Chapter 38: Chapter 38

Outside the guest room, Wesley stared down at the white sheet of paper in his hand which had some of Daisy's details scribbled on it, her address especially.

Since he already has her phone number, he took out his phone from his pants pocket and scrolled through his call log before dialling a number. Since yesterday, when he called her and her dad, had suddenly shouted that way before the call dropped, he had not stopped wondering and worrying about what could have happened.

In fact, it had made him think late into the night till he fell asleep. He had kept on refraining from calling again since her dad had mentioned yesterday that she wasn't in the right state to talk to anybody. Even that alone is enough to make him know that Daisy is currently not doing fine.

Truth is, Wesley is still yet to figure out that he is always getting too worried about her. He is aware of the fact that he's been worrying about her these days and he always justifies that with the fact that he is in one way or the other involved in this case that put her in trouble.

'I'm involved in a way and should therefore take responsibility, at least in some way,' he would always think that way.

But then he isn't aware that he's been worrying way too much and he just feels that it's normal he worries about her.

Wesley suddenly remembered something.

As the good boss and good friend that he is, he decided to give Andrew the day off.

So, he turned on his heels and went back to the guest room. Turning the doorknob and poking his head in, he stared at Andrew who was sitting on the bed busy with his phone. The latter hearing someone open the door raised his head to stare back at who was at the door.

Seeing it was Wesley, he smiled lightly.

"I'll be out soon. You can leave without me but I promise not to be late," he muttered then made to get off the bed.

Wesley simply rolled his eyes at him and said, "Just take the day off."

Then he left Andrew in the room without waiting for a response from him.

Andrew smiled gratefully. At least he could use today to figure many things out.

Walking through the hallway of his guest rooms, Wesley dialled Daisy's number again since it had previously gone unanswered.

Daisy had woken up in the early hours of the morning but she had not for once left her bed. She had laid there for about two hours just staring blankly at the ceiling.

She had a nightmare yesterday. A bizarre and unsettling one that made her scream so much her dad had to run over to her.

In the dream, Daisy felt herself being kicked again and again. Panic set in as she stumbled towards a steep. It was a dark abyss that lay before her. With a deafening scream, she hit the edge and tumbled into the abyss which seemed like a lowered floor.

As she hit bottom Daisy could feel the cold, damp ground under her even though it was titled which sent a shiver down her spine. This was the same steep as her previous dream, the one she had had at Rose's place which was why this recent dream had scared her so much cause during the dream, she had actually thought the dream was finally coming to pass.

Looking up were three ladies, their faces concealed in their monstrous masks, with one in front who seemed to be the leader. She was the one who had kicked her down. Somehow, she thought they seemed familiar, especially the leader. But she just couldn't place where and why.

Suddenly, the leader pulled out an object from her cloak. It was a weapon, one that Daisy had never seen before. The object glinted in the dim light, sending a chill down her spine. The leader's eyes sparkled with a cruel glee as she raised the weapon towards Daisy.

One of the other masked ladies behind the evil leader began to snicker, delighted at the unsavable situation Daisy was in. She seemed to be really enjoying the show unfolding while Daisy could feel her heart racing as terror spread throughout her body. She knew she was in danger, but she had no idea what was going on or why this was happening.

"Who have I offended? Who did I offend? Who hates me this much? Just who?" Daisy could not help but mutter fearfully and panicky.

The leader with a wicked glint in her eyes suddenly aimed her weapon at Daisy and seeing this, she let out a blood-curdling scream as the weapon hit her brutally.

At that moment, it was as if she did not feel any pain. Daisy had woken up drenched in sweat and the shock alone was extremely painful.

When she opened her eyes to her dad holding her with a picked expression, she burst into tears. Even though she was grateful it was just another nightmare, she still could not help but wonder why she was having these dreams. It had taken her a moment to realize that it had all been a dream all along but the fear lingered long after.

This morning, she had woken up, peacefully this time but even still, she still felt tired from all the recent occurrences that had now taken a toll on her.

There was no nightmare this morning but she still felt weak and fearful.

Last night, her dad had suggested she sleep in his room or her sister, Violet's room but she had refused.

'She would not inflict her problem on anyone,' she thought.

Just as she continued to lay weakly while staring nonstop at the ceiling, she heard her phone ringing which she ignored without thinking twice.

But then it began ringing again.

She sighed, wondering who was calling her. Somehow thinking it could be her friend or even her boyfriend...

'My boyfriend calling?'

Just the thought of that alone made her eyes widen but they went dim almost immediately.

'Isn't that way too much for me to think or hope for?' she chuckled sadly.

Her phone had stopped ringing but a minute later, it resumed ringing again.

This time, she struggled to raise her weak self and went for the phone which was on the bed and only just a few inches away from her.

Staring at the screen and seeing it was an unknown number, her brows furrowed as she wondered who was calling her. But then, she decided to pick. Maybe it is from whoever had set her up.

Not really caring so much about anything, she picked up the call and placed it against her ear. Then she waited for the caller to speak first.

"Daisy?" A strangely familiar masculine voice called her from the other end making her raise her brows.

"And you are?" She countered

Even though she tried so hard not to sound weak, she still sounded weak.

There was a brief pause at the end before the caller revealed his identity.

"I'm Wesley," he said.

Daisy lay back a bit confused. She could not remember who Wesley was but the name rang a bell.

Wesley, seeing he did not get a response decided to remind her, even though it hurt his ego. He found it odd. 'How does she not remember? Is the internet backlash affecting her memory?'

Anyways, without wasting any more time, he stated, "Wesley, the guy from that night a few days ago."

Hearing that alone, Daisy felt something explode in her head and her cheeks began to burn.

She could not control the embarrassing anger that was beginning to well up in her.

"And why are you calling me?" She seethed.

Sensing her anger, Wesley was rather bemused.

"Hey come on, none of this was my fault. I was a victim too remember?"
