Chapter 82: Chapter 82
Without hesitation, Lana shook her head toward Lucian. Her defiance was clear in her eyes. Google seaʀᴄh n̷o̷v̷e̷l̷f̷i̷r̷e̷.net
Lucian paused, and now the theory in his mind was confirmed... the silver kitten was mostly like some perverted old aunt.
Suddenly, he was reminded of the young girl with a black wig and black lenses...
Narrowing his eyes, Lucian stated, "You can leave; no need for injection."
"Eh? But..." The vet began; however, Lucian’s stare was enough to stop him, and he could only sigh. What to do? He couldn’t offend this big boss of his!
With that thought, the vet left.
Lana heaved a sigh of relief and stared at Lucian with approval in her eyes. Her white moonlight was still the smartest.
"Get me a healing talisman," Lucian ordered Hector.
Hector didn’t hesitate and rushed to fulfill Lucian’s order.
Once alone, Lucian observed Lana before giving her a gentle smile. "You know, recently I have taken a girl under my wing."
Lana’s heart skipped a beat; however, she tried her best to feign calmness.
"Whenever her eyes clash with mine, the sparkle in her eyes reminds me of you." Lucian’s words sounded teasing and lighthearted; however, Lana could make out a slight hint of probing in his tone.
’Absolutely can’t let him know about my true identity!’ Lana murmured in her heart.
If she had only helped Lucian to catch spies and build his wealth, she would have dropped hints about her true identity.
But what had she done? She had acted like a lustful, perverted cat.
If he ever knew about her true identity, social death would become a small matter!
However, at the same time, a plan brewed in her mind.
Wasn’t this a good opportunity to investigate the mysteries from her previous life?
Her expression slowly morphed into fury, and she used her weakened legs to march toward the laptop.
Lucian watched her with interest and then saw how the pads of Lana’s paws furiously typed on the laptops.
Soon, she turned and motioned him to look at the screen.
When Lucian read the line on the screen, he almost laughed.
The line was, "We had agreed that you won’t get close to any women, so why have you taken her in? Throw her out!"
"Such a little life, but so clear with her territory." Lucian commented, "No, I can’t throw her out."
"Why?" Lana typed out; her typing speed was radiating her fury.
"Because..." Lucian drawled, "...she needs to be protected and cherished."
Lana was dumbfounded by Lucian’s response.
This... this... was a half confession?
Does Lucian have feelings for her? So why did he reject her in her past life?
Unwilling to give up, Lana typed on the screen with her heart pounding, "Do you love her? Who is she to you?"
Lucian’s gaze lingered on the screen for a long moment before a low, amused chuckle escaped his lips.
He turned his eyes toward the small silver kitten glaring up at him, her fur puffed like a tiny storm cloud.
"Who is she to me?" he repeated slowly, voice dripping with lazy amusement. "Why does that matter to you, little one?"
Lana froze. Her paws trembled slightly, but she typed again, "It matters because you’re mine!"
Lucian leaned back in his chair, that dangerous smirk she once both loved and hated curving his lips.
"Possessive now, are we?" he teased softly. "Do you even know what you’re claiming, little kitten?"
"Meow!" Lana turned her head away stubbornly, pretending not to understand, but the red tint creeping into her furry ears betrayed her.
Lucian’s eyes softened, just slightly.
"One... because I see something in her that reminds me of myself."
Lana tilted her head, staring at him with her deep blue eyes.
"Stubborn to the core, intelligent and talented to the point that even heaven might get jealous, and witty and cheerful to the point that everyone gets attracted to her," Lucian whispered; his blue eyes seemed to recall something, a slow smile forming on his lips.
"However... just like me... it’s a mask she wears." His voice shone with an unspoken confidence, "Afraid to let anyone near her, having thorns, and fearing deep attachment. She wants to belong somewhere, but the constant betrayal made her cower."
Lana’s pupil dilated, and she almost had the urge to run away.
"Her love for material stuff..." Lucian’s lazy voice made Lana panic, because she could feel something growing inside...something that she feared deeply. "... stems from the fact that mere emotions or words can’t give her the guarantee."
Lana lowered her head and refused to look at Lucian.
She couldn’t... her heart wouldn’t allow it.
’No! Lana! Wake up! Don’t fall in love with him! You can’t! Remember that night!’ She reminded herself as her heart was beating rapidly like the hooves of a horse.
"You know what surprises me? She hates physical touch and avoids it so skillfully that no one can even detect it." Lucian murmured in slight amazement.
"And while I checked her records, I found something that made me pity her."
A wave of coldness washed over Lana. All the excitement she was feeling seemed to have vanished by just one sentence.
’I wish I could return to his mansion.’ Lana thought sincerely in her heart. She didn’t wish to hear his words anymore.
Hector returned with the healing talisman and passed it to Lucian.
Lucian softly stuck the talisman on Lana’s fur, and the next second, a golden light emerged from the talisman and seeped into Lana’s body.
Lana blinked as the warmth spread through her small body.
The dull ache in her limbs eased, her breathing steadied, and for the first time since falling through Lucian’s ceiling, she didn’t feel like she was about to melt into a puddle of exhaustion.
Lucian withdrew his hand, his long fingers brushing against the soft silver fur on her back. The golden glow reflected in his deep blue eyes as he whispered, "Better?"
