Chapter 55: Chapter 55

"Holy sh*t! $100 million? For just breaking through to the Yellow Rank? Capitalism! I want to report!" Lana bellowed; to say she was flabbergasted was an understatement.

Scrolling to the breakthrough section of the Yellow to Earth Rank, Lana’s eyes widened in disbelief.

"$250 million? Why not rob a bank, huh? Does bullying a mystic cultivator give the principal satisfaction?" The raw fury in Lana’s eyes reached Mr. Crow, too.

He silently closed his eyes. ’This is not my master. Yup! This shrew isn’t my master!’

"And for going from Earth to Heaven, they are charging $650 million?"

Lana’s eyes widened so much that Mr. Crow almost thought they’d pop out of her head.

She leaned back in her chair, slamming her palm on the desk as if it would somehow shatter the university system itself.

"$650 million?! Do they think money grows on trees?!" Lana shouted, her voice echoing across the quiet room.

Mr. Crow hovered nervously above her shoulder, his feathers ruffled.

’She’s more terrifying when she’s furious than when she’s cheerful...,’ he thought, his beady eyes narrowing.

Lana’s fingers flew over the keyboard, navigating the university shopping interface.

"Wait a second... there’s a ’student discount’?!" she exclaimed, leaning closer to the screen. Her brows knitted as she read the small print. "Only 5%! Five percent! That’s like... pocket change!"

Lana’s mind whirred with calculations.

She could use her 1000 credits, but even with the discount, it barely made a dent.

And she hadn’t even considered the materials she would need after the breakthrough!

"Mission! We will take on the mission!" Lana muttered and tossed her phone aside.

"Why not apply it then?" Mr. Crow asked with his beady eyes shining with confusion.

"The mission can’t be applied online. We need to go to the mission hall of the university." Lana explained as she stood up; the sound of the chair scraping against the Lunacite echoed in the empty silence.

Once she reached the center, Lana started to cultivate. In front of other students, her cultivation seemed like child’s play, and the only way to bridge the gap was to cultivate.

Mr. Crow didn’t trouble her; instead, he sat on the bed and stared in Lana’s direction with a deep, thoughtful gaze.

For the entire day, Lana cultivated. At dinner, she thought of just ordering some fast food, but Mr. Crow chided her.

"Don’t eat too much takeout! It’s not good for health!"

Lana smirked at Mr. Crow’s admonishment, her eyes glinting mischievously.

"Mommy, huh? Careful, I might start expecting pocket money from you too."

Mr. Crow puffed out his chest indignantly. ’I am no bank! I am a contract beast!’ he thought, glaring at her with beady eyes.

Ignoring him, Lana pulled up the fast food menu and scrolled with a faint sigh.

The temple didn’t have a kitchen, and the monk survived on fruits.

At moments , Lana longed to have her own home.

After placing her order, she leaned back against her bed, eyes closing as she entered a semi-cultivation state.

Lana got ready and went to the university again, but this time, before she could reach the mystic department, she was stopped by a pale hand.

Arching a brow, Lana looked at the person and wasn’t surprised to find Riley, along with cold-faced Brenda.

"Well, well, if it isn’t our fake daughter?"

Lana tilted her head slightly, her expression calm but with a faint edge of amusement.

"Fake daughter? Oh, Riley, you really need to come up with better insults. That one’s almost cute."

Riley’s eyes narrowed, a trace of annoyance flickering across his pale face. "Cute? Come on, Lana, everyone knows that it is a shameful identity."

"Hm? Shameful? Indeed. To be raised in the Almond family for 20 years is indeed shameful. I wish to find my biological parents and ask them why they hadn’t found a better family." Lana mocked, but there was no mirth in her eyes.

"Shame on you, Lana." Brenda, who had been quiet till now, began. Her cold eyes stared at Lana as if she were seeing an ant, "You stole my place for 20 years and..."

"Yet I don’t have any remorse." Lana finished her words with a sarcastic smile, "But Brenda, I wasn’t the one who exchanged the babies. I was a baby myself. Do I feel guilty? Maybe. But should I bow and apologize till my head starts to touch my knees? Absolutely not."

With a mocking smirk, she continued, "Brenda, my parents may owe you an apology, but me? I was just as innocent as you were!"

Brenda laughed; it was a hollow laugh filled with contempt. "Innocent? You? From what angle?"

Her eyes slowly landed on Lana, and the humiliation and the pain she had lived through in the past 20 years started to flash in her mind.

Those biased parents who favored boys over girls made her do all the chores; if it wasn’t for her brilliance, she might have been forced to drop out.

When she met Lana for the first time, her heart burned with fury and despair.

Lana was dressed in a pink silk blouse and a neatly pressed skirt, her posture perfect, her calm demeanor almost infuriatingly composed. She looked every bit the part of a refined young lady, the very image of confidence. Check latest chapters at nοvelfire.net

Her newly done nail art glittered under the ceiling light, piercing Brenda’s heart.

It was the disparity between them that showed Brenda... what she had missed and what might have belonged to her from the beginning.

What infuriated Brenda even more was Lana’s cheerful nature.

She looked so untainted and appealing... while Brenda? She was dressed in patched clothes, her hands had cracks from chores, and she also had various bruises under her t-shirt.

Her gloomy and cold aura starkly contrasted with Lana’s cheerful one.

’Why? Why does she look so good even after leaving the Almond family? She should suffer! Just like I did! I want to wipe off that smile from her face!’
