Chapter 81: Chapter 81

Some of the female employees felt a burst of excitement in their hearts. They knew about other female employees who constantly used tricks like producing a rose out of nowhere to attract the attention of their devil boss.

These women often presented themselves as the innocent white lotus, trying their level best to garner their boss’s attention.

Even though in the end they never succeeded, others still felt stifled in their heart. What gives those white lotuses the right to flirt with their boss in public?

But their boss was fair too; he always found the one responsible for the roses incident and dealt with them ruthlessly.

Though this cat trick was kind of new, all the female employees with a crush on Lucian eagerly awaited the cat’s end.

Lucian, ignoring the gossipy eyes of his employee, elegantly picked up the little silver kitten from his head. A rare hint of tenderness was visible on his face as he carefully placed the furry silver ball in his hand.

As he walked out of the conference room, the employees started to gossip.

"What do you think the boss will do with that kitten?"

"Honestly, from what I know... the kitten might end up getting stewed."

"Ew! How gross! Though our boss is merciless, I don’t think he will go to that extent."

"That’s because you haven’t witnessed his anger!"

"Anger? He didn’t look angry at all! From my inference... he even seemed attentive!"

Lucian entered his office with the silver furball in his hand and sighed helplessly.

He placed the silver kitten gently on his desk. The creature’s fur shimmered faintly under the golden office light, her breathing shallow but steady.

His brows furrowed as he touched her small forehead; she was indeed running a fever.

Moments later, Hector entered, panting slightly from having rushed upstairs.

"Boss, the vet’s on the way. Should I prepare anything else?"

Lucian shook his head, still gazing at the kitten. "Just bring a towel and a bowl of warm water."

Hector obeyed immediately.

For a man known throughout the business world as ruthless and unfeeling, Lucian’s current expression was foreign even to himself, patient, gentle, and oddly protective.

He dampened the towel and softly patted the kitten’s fur, muttering under his breath,

"What are you even doing here, little troublemaker? Falling from the ceiling during a board meeting?"

The kitten weakly opened her eyes, two sapphire irises glimmering faintly like moonlight. A faint "meow" escaped her, almost as if she was trying to say something.

Lucian froze for a second. "...You’re conscious?"

The silver kitten blinked before pushing away Lucian’s paw from her ears.

Lana was hardly able to make out her surroundings; however, the familiar fragrance of sandalwood calmed her tense nerves.

Yet when the familiar warm touch held her ears, a jolt of electricity passed over, making her freeze.

It was a strange feeling... as if... as if someone was biting her ears!

Due to Lana’s furs, her reddened cheeks were visible to Lucian; otherwise, he would have realized that the silver kitten was too human-like!

"You don’t like me touching your ears, huh?" Lucian’s lazy yet teasing voice cleared up Lana’s foggy mind a bit before she nodded with dull movement.

"Why are you running a fever? Don’t you know how to take care of yourself?" Lucian asked as his index finger caressed Lana’s forehead.

"Meow! Meow!" Lana protested as she pushed away Lucian’s hand.

Was he planning to turn her bald? Though she liked her white moonlight and was secretly delighted that he cared for her and even touched her so lovingly... messing with her hair was a strict ’no,’ ’no’!

Lucian arched a brow, amused by the tiny creature’s defiance. "So you do have an attitude," he murmured, his lips curving ever so slightly. "Quite bold for something that fits in my palm."

The kitten, or rather, Lana, flicked her tail and glared at him, puffing up her fur in protest. "Meow!"

Lucian chuckled lowly, his voice rich and velvety, like dark coffee. "Ah, you’re scolding me now? Should I apologize to Miss Kitten for offending her pride?"

If Lana could speak in her human form, she would have snapped that his teasing tone was infuriating. But right now, she could only watch helplessly as he wrapped her up in the towel like a fragile treasure.

His movements were unhurried, careful, and almost reverent. New ɴᴏᴠᴇʟ ᴄhapters are published on novel※fire.net

"Don’t wriggle," he said softly, placing her on the couch near his desk. "You’ll only make your fever worse."

Lana blinked up at him, her sapphire eyes shimmering. For a moment, she forgot her irritation.

The way his deep eyes softened while looking at her almost made her heart flutter.

Lucian leaned closer, his scent, sandalwood mixed with faint mint, enveloping her. "You’re trembling," he murmured, brushing a stray strand of fur from her face. "Are you cold?"

Lana nodded. Though she didn’t know what Lucian was saying due to the strange buzzing in her ears, she just nodded to whatever he said.

Ah! This was another day of her admiring her crush while secretly pining for him!

Lucian slipped off his black suit jacket and placed it gently over her tiny form.

The faint warmth of his body lingered in the fabric, and Lana couldn’t stop herself from curling deeper into it.

Lucian watched her settle in, a strange sense of calm washing over him.

Normally, he despised distractions, yet this little silver creature had just barged into his meeting and, somehow, into his peace.

When the vet arrived a few minutes later, Lucian stopped talking.

Anyone would think of him as a lunatic if he talked to an animal with no awakened wisdom.

After a brief examination, the vet said softly, "It must be a viral fever. I will inject it with an injection and prescribe some medicine."

Lana bristled at the sight of the vet; she wasn’t an animal! She was a human!

God knows what kind of side effect she might need to endure if she lets this doctor succeed in his evil plan.
