Chapter 65: Chapter 65
The spy was taken aback by her kindness. She couldn't understand why Mia would care about her. After all, she was an enemy spy who had been captured by the pack. Even if she was connected and working for her father, Mia didn't know, and all she cared about now was her husband and his pack.
"I am fine," the spy replied, trying to hide her confusion by pressing her lips into a thin line.
Mia nodded, sensing that something was off. She looked at the spy with concern, trying to read her expression. "Is everything okay?" she asked.
"What do you mean?" The spy replied with a question, creasing her brows into a deep frown.
Mia immediately knew the spy wasn't in a very good mood and decided to stay quiet.
Mia sat on a chair for a while, peering at the woman whose bright skin was now pale. Mia tried to coax her into revealing what was wrong, but it was all to no avail.
Mia clenched her jaw, and they sat in silence until she decided to try again.
Mia looked into the cell again and asked the spy, "Are you sure you're ok? You look really troubled about something."
"Are you really here for this, or do you just want to get answers for your Alpha?" The spy said, wrinkling her nose in disgust.
"I'm interested in anything you have to say, I came here for answers, but your mood was something else, so I'll ask again. Are you sure you're okay?" Mia inquired, sounding a bit more strict than intended.
The spy blinked once, then twice, sealing her lips as she stared dumbfoubdedly at Mia.
Mia tried to reason with her, telling her that if her life was in danger that she needed to speak up for them to be able to help her, but the spy remained silent and even hostile.
"Okay, but can you at least tell me what your name is?" Mia arched her brows, tossing a pleading gaze at the spy.
Mia didn't get a response except for the sound of a dripping water coming from the spy's cell.
Mia went ahead and continued talking to her even without getting answers
"You told me something about looking for the person within. I didn't really understand what you meant by that, so can you explain to me?" Mia gave the spy a sweet smile, hoping it would work on her. "Just enlighten me about what it means, and I will stop coming to your cell to ask you questions."
"You might think I'm foolish or something, but whatever you want, I do not have solutions to it. Just leave me alone. I'm busy with my thoughts," the spy snapped, turning her back against Mia and staring at the dripping water.
Mia knew there was something more to the situation, and she was determined to get to the bottom of it.
As she left the dungeon, she made her way to Hendrix's office. She needed to ask him some questions to see if he knew anything that could shed light on the situation. At least she saw him talking with the spy and she wasn't hostile towards him, maybe she liked him and said something to him or would say something to him.
Getting to the hallway, Mia remembered the way Hendrix went into the dungeon and how he came out. He had been throwing furtive glances over his shoulder, checking to see if anyone was looking at him, meaning there was more to it.
"I have to be very careful," she muttered to herself, feeling her stomach clench.
She couldn't find Hendrix anywhere within the pack house, so she went out to search if he was at the training ground.
She found Hendrix in the training grounds, sparring with some pack members. She approached him, and he stopped his training, driving his sword into the ground when he noticed her presence.
Walking towards her, he furrowed his brows in concern because Mia had never appeared on the training ground for any reason.
"Mia, what brings you here?" He asked.
"I need to talk to you about the spy," Mia replied, her voice laced with urgency.
Hendrix's expression changed, becoming guarded. "What about her?"
"I know she hasn't said anything. The leader of the pack's warriors reported to me, and we're still trying other methods to make her speak out," Hendrix said, laughing.
Mia focused her gaze on his face, trying to search if he was playing stupid with her. When she remembered she had to be careful with him,she leaned in, lowering her voice. "I spoke to her, and she wouldn't say anything about her connection to the diamond shadow pack. But I know you have a good relationship with her. You were sneaking around the dungeons, and I saw you talking to her."
"What are you talking about, Mia?"
Hendrix's eyes narrowed. "I know nothing of what you're talking about," he said coldly.
Mia's frustration grew as Hendrix refused to provide any useful information. She knew he was hiding something, but she couldn't figure out what it was.
She decided to leave the training ground, but as she turned to go, Hendrix called out to her, causing her to glance over her shoulder.
Hendrix took a deep breath before speaking, "I know you're trying to get information out of the spy, but you need to be careful. She iz dangerous she might look calm, but we don't know what she's capable of doing. Limit your visits to her cell. For your own safety. Do not risk your life trying to figure out her connection to the Diamond Shadow pack, okay?"
Mia nodded, willing her legs back into the pack house.
As they parted ways, she couldn't shake off the feeling that something was off about Hendrix and the spy. Mia knew that this was just the beginning of a long and difficult journey. She didn't believe him. She knew that Hendrix was lying, but she didn't know how to prove it. She knew there was more to the story than what she had been told.
