Chapter 22: Chapter 22

Faint voices coming from the living room strayed towards her hearing and Cindy could not help but smuggle against her pillow feeling reluctant to get up from bed. She was laying on her stomach with her hands stretched across the bed, her phone in hand.

In the end, she opened her eyes lazily and yawned. Then she pulled her phone closer to see it was 8:30 am already.

“Arrgghhh, how and when did I even sleep off?” she yawned lazily once more.

She glanced at her phone and remembered she had slept off while reading the hateful comments and online articles about Daisy online.

She scoffed as she sat up on the bed.

“Even the story of your downfall is boring Daisy,” she said mockingly with a sly smile on.

Robbing her eyes, she moved closer to the edge of the bed before dropping her feet on the cold tiles.

The voices coming from the living room had drawn her attention and she wanted to see what was going on.

Not like it sounded like an argument or ruckus. In fact, it no way sounded like that.

She’s even quite familiar with Rose’s voice but the other voice asides from Rose’s is what she’s quite unfamiliar with. But anyways, she wanted nothing going on, especially things related to Daisy to cross her nose without her knowing about it.

Walking towards the bedroom door, she pulled it open and stepped out to the living room to see Rose actually on a call and the doctor from last night talking to Daisy who lay weakly on the couch, looking like she had just woken up from her deep slumber.

But then, she did not know why she had earlier thought that the voices she was hearing did not sound like any form of argument cause there was Rose standing by the window backing them and seriously arguing with whoever was on the other end of the call.

“You should never have done that. Excuse me but you’re so disappointing sir. At least you should have respected the fact you promised to make that post and when things turned bad, you should at least wait to hear a word from any of us before carrying out your act of cruelty.”

Cindy watched as Rose spoke angrily on the phone and anger flashed in her eyes. She knew she was speaking with director Carlson and she could not help but feel extremely bitter, knowing Rose would go over to the company to fight on behalf of Daisy.

But of what use would her fight be?

There, she strongly made up her mind to report Rose to the Lady from the Coasters, since the latter loves Daisy so much, probably more than herself. There and then, she began looking forward to Rose’s downfall too. And she inwardly promised to see to it.

“Once Daisy is vindicated, I promise to sue you and make sure you pay for damages. You can’t even protect your own artists. No investigations, nothing! Just wow,” Rose muttered angrily through gritted teeth before hanging up the call.

Cindy stared on, trying so hard to hide the displeasure and hatred in her eyes, unknown to her that the doctor was staring at her feeling conflicted.

Once Rose ended the call, she turned and walked towards Daisy and that was when she noticed Cindy who also came closer. She had expertly replaced her earlier evil expression and was now staring at Daisy worriedly.

“Good morning Rose,” she greeted first before standing beside the doctor and crotching down in front of Daisy.

“Hope you slept well, Cindy?” Rose asked staring down at Cindy who in reply nodded with an innocent smile. “I did. Thanks so much, sister.”

The two young ladies both turned to look at Daisy before turning to the doctor.

“How is she now?” they asked in unison and found themselves chuckling afterwards.

The doctor smiled and answered, “she’s fine now. At least she’s now in the right state of mind. Just that she’s really weak now and just needs to rest.”

Cindy cleared her throat and fixed her eyes on Daisy, pretending to be both worried and anxious. “But why is she weak?” she asked. “I really don’t get why she’s suddenly weak.”

“Mental strain. She’s mentally stressed.”

With his eyes narrowed slightly, he glanced at Cindy and she did not even realize he had given her that look.

“I’ll prescribe some drugs for her and run some tests since I didn’t do that last night,” he said, looking up at Rose who nodded at him giving him a go-ahead.

Seeing that, he got up from the stool he was sitting on opposite Daisy and went over to the other couch to pick up his bag that contained medical stuff and equipment.

All this while, Diasy just stared ahead without uttering a word. Rose kept looking at her and when she couldn’t take it any longer, she turned to the doctor.

“Will she be fine?”

The doctor looked at Rose and smiled, “she sure will. In two days from now, she would be up and doing.”

Rose breathed out a sigh of relief at his response. Then taking a quick glance at her wristwatch, she turned to the doctor once more.

“Please take care of her,” her voice was pleading as she said that.

Cindy looked up at her, wondering where she was going or what she was up to and just then, Rose said, “I’m leaving for Finn’s media and should be back in less than two hours.”

Just as Cindy had speculated, Rose would not rest even after Daisy has obviously gone down the drain. She scoffed inwardly.

Daisy raised her head weakly to look at Rose. Her eyes were lifeless.

“Don’t go please,” she muttered slowly and lowly. “You don’t have to. I’ve decided to give up on everything Rose…”

Rose was stunned and did not know what to say at that moment. But anyways, she shook her head, crouched in front of Daisy and with a sad smile, she said, “it’s okay not to go back to Finn’s media anymore or go back to acting, but you deserve to be vindicated and proved innocent.”

But still, Daisy shook her head in disagreement. “it doesn’t matter Rose. I really don’t care anymore. “

“It does,” Rose countered back, her eyes reddening slightly. “It really does,” she said again and breathed out a sigh.

Daisy did not say anything again afterwards and just lay there, her lips pale and dry. Rose stared at her worriedly for a while before looking back at the doctor.

“Please take care of her, I beg you. Do everything possible to bring her back to the Daisy I know,” she pleaded then looking at Cindy, she said, “Cindy please take care of her.”

Cindy nodded at that but Daisy gave her a look. “I’ll be fine all alone. You should go to work,” she said.

The two ignored her anyways and while Rose left the house, Cindy went to stand beside the doctor, assisting him with his equipment as he began carrying out several tests on her.

“I’ll take her to the room afterwards so she can sleep properly on a bed,” the doctor said while glancing at Cindy who was holding a medical tray full of syringes.

“Alright,” she answered.

Just then, her phone rang. The doctor took the tray from her so she could pick up her call before going over to pick up another stool.

Bringing out her phone and seeing the private number displayed on her screen, her heart skipped a beat. She knew she could not answer the call there so she excused herself before going back to the room she had spent the night.

She shut the door, picked up the call and hastily moved to the bathroom.

Placing the phone against her ear, she waited for the person on the other end of the call to speak first, as usual.

“Where are you, Cindy?”

When Cindy heard that, her eyes widened, cause for some reason, at that moment, she had sounded just exactly like Rose.

She immediately brought the phone from her ear to see if it was perhaps Rose that had called her and she had made a mistake. But after reconfirming it was actually the private number, she immediately placed back the phone against her ear with wide eyes.

“Cindy, where are you?” the question came again and this time she sounded eerily like the lady from the Coasters.

Cindy released the breath she never knew she was holding seeing she had heard wrong before answering as meekly as possible, “I’m at Rose.” Then she added, “but I have something to tell you about Rose.”
