, his voice echoing through the room.
Mia knew she had no choice but to leave. As she backed away, she caught a glimpse of Hendrix's face. He was smiling. He was happy about what was happening to Alex.
Mia's heart was racing because she didn't understand why Hendrix would be bowing before Alex in such an abnormal state. Alex' eyes were pitch black, and a dark smoke emanated from his body. She called out his name again.
"Alex? What’s going on?” she asked, her eyes darting between him and Hendrix.
But he didn't seem to hear her now. Instead, he just stared at her with a cold, empty gaze.
Mia ran out of the room, her heart pounding in her chest. That wasn’t her, Alex. Something had taken over him, and she didn’t know how to stop it.
She had to find out what was going on with Alex and fast. She couldn't let him be consumed by whatever dark force had taken a hold of him.
Immediately, she ran out of Alex's room and met a guard who was coming to report the incident of the spy to Alex.
"Good day, Luna," the guard greeted
Mia immediately calmed herself down and decided to take control of situations.
She wouldn't allow any other person to see her husband that way. What if word goy out that he was possessed? Everything he had worked hard for would be lost.
"Good day, and why are you here?" Mia asked the guard, who she noticed was trying to look at the smoke emitting from the door she came out from.
With the intention of not wanting him to see anything, Mia raised her voice, demanding answers.
"Thought I asked a question?" Mia pushed her brows up. "Why are you here?"
"Sorry, Luna, the pack warrior's leader, Caine, and the pack healer said I should inform Alpha Alex about the spy. I was asked to explain in detail what had happened to the spy since I was one of the guards present," the guard explained.
"Ohhh, where is Caine and the pack healer now?"
"They are still trying to get help and find an antidote for the spy. She is out of harm now because the pack healer subdued the poison, but she still convulsing, and according to him she can't hold much longer if the antidote is not found early, and they need the Alpha's permission to involve other persons," The guard told Mia the main reason he was sent down to the Alpha.
Understanding the situation, Mia gave them the go-ahead.
"The Alpha is in quite a mood and does not want any disturbances as he is meditating. You know how cranky he gets when he is being disturbed, right?" Mia asked, and the guard nodded. "Right. So, instruct two guards to watch this hallway to ensure no one comes close to his room."
