Chapter 80: Chapter 80
Mr. Crow nearly choked on air. What kind of twisted imagination is this human running on?!
He flapped his wings furiously, trying to signal her to stop spouting nonsense, but Lucy took his agitation as confirmation of her own wild thoughts.
"I knew it! I knew there was something odd about you!" she cried, her eyes widening in panic. "Miss Lana treated you like family, and now, you’ve turned on her!"
Mr. Crow’s feathers stood on end. "CAW!" he screeched in disbelief.
To Lucy, that "caw" only sounded like a villainous confession.
"Oh, heaven above!" she shrieked, staggering back a step and nearly dropping the dinner tray. "Where is she? Did you lock her up? Is she..."
"CAW! CAW!" Mr. Crow hopped forward, wings spread wide, as if to block her from moving any further into the room.
To him, it was an attempt to protect Lana’s secret.
To Lucy, it looked like the final warning of a murderer caught red-handed.
Her trembling hand reached toward her pocket. "I...I’ll call the guards!"
Mr. Crow froze, realization dawning that if guards came, they’d find the kitten, the clothes, and an agitated crow. The explanation would sound like the opening of a supernatural horror tale.
He had to stop her without scaring her senseless.
With remarkable control, he fluttered upward, then landed gracefully on the tray in her hands. His sudden weight made the utensils clatter, and Lucy froze. Tʜe sourcᴇ of thɪs content ɪs NoveIFire.net
The crow tilted his head, then gently nudged the glass of water toward her with his beak...his attempt at a peace offering.
Lucy blinked. Once. Twice. "...You’re offering me water?" she whispered in disbelief.
Mr. Crow gave a small nod.
Her lips parted slightly, caught between fear and curiosity. "You... understand me?"
He nodded again, this time slower, as if to reassure her.
Lucy’s panic ebbed, replaced by a hesitant fascination. "So... you didn’t hurt Miss Lana?"
Mr. Crow shook his head firmly.
That question hit him like a stone. His wings stiffened. He didn’t dare gesture toward the bed.
Lucy frowned. "You’re hiding something," she muttered, glancing around.
Mr. Crow mentally cursed. This woman’s too sharp for her own good!
When she began walking toward the bed, he darted forward and landed right in front of her pillow fortress, blocking the view of the tiny silver kitten behind it.
"Caw!" he shouted, spreading his wings dramatically.
Lucy froze again, heart pounding. "O-Okay! I get it! I won’t touch your... your area!" she stammered, slowly backing away.
Seeing her finally retreat, Mr. Crow let out a long sigh of relief. He gently nudged the door with his beak, hinting she should leave.
Lucy, shaken but curious, took a deep breath.
"Oh? So Miss Lana is outside?"
Mr. Crow was dumbfounded when Lucy misunderstood; however, thinking this was his chance, he immediately nodded.
Lucy swept her gaze around, and when she was sure that there was no one other than Mr. Crow, she left.
Though suspicious, she can only wait temporarily. However, the unease in her heart continued to rise, hence Lucy informed everything to Hector.
Hector suggested that they should wait for a night.
"But what if that crow has truly done something to Miss Lana?" Lucy asked in a worried voice.
"Lucy." Hector interrupted her, "Miss Lana and that crow have a deep bond. You may not realize this, but Miss Lana deeply loves that crow. This love stems from deep trust. So believe in Miss Lana and stop doubting that Crow. Am I clear?"
Lucy could only nod. However, in her heart, she thought, ’Betrayal comes from the loved ones... Hector is truly clueless.’
Mr. Crow heaved a sigh of relief, though he was a bit uncomfortable by the stare the maid had given him.
’Hmph! How shallow! Unlike my Lana! Lana didn’t disdain me and always saw me as her equal! I will complain to Lana once she wakes up!’
With that thought, he turned and was surprised to find the spot empty!
"Lana? Lana? Where are you?" Mr. Crow’s voice was laced with panic, and he frantically searched for Lana.
When even after an hour, he couldn’t find her... Mr. Crow slumped on the bed and remembered how Lana always teleported somewhere once she turned into a kitten.
"I hope she is safe." He murmured with slight sorrow.
In a conference room.
The conference room was large and bright, with smooth white walls and glass panels that made it look open and modern.
A long wooden table stood in the center, surrounded by soft beige chairs neatly arranged on both sides.
The ceiling lights glowed gently, giving the room a calm but serious atmosphere.
At the end of the room, a big screen was ready for meetings, and everything looked clean, organized, and professional, like a place where important decisions were made.
Lucian was seated at the head table; his commanding presence created a suffocating aura in the conference room, making the attendees shiver like a quail.
This seemingly gentle and handsome boss of theirs was a dream lover of many; however, when it comes to scolding, his biting words could even make a man cry!
Though Lucian had maintained a gentle smile on his face, the head presenter only felt his heart trembling.
The boss was furious!
Otherwise, he wouldn’t be smiling !
’Heavens above, please pity me and save me! I will $20,000 to charity!’ He thought in his heart and saw his boss opening his mouth.
Bracing himself for the scolding and biting words, the man clenched his fist, only to see...
With a ’pfft’, a silver fury ball landed on Lucian’s head.

"Who brought this stray kitten? Boss, I will deal with this one!" The head presenter was eager to appease Lucian.
Just as he lifted his hand to use his psychic power, Lucian’s thunderous voice echoed in the conference room.
"No need. Meeting adjourned."
His words stunned all the employees.
What was happening? Was their boss going to murder the kitten?
