Chapter 56: Chapter 56
Ava's POV
Skye avoided me and made sure we didn't see each other in the mornings. He also decided to leave our bedroom and be alone. I soon found out the study room was where he spends all his nights.
Maybe that was what we needed. We needed to drift apart so I would stop getting attached. But it kept breaking my heart when he sees me and just walk away.
I stood outside the pack house and Anna came up to me. "You sent for me." She said lowering her head.
After Skye yelled at her, Anna has been keeping to herself and locked away in her room. I believed she needed some time to get over what mean words Skye said to her. But look at her face this morning, she wasn't over it.
"Walk with me," I said to her and she obliged, falling along my strides.
"I believe I need to apologize to you on behalf of the alpha. He was really furious and worried about Luna's safety." I apologized.
She shook her head. "It's fine my queen. I hold nothing against the alpha, if not for him I won't be alive today. I owe him my life." She said.
"I still feel like an apology should be tendered to you. It is something that he should do but really angry right now to think of such." I said again still apologizing. I wasn't yet convinced that she was over it.
"My queen, the alpha owes me no apology. I was careless. I had no idea the barrier was weak and that the demon king could find his way in." She said.
"Do you perhaps know how he did that?" I asked.
"It's a mystery only he knows." She said shaking her head.
I stopped and turned to her. "You told me about a vision you saw about me, that I was connected to a serpent."
"Yes," she said nodding.
"You also said he slithered around me lovingly," I said looking at her anxiously. She nodded, giving me a puzzled look. "It simply means that the serpent is my father, the demon king and he truly loves me right?" I said to her. I was having hope that my father would change.
She held my hand and closed her eyes. She muttered a few incoherent words and suddenly let go of my hand. She took a step back. "You have special abilities." She said to me and I looked around. "Hush, don't say that out loud," I said to her.
"Your abilities are of that of your father." She said in horror and I stared at her. "What?" I exclaimed.
"I never expected it to turn out this way," she said pacing around.
"What do you mean Anna?" I asked her.
"The special powers are supposed to be from the moon goddess but it seems you have inherited the demon powers. I should have guessed so, after all, he is your father." She said.
"Make this clear to me Anna, I don't quite understand your manner of words," I said to her. She was confusing me. Were my special abilities bad?
"Your sudden closeness to him is rubbing off his demon qualities on you and bringing out that dark side in you. It is also affecting your special powers. I see trouble my queen, nothing but trouble." She said in fear.
"Anna, what does it have to do with him? Is he the reason why?" I asked, a sudden fear gripping me.
"He's a demon and he is not going to change. I see a fierce battle between you both. My queen, it is your destiny to slay him." She said instead.
"No," I said trying not to break down.
"It has been written in your destiny, you can't change fate." She said.
"Is there no other way?" I asked her and she shook her head. "Besides, haven't you noticed that you are..." She began but was suddenly disrupted by the presence of Camila.
"Beta Phil is here to see you." Camila directed to me.
"Urgent?" I asked her.
"Yes." She said nodding.
"Anna, I'll get back to you," I said to her and she nodded. I walked away.
Anna's POV
"Are you okay?" Camila asked me. I nodded. "I'm fine," I said walking back to the pack house.
Camila followed beside me. "You don't look okay, what's bothering you?" She pestered me.
"Nothing Camila," I said still engrossed in my thoughts. I got into the pack house and passed by Ava, she looked at me and I looked away unable to meet her gaze. I felt so sorry for her.
"Anna you look pale. Tell me what's wrong?" Camila asked still following me.
"Camila?" I heard Robin's voice. I was thankful he called her. "Yes, beta Robin?" She said walking towards him. "I need you for something." He said. He motioned for her to follow him and she did and I was thankful.
I had a feeling they had something going on they didn't want to let anyone know but, I didn't have time to worry about that now.
I got to my room and shut the door. I advanced towards the bed and sat down with my knees up on my chin and my arms wrapped around me. How was I going to tell Ava? How was I going to let her know about the darkness that looms around her? How was I going to tell her about the calamity that looms around her and her future? How was I going to tell her of the impending danger waiting for her that she cannot escape? The trials and tribulations she must go through. How would I let her know all this? And the betrayals? How would I let her know that and also tell her that her greatest strength was with the alpha? I sat in my room debating on what to do.
Ava's POV
"I'm surprised to see you here," I said to him.
"Have I now been forbidden to come to see you?" He asked me.
"Not at all. You are still my uncle. You raised me," I said and I saw emotions written all over his face. "I thought you were still mad at me," I said.
"Angry at you, why?" He questioned.
"Because of my refusal to kill my father. Everyone is angry and against me for that." I said.
"Come here," he said spreading his arms open and I went into his embrace. I snuggled in his arms and the memories of my childhood flooded my memories. "I can never stay upset with you for long." He said.
"Thank you uncle," I said and we pulled apart. Then I saw Anna coming in with Camila and she had a worried look on her face.
Our eyes met but she looked away unable to meet my gaze. Was the vision troubling her that much? I wondered.
"How's the pack doing?" I asked uncle as we advanced toward the couch. "Fine, I guess. Everyone is tensed up I must confess." He said as he sat down.
I sat on the arm of the couch opposite him. "Skye tells me you met with Clark again and you asked Anna to lift up the barrier protecting the pack house." He said to me.
I sighed. "I met with father but I didn't tell Anna to lift up the barrier. How father got in, I do not know but Skye was giving Anna an earful so I had to save her from his wrath." I explained to uncle.
He nodded in understanding. "What did Clark say to you?" He asked.
"Nothing serious. I told him I knew he was the demon king and he didn't deny it but he promised to change." I said assuring uncle but he scoffed.
"Clark?" He scoffed again. "You never cared to ask how your mother became queen without getting married to Clark." He said changing the topic in another direction.
"I'm eager to know now," I said to him.
"To become queen, she had to get married to one of the packs which she did but he was later killed." He said.
"Killed? Why?" I asked him.
"His body was found near a cave. Your mother believed your father killed him." He said.
"Why would mother think so?" I asked.
"Only Clark kills without spilling blood. All the blood in his body was drained and not a single one dropped." He explained.
"If he knew where mother was at that time, why didn't he kill me then?" I asked having doubts about the whole 'he tried to kill you at birth' thing.
"Honestly, Ava, it baffles me till date. He had so many opportunities but he didn't use any. Instead, we never heard from him again till now." He said.
"This means he is not so bad after all. Maybe he killed mother's husband because he was jealous." I said trying to see reasons with him.
He shook his head, holding me. "Don't be fooled now, Ava. It is very clear to me that Clark returned for a motive. He's not.." I interrupted him.
"Maybe you're misjudging him now uncle. Maybe he is back for a change and..." I began and he interrupted me too.
"I do not want to argue with you, Ava, but believe me, I know Clark more than you do." He said and rose to his feet. "I'll take my leave now, I have to be with the pack." He said and I nodded. He was representing me over there. I walked him to the door and watched him get into his old pickup truck and drove away.
Just then, Skye walked out of the pack clinic. Our eyes met and he looked away from me and turned to a smiling Luna holding his hand and he squatted to her level. I stood there staring at him and when our eyes met again and his gaze held mine, I felt my heart flip over.
