Chapter 53: Chapter 53

"Of course." Axel glanced at Lana with a puzzled gaze, not understanding her surprise. But Lana? Her brain stopped functioning.

Is that even a human language?

"You... you must... be speaking of the total cost of the cultivation, right?" Lana gave a nervous laugh, and her complexion turned pale.

A one-sided love may not cause Lana to tear up, but a dent in her wallet can break Lana’s heart.

Mr. Crow could sense the faint throbbing of Lana’s heart because of the connection.

"No, it is the total cost required to reach Earth Stage." This time, it was Betty who replied; her eyes were glimmering with seriousness.

"If I say I want to change my course, is it too late?" Lana asked with utter seriousness, making everyone laugh due to her antics. The source of thɪs content is novel-fire.net

"Haha! Lana, I never knew you were so funny!" Richard laughed; his specs glimmered under the ceiling light.

Lana: No... I am not joking! I am serious.

"The university offers scholarships. Not to mention, you can earn credits to buy resources." Layla kindly explained.

From her perspective, Lana resembled a clueless cat.

"There are also secret realms. Just enter them and gain resources." Wade added, his eyes flashing with a glint.

Lana’s eyes brightened, and her throbbing heart was slowly filled with anticipation.

Right! Credit system!

Her university offers a credit system, where one can earn credits by completing tasks and exchange the credits for resources!

Even though the university was an elite one, it had some scholarship students, and it also wanted to teach the students the importance of earning everything on their own; hence, the resources could only be redeemed with the credits earned!

However, what she didn’t think was... the cultivation material required for a breakthrough will also be available!

In her excitement, she almost took out her phone when Rensworth coughed softly, attracting her attention.

"Young lady, I appreciate your enthusiasm to know everything; however, for now, you need to rein it in." Axel’s deep, masculine voice made Lana freeze before she gave a nod.

"Now I will begin with the course that will be taught this semester, as well as the timetable." He continued with a satisfaction-laced voice when he noticed Lana obeyed his words.

"First up, just like previous years, you will have a cultivation period. It will take half of your schedule. 3 lectures regularly. Your next subject is Analysis of Ghost; it is a compulsory subject and will have..."

Lana summarized the new subjects in her mind.

Analysis of Ghost was a theoretical subject, and the lecture for it will be conducted on Monday and Tuesday. Its main goal was to teach the weakness of the ghosts they may encounter.

Energy Cleanser was a practical subject that would be held for four consecutive days of the week. Its main goal was to teach students to purify their mystic energy.

Combat classes were a practical subject again that would be held on alternate days of the week, and it would teach the students to combat ghosts using various weapons and mystic energy.

The history of Elva was a theoretical subject that covered the country’s history and the connection to the ghost portals. It was going to be held every two days.

Then there were Case Studies of Paranormal Incidents, which would mainly cover all the cases that have taken place till now and teach the students how tricky cases could be. It was going to be held once a week.

And last was Spirit Ethics and Conduct, a compulsory subject designed to ensure that every cultivator understood the moral weight of their power.

It focused on how far one should go in the name of justice, a topic many students found either boring or too philosophical for their liking.

"...Spirit Ethics will be taught every Friday," Axel announced, his tone crisp.

"Attendance is mandatory, and yes, before anyone asks, skipping will directly affect your university credits."

A quiet groan rippled through the class.

Lana slumped in her seat, whispering under her breath, "Great. A moral lecture right before the weekend. Exactly what I needed."

"Before you leave, you’ll each receive your schedule on your academy devices," he continued.

"And a reminder...this semester’s practicals will include the Haunted Grounds Trial. I expect all of you to prepare accordingly."

Lana’s head shot up. "Wait...what’s the Haunted Grounds Trial?" she whispered to Layla, who gave her a mysterious smile.

"It’s a real ghost subjugation trial. The first one of the year. Survive a night inside the Haunted Grounds, cleanse the area, and bring back the 10-year-old ghost core. It’s... the academy’s way of testing if you’re ready to face the real thing."

Haunted Ground was located near the suburbs of Xila City. It was once a temporary safe zone; however, too many incidents made it unsafe, and eventually, any thoughts of converting it into a permanent safe zone were abandoned.

Lana blinked. "Survive a night?"

Layla nodded. "Don’t worry. They say no one’s died in the past two years."

"They say?" Lana repeated, her voice trembling slightly.

Betty turned around from the front row, flashing a grin. "Don’t overthink it, Lana. Think of it as an adventure!"

"Adventure, my foot..." Lana muttered.

’Even when I covered my ass while exorcising, I still got gravely injured. God knows what will happen in this not-so-safe haunted ground.’

"You can find cultivation resources there!~" Richard’s sultry voice made Lana’s eyes light up.

Everyone: (ᵕ—ᴗ—)This girl loves money a lot!

Richard felt a wave of helplessness wash over him. When Lana entered, his heart skipped a beat.

She was just his type. Heck! He can bet his underwear and say that even Wade might have a crush on her.

The way her ivory skin glistened and how her beautiful cherry lips moved, coupled with her black hair that was slightly wavy at the end...

Even her unique personality charmed him to the point that he kept dropping hints to her. But she?

Her heart might only throb at the sight of Bill and ache at the thought of losing those bills!
