Chapter 70: Chapter 70

The moment the guard left, she turned on her heels and headed back to Alex' room. Alex was her husband, and she had every right to stay and ask questions on what was wrong with him.

She pressed her lips together into a firm line of determination.

"And I would not leave until I get a sensible explanation from the both of them," she muttered to herself, pulling up short in front of his door.

Her stomach clenched, and her heart picked up its pace. Though she was having a funny feeling about her idea, she wasn't going to give in to fear.

She took in a deep breath and pushed the door open, inviting herself into his room.

Hendrix gazed over his shoulder, and lines of disapproval creased his forehead as he narrowed his eyes at her.

"This is none of your concern," Hendrix growled, standing up and facing her with a fierce expression. "Leave us now."

Mia shook her head, refusing to back down. "You can not dismiss me like that. I am not leaving until I know what is going on with Alex," she said firmly.

Hendrix took a step forward, his eyes flashing with anger. "You are meddling with affairs that you have no business in," he snarled.

Mia didn't back down. "I just want to help, Alex is my husband. His affairs are the same as mine," she said. "Let me try to snap Alex out of it."

Hendrix sneered. "Fine, but do not say I did not warn you," he said, stepping aside, giving her the chance to approach Alex.

Mia cautiously walked towards Alex, who was now sitting on the bed and staring at the shattered mirror stand with an intense and almost hostile gaze. She tried to speak to him, but he didn't seem to be paying attention to her.

"Alex, it's me, Mia," she said softly as she approached him from behind. "Please, can you come back to yourself? What is happening to you?"

But her words fell into deaf ears. Mia called him again to get his attention. She swallowed hard.

"Alex, can you hear me? Can you see me?" taking slow and careful strides to him.

Alex lunged at her, his eyes turning completely black. Mia's heart skipped a beat, caging itself in fear as she tried to dodge his attack, but he was too quick. He shoved her with his arms, and she stumbled backwards, hitting her head against the corner of the dresser.

The pain wasn't severe, but it was there. She raised her head to look at Alex, who was now standing with his back turned against her.

"Al-" Mia didn't get to finish her sentence because Alex charged at her.

Mia recoiled in pain as Alex's hand connected with her cheek. She stumbled back, her hand instinctively going up to cradle the spot where she had hit her head. She looked at him in shock, her eyes wide and teary.

"Why?" she whispered. "Why did you do that?"

Alex clenched his jaw, his chest heaving with anger. "I told you to leave me alone," he growled. "I do not need your help, Mia. I do not need anyone's help."

Mia shook her head, tears pricking at the corners of her eyes. "That's not true," she said softly. "You're hurting, Alex. You need help, whether you want to admit it or not."

"I do not need your help!" Alex roared, taking a step towards her. "I do not need anyone's help!"

She looked up only to find him coming closer; she moved backwards, afraid he'll hit her. Looking at the situation, pain pricked at her heart. She and Alex weren't that close, but she was never afraid of him. Now she was afraid of him coming closer.

Mia took a deep breath and tried to calm herself down. She knew that Alex was not himself when he was possessed by the demon. She had never seen him like this before, but she knew that this was a battle he could not win alone. She had to help him, no matter the cost.

Mia backed away, her heart pounding in her chest. She knew she needed to leave, to get away from him before he hurt her again. But she couldn't bring herself to leave him like this again, in the grip of whatever dark force was possessing him.

"Please, Alex," she pleaded. "Let me help you. I can not just stand here and watch you suffer."

Alex's face twisted with rage, and he lunged at her. Mia tried to move out of the way, but he was too quick. His hand connected with her shoulder, and she stumbled backwards, her head hitting the wall with a sickening thud.

Pain shot through her head as she fell to the ground. Her vision became blurry as she gasped, trembling.

Mia crumpled to the ground, her vision swimming. She could feel blood trickling down the back of her head, and she knew she needed medical attention. But even as she struggled to stay conscious, she couldn't help but think about Alex.

Mia felt a surge of fear as she realised the gravity of the situation. "What  can I do?" she asked, her voice trembling.

What had happened to him? What had made him so angry and violent? And how could she help him before it was too late?

Mia winced in pain as the injury on her head was giving her a banging headache. She could also feel pain in her arms.

She looked at the injury on her arm, and she tried to move her left arm to look at it. It was a slight cut from a broken piece of mirror.

The injury was not severe, but it was enough to make her feel a sharp pain every time she moved it.

She clutched her bleeding arm with the little strength she had left. She couldn't believe what had just happened. Alex, her husband, had turned into a monster before her very eyes, and in the process, he had injured her.

Her body shook as she mustered the courage to glance up at Alex. Her heart thrummed in her chest when she met his intense orbs peering into her soul. Her stomach churned, and her vision blurred as she struggled to focus her gaze on him.

Her head dropped to the floor, and the last thing she saw were hid shoes, approaching her.
