Chapter 64: Chapter 64
The spy sat there in silence, lost in her thoughts. When she heard footsteps approaching her cell, her heart raced with fear, and she wondered if this was the end.
The door to her cell opened, and in walked Hendrix. The spy tensed up, unsure of what to expect. Hendrix didn't say anything at first but just stood there, staring at her with an intense gaze.
Finally, he spoke, "I know this is a tough situation, but you have to be strong. We'll figure out a way to keep you safe, but first, I need to know that you're with us," he said, his voice low and serious.
The spy hesitated for a moment but then made her decision. She couldn't risk her sibling's life. "I am," she said, her voice barely above a whisper.
Hendrix nodded, seeming satisfied. "Good," he said. "Then I have a job for you. If you can keep quiet and tell no one about your connection with Diamond Shadow pack, then you and your brother will be safe. But if you speak, I can not guarantee his safety."
The spy listened as Hendrix laid out his plan. It was dangerous, but she knew that she had no choice. If she wanted to protect her sibling, she had to go along with it.
If she stayed long without telling Alpha Alex about her connection to the Diamond Shadow pack, Alpha Alex wouldn't think twice in asking his guards to kill her. The thought made her heart ache with sadness and fear.
As Hendrix left, the spy was left alone once again. She sat on the hard floor with her mind racing as she thought back to the conversation she had with Hendrix. Her throat ran dry, and beads of sweat gathered on her forehead.
"Listen," Hendrix had said, his voice low and urgent. "I know you're scared, but you need to keep your mouth shut about your connection to the Diamond Shadow pack. If you tell anyone, I can't promise that your sibling will be safe."
"It'll be better you kill yourself than tell anyone your connection to the pack, I know you're smart and won't make a senseless move of seeking help from Alpha Alex," His last words lingered in her head.
She knew Hendrix was telling the truth. She didn't want to put her sibling in danger, but she also didn't want to die.
She couldn't believe what she was hearing. Her heart ached at the thought of losing her sibling, the only family she had left. She couldn't let that happen, but at the same time, she couldn't bring herself to take her own life.
As she sat there, memories flooded her mind. She remembered how she had been recruited into the pack, promising to be their eyes and ears within the enemy camp just so they'd accept her brother and herself sparing them from being killed by hunger.
She had done her job well, reporting back on every move made by the Alpha's pack. But now, she realized that it had all been a mistake. She had never meant to hurt anyone, and now her actions had put her only family in danger.
Her stomach clenched and unclenched. She knew that she had to do something, but she didn't know what. She had already refused to talk to Mia, but how could she convince Hendrix that she was loyal to the Diamond Shadow pack?
She tried to think of a way out, but her mind was clouded with fear and uncertainty. She didn't know who to trust, and she felt like she was running out of options.
The door to her cell creaked open, and Hendrix walked in with a grim expression on his face, and the spy knew that this was not going to be good news.
Getting to her, he out stretched his hand. Looking into it, there was a small bottle in his palm.
"Come here," he ordered. "Take this."
Trembling, she rose and walked to him, collecting the bottle from him.
"That's poison, not up to me, but that's the orders," Hendrix said to her, throwing a glance over his shoulder and returning it to her pale face.
"You know you can't continue staying quiet because the interrogative methods they'll be using next will be hard for you to resist. You'd spill the beans, and everyone will be exposed. We can't risk that," Hendrix stated.
Looking directly into Hendrix eyes, she already knew his next words, and she dreaded them. She prayed in her heart to be wrong about what he'd ask of her.
"Drink the poison," He said, unmoved.
Her breath hitched, and her stomach dropped.
"Do not worry about your brother. He will be well taken care of. If the pressure is too much on you and you know you'll tell them about your ties with the Diamond Shadow pack, drink the poison," Hendrix urged.
Looking at the little bottle containing the poison now in her hands, she knew she was done for and had no other hope. She'd lay down her life for her brother.
She held the bottle and walked back into the dark part of the cell. Hendrix had already left her with no other choice.
Once again, she lowered herself to the floor and got lost in her thoughts. Tears streamed down her cheeks.
Her thoughts were interrupted by the sound of footsteps outside her cell. She quickly wiped away her tears and composed herself. She knew she heard the sound of footsteps approaching her cell. Her heart raced as she wondered who it could be.
Was it Hendrix? Was he coming to check on her and make sure she had used the poison?
The door to her cell opened, and she looked up to see Mia standing there.
The spy creased her brows, wondering what it was that she wanted.
Was she coming back to ask more questions about her relationship with the Diamond Shadow pack? After all, that was what everyone came to her cell to ask.
Mia approached her with a gentle smile on her face, saying, "I'm sorry to disturb you, but I just wanted to check on you and see how you're doing."
