Chapter 54: Chapter 54

Davion unlocked the door of their house in Reno while Francis unloaded their luggage. The whole trip Celestine had slept while Davion and Sofia quietly sat holding hands. They both were upset at Colton's immature ways.

They walked inside and deposited Celestine in her crib.

"Why couldn't he inform me?" said Davion with frustration. "I told him not to do anything desperate but he didn't listen," said an upset Davion.

"I hope we find him soon," said a grave-looking Sofia.

The next few days were hectic for them. Celestine was running a fever and she was cranky, not leaving Sofia for even a minute. Davion was busy with his work as well as with the investigation. Jane's grandchild was born and she quit her job to look after him. Greta helped Sofia as much as she could. There was no news of Colton yet and Victoria had gone into a bout of depression. Sofia spoke to her parents regularly giving them hope as they just couldn't see Victoria suffer so much.

After a fortnight, Davion received a call from his Manager who had traced Colton to Long Beach, CA. He rushed to see him but returned a day later, looking relieved.

"What happened? Why didn't you bring him back with you?" asked a worried Sofia. Davion smiled.

"He's fine. He bought a new beach villa and plans to move there permanently. He's trying to start afresh there. I'll just call Vicky and give her the news. The rest they can figure out themselves," said Davion. Sofia smiled at his plan and just prayed that it worked.

Knowing that Colton was fine relieved Davion a lot and he relaxed with Sofia and Celestine. With Celestine being better, he played with her after a long time. After tucking in a sleepy Celestine, she finally walked into their bedroom. Davion lay waiting for her, with a hopeful smile on his face. Ever since they had gone to her parents' house, they hadn't been able to spend much time with one another. Ever since her mom had told him about his wish for more grandchildren, Davion had avoided any sort of one-to-one conversation with her mom. Sofia had meant to talk to him but just didn't get the opportunity to start the topic.

"I missed you, Sofia," said Davion as she climbed in beside him, laying her head on his shoulder.

"I missed you too," she said softly.

"Are you tired? I know I haven't been able to give you and Ceecee much attention lately. I'm sorry,' said Davion.

Sofia wrapped her arm around his torso and looked up into his eyes.

"I understand, Davion. It's completely okay," she told him. His eyes looked a little clouded.

"Thank you, Sofia. Go to sleep," he said, releasing her instantly. Sofia was a little disappointed that he didn't make any attempt at making love to her. She felt snubbed and rejected. Didn't Davion desire her at all? Was the magic they shared between them completely lost? Davion turned his back to her and went off to sleep, leaving her cold and heartbroken.

Sofia tolerated his cold behavior for two days. Her mom called to inform her that Victoria had left home with baby Asher and gone to Long Beach to Colton. She was happy for her twin at last. Davion was more relieved and went to Florida on a work trip. Strangely, to her utter disappointment, he didn't even ask her to accompany him.

His behavior hurt Sofia immensely and she had no one to share her concerns with. Greta stood by her like a pillar and with Davion gone, she helped Sofia take care of Celestine while Sofia attended her online classes.

A week passed by and although Davion called her to ask her about her health and Celestine, she noted a sadness in his tone as if he was hurting. "When are you returning home, Davion?" she asked him at last, unable to control herself any longer.

"Tomorrow," he said with a sigh. "I have a New York trip coming up in a few days," he told her warily. Hearing him, Sofia had the feeling that he was trying to avoid her maybe. But why? Why would he need to avoid her?

"I'll accompany you to New York," she stated but Davion didn't say a word at the other end.

"Why? Do you doubt me still?" he asked in a displeased tone. Sofia was dumbfounded by his words. Was he still doubting her?

"No, of course not. How could you think about it? Celestine and I were missing you so I thought of accompanying you but okay, I won't if you don't want me to. Bye, Davion," she said, her voice filling up with hurt. When he didn't answer, she just disconnected the call and wept into her pillow. She was deeply hurt by his behavior. She was his wife after all. Why couldn't he talk to her if something was bothering him?

The next day, she waited the whole day but Davion didn't return home. She found out from his manager that he had left for New York. Sofia was mad at him by now. She didn't call him at all, spending time with her baby.

It was Friday and a tired Davion boarded his flight to return home at last. The last test reports were all he could think of.

He had tested himself in Las Vegas at one of the best clinics there. He was suffering from 30% erectile dysfunction and infertility issues. It broke him completely knowing that he wouldn't be able to please Sofia anymore. She would be so disappointed in a worthless husband like him. She deserved someone much better. He could never be a father again and Celestine would never be able to have a sibling of her own. These thoughts ate him up coupled with the fact that everyone was expecting him and Sofia more children.

The last few days he had running away from home, from Sofia. There was no way he could stay away from her with her looking so beautiful but he didn't want her to find out. He was scared to make love to her! He knew that she would find out if he did. No, no one should find out about his defect. He sighed and closed his eyes to catch up on some sleep. How he had missed Sofia! But the report had devastated him completely!
