Chapter 77: Chapter 77
*** *** *** ***
Ava's POV
A few days has passed and Skye seemed better than before. I ensured he had new dress wounds every day. Despite being unwell, he was still being a pervert. As I unwrapped his last bandage from his arm, he pulled me closer to himself.
"How are my babies doing?" He asked and I raised a brow.
"Your babies?" I asked.
He nodded as he tucked a wayward strand of my hair away from my face. "You and the baby in you." He said and I gave a small smile.
"Doing pretty well," I said. He placed a kiss on my forehead.
"Thank you for your care." He said and I just stayed there with a smile on my face. I planned on telling him about my feelings today.
He lowered his head towards mine and I looked away and tried to leave his arms. "You're not completely healed, Skye," I said to him.
"With you in my arms, I'm made whole." He said, pulling me gently back on him as he placed his lips on mine. I sighed as his tongue probed deeper into my mouth. He kissed me softly as he ran his fingers along the lines of my back.
The door opened and I pulled quickly away from him. He groaned in dismay. Walter walked in with Robin and the both of them had a smile on their faces.
"Ye lusty stallion," Walter exclaimed. "Already mounting with an injured arm." He said and I looked away in embarrassment.
Skye laughed. "I'm doing very fine today Walter." He said.
"Thanks to the queen," Robin said with a smile on his face towards me. My eyes met with Skye and something passed between us. "She really deserves it." He said.
I gave him a small smile.
"I'll check you and I'll be the one to tell you if you're really fit," Walter said and Skye groaned.
"I'll be back," I said as I stood to my feet.
"Where are you off to?" He asked me.
"I feel hungry," I said and he nodded. "Alright." He said and I turned away and walked out of the room and down the stairs. I walked into the kitchen and scooped some grits and gravy into a plate and headed to the dining room. This was the second time I was eating this morning. The tonic Anna gave me to release my abdominal pain also increased my appetite.
I finished and returned the dishes to the kitchen. I cleaned them up and headed out of the pack house. I saw Walter getting into his car and driving away. I stood outside the pack house feeling the spring air on my skin. It was spring already and cleaning the pack house would commence this Saturday.
I felt Skye's arms around me. "Done eating?" He asked me.
"Hmmm Hmmm," I said nodding.
He exhaled. "You're finally getting used to dresses." He said and I chuckled. "Why do you say that?" I asked him.
"I remember how you're always on tight pants and boots. Pregnancy is really changing you." He said and I turned in his arms and frowned. "Are you trying to say I don't look good in breeches?" I asked him with a pout.
"I didn't say that," he said.
"That's what you clearly indicated," I said still pouting. "Don't tell me this is one of those pregnancy fits." He said and I chuckled. "It is." He sighed. "How long do I have to deal with your pregnancy hormones?" He asked.
I entwined my arms around his neck. "Just a month left," I said to him.
As wolves, we females don't deliver as humans do. It was a range of 62 to 75 days for us to deliver which was two months and two weeks. And I was a month and a few days gone. He sighed again. "I pray I can tolerate." He said.
I frowned again. "Are you tired of me already?" I asked him.
"I never said that," he said in amusement.
"You just implied that you.." Before I could finish, he shut me up with a kiss.
"Gosh, you're becoming annoying." He said when he pulled away.
"So now I'm," I began again and he placed his finger on my lips. "Hush. I want to stretch my limbs a bit." He said as he placed his finger down. "Where?" I asked him.
"At the field." He responded.
"I'll be right behind you," I said and he nodded and walked towards the field.
I stood there rehearsing how I was going to tell him I was in love with him. I had already sealed my thoughts from him so he couldn't know what went on in my head. After much debating and getting nothing, I concluded that when it was time, it will flow naturally.
I got to the open field and he was already shifted into his wolf form as he ran across the field. I smiled and sat down on the grass. Eros was quite charming and Isla wanted to be out to play with her mate but I refused. I didn't want to stress my babies while shifting.
Eros sighted me and ran across the field toward me. He licked my face the moment he got to me and I chuckled.
He placed his head on my already visible bump and listened to the heartbeat of the babies. "It sounds like two heartbeats," Skye whispered in my head.
"Really?" I asked feigning surprise. I ruffled Eros's head and back. "You're such a cute boy aren't you?" I asked switching topics.
He wagged his tail in happiness as he rested on me. His red eyes shone brightly.
I chuckled as I lay on the grass and he laid his head on my chest as I stroked his back. "You know what Skye?" I asked him.
"What is it, love?" He asked me telepathically.
"I.." I began and was interrupted by one of the pack members running toward us.
"Alpha, alpha." He said repeatedly.
Skye growled as he got off me. "What is it, Reuben?" He asked him through the mind link he shared with them all.
"Natasha is here." He said in perplexity. I was shocked. I recalled Skye banished her from the pack. So what was she doing here?
Skye gave a snarl as he advanced toward the pack house. I sat on the grass wondering what he was going to do. I stood up to follow him but the sharp pain I felt made me sit back on the grass. It felt like the babies were fighting inside of me. I sat down taking deep breaths.
Skye's POV
Natasha was banished already and warned never to return to the pack house but she disobeyed. I shifted back to human and wore my clothes back on.
"Where is she?" I demanded.
"Inside the pack house," Reuben answered as we walked in. There Natasha stood with a saucy smile. "Hello, Skye. Miss me?" She asked.
"What are you doing here?" I demanded in anger. Many of the pack members were coming out and taking peeps at us.
She had a weird smile on her face. "I've come to see you, love." She said.
"I'll ask you for the last time, what are you doing here?" I asked her menacingly.
She straightened up. "I've come to tell you the truth about the death of your mother." She said and I stared at her. "What rubbish are you talking about?" I asked her.
"Your mother's murder was committed by Ava's mother." She said with a straight look on her face. Everyone gasped and I stared at Natasha in shock. "What?" I exclaimed softly.
"You must be joking. Now get out of here." I said to her. She chuckled. "Do you think I stand to gain anything by telling you this?"
"I do not know what you're up to but stop this blabbing of yours and leave," I said.
"If you think what I'm saying is a lie, why don't you go through the personal journal of your father?" She said. I recalled seeing his journal among the books in the cabinet but I refused to touch it. With what she was saying, the curious part of me wanted to find out what the journal was about.
"What's going on here?" I heard Ava's voice behind me.
Natasha chuckled. "I just told Skye the truth about your mother behind his mother's death." She said and I advanced towards the study room. "What?" I heard Terra's voice before I closed the door.
I went through my father's journal and I saw his writing. 'I saw the queen of the crescent pack with blood in her hands as she pulled a knife from my wife's body. Before I could come closer, she fled and that was when I believed she murdered my wife. In retaliation, I killed her too and...' I dropped the journal with trembling hands unable to continue reading. Ava's mother was my mother's murderer. The woman I swore to avenge.
