Chapter 54: Chapter 54
’The good thing is I am rich. But the bad thing? Wade is too...’ Richard sighed in his heart, and sure enough, the next second, he heard Wade say in a sweet voice.
"Lana, do you want to go for a ride?" There was a subtle note of flirtation in Wade’s deep voice.
Lana’s lips curved into a faint smile, and she shook her head. "No thanks, I need to study and catch up with my studies."
A glint flashed in Fay’s eyes, and she exchanged a look with Layla.
Layla glanced back with a smirk. Both of them made a silent bet while Betty rolled her eyes.
"Oh? But I happen to be an academic rank holder; why don’t I teach you?"
Before Lana could retort, Betty interrupted with an irritated expression.
"Wade, congratulations on your impressive 4th place. I’m in 3rd, Layla’s basking in 2nd, and let’s not forget our shining star Skylar, who’s comfortably sitting at 1st. Did you forget to check the bulletin?"
Lana arched an eyebrow in interest.
She had never seen Skylar. Neither in her previous life nor in this one. However, she had indeed seen him a few times with Lucian.
However, even then... she had only gotten his side view.
’Who cares? I just want to be rich enough to live a blissful life and let no one bully me!’
After all, once she becomes a city lord, she could easily transfer Lucian to her city, and then...
Thinking about his abs and biceps, Lana felt heat pooling in her lower abdomen.
Mr. Crow stared at Lana in disgust and flew high in the air. His action attracted everyone’s attention, and Fay asked with bright eyes,
"Hey, Lana, who is this crow?"
"My contract beast," Lana said with a stiff silence, and in an instant, everyone fell silent.
They were mystic cultivators, and they knew about the mystic beasts they could catch in secret realms; some even possessed superpowers! And some rare ones can even cultivate.
However, a mystic cultivator could only contract one beast in their entire lifetime. So Lana’s decision to contract an ordinary crow... seemed a bit off.
"Sorry to inform you, Lana, but this crow... seems ordinary. Should you reconsider?" Layla asked gently.
"Hm... you know you could find better in the secret realm. Some possess intelligence and cultivator power too!" Wade suggested in a forced, cheerful voice.
"Some even will help you to find cultivation resources, while some just help you cultivate faster!" Richard chimed in.
Mr. Crow, who was flying above, stiffened. All the disdain from his face was flushed out, and anxiety pulsed under his skin.
"Lana... my family has a method to break off the contract." Betty began in a soft yet apologetic voice.
’Don’t you dare break off the contract! I am warning you, Lana...’ Mr. Crow’s heart reached till his throat as he began, but Lana’s calm voice echoed first.
"No need." She said with a bright smile, "He has accompanied me and taught me many things. I can’t and I won’t break off the contract."
Though she looked gentle and obedient on the surface, the certainty in her words, coupled with a silly smile, explained everything.
The atmosphere turned still. ᴜᴘᴅᴀᴛᴇ ꜰʀᴏᴍ novel(ꜰ)ire.net
"Also, I appreciate your thought for trying to help me, but..." Lana paused before her features softened. "Please don’t ever try to demean him. He is best the way he is."
Mr. Crow was so stunned that for a moment, he almost stopped flapping. But just before he could crash onto Lana, he flapped his wings again and started to hover above her before calmly landing on her shoulder and clamping her shoulder tightly.
He was truly touched...
Before anyone could react, Lana began.
"To repay your thoughtful gestures... How about I make cookies for everyone?"
The cold atmosphere cracked, and for the first time, they understood that the seemingly sweet junior they had gotten was... a smart one.
She used the carrot and stick approach.
However, at the same time, she made sure to tell them that she appreciates them.
"Sure." Richard was the first one to agree.
"I agree!" Others nodded simultaneously.
After chatting casually, they all left for home. Since it was the first day, the main focus was on the registration and overview.
On the way, Lana took the public transportation and returned to the temple.
In a cheerful mood, she opened the university website and logged in with her details.
"Why did you decline?" Mr. Crow opened his mouth; his beady eyes flashed with a glint.
"Because you are as crazy as I am," Lana murmured, her attention on the university website.
"Eh? You are lying!" Mr. Crow could read the pulse and said with confidence.
"Well..." Lana drawled as she stared at Mr. Crow, "I secretly hope that one day you transform into a phoenix and let me ride you."
"Haha! Mr. Crow, let me focus. I have to watch out for my survival; otherwise, you and I will have to beg on the street." Lana laughed; her inner thoughts remained completely unknown to Mr. Crow.
He pursed his beak and didn’t say anything.
Lana focused on the university website. After checking her credits, her heart skipped a beat. 1000 credits!
That was almost equivalent to 10 million dollars!
’But why do I have so many credits anyway, huh?’ Lana wondered.
All the students were gifted 100 credits on their arrival; it was equivalent to 1 million dollars.
This means that a student could immediately purchase an item valued at 1 million dollars from the website.
Hence, earning credits was way harder than anything in the university.
On checking the history, Lana realized that she got 900 credits for awakening as a mystic cultivator!
Some credits will be awarded to her in case she breaks through!
She opened the shopping interface and clicked on the mystic department interface.
At once, she noticed that the herbs required for each breakthrough were packaged.
And one package was worth...
