Chapter 55: Chapter 55

Ava's POV

The next morning, my eyes were swollen due to the endless tears I shed last night. I got up from the bed and dragged my feet to the bathroom. A cold bath was what I needed.

Moments later, I was done washing up and donned on a simple sleeveless top tucked in black jeans and headed downstairs. Skye was seated in the dining and the moment he saw me, he stood up and left without saying a word to me.

I dropped on the chair. I sighed as my stomach grumbled. I was tired and hungry. I picked up the sliced toast and took a bite. My thoughts were all juggled up. My mind was messed up too. I didn't know what to do. For the first time, I was really afraid. What if I made a mistake? What if the prophecy was gotten all wrong? I placed it on the table trying not to cry. I felt helpless and confused beyond words.

I walked towards the lake. The ice was melting away by the sun. Winter was over and spring was approaching. I got to the lake and saw a figure standing in front of it. Like he was waiting for me, he turned around sharply and smiled.

"Daughter." He said.

"Father," I said baffled. What was he doing here? How did he get in here? The barrier was set to prevent him from coming in, how did he get past it? All these thoughts spread through my mind like wildfire.

"How did you get in?" I asked, walking towards him. He raised a brow. "The blood moon pack is free to all." He said smiling.

"A barrier has been set in this territory father, so how did you break it?" I asked him. He chuckled. "I simply walked in Ava. Is there something else you think I did?" He asked.

"Yes because the barrier was set to protect us from you," I said staring at him.

"Me, why?" He asked with a bemused frown.

"No need to pretend father, I know who you are," I said to him and he stared at me. "What are you saying?" He asked.

"You're the demon king," I said and he had a hardened look on his face as he turned away.

"Your uncle told you that right?" He asked me, his back still turned against me.

"Yes, and it's very obvious it's the truth," I said to him. He turned back to me. "Are you now going to outcast your father because of what he was born as and has no control over?" He asked me with a look of pain in his eyes.

"No. You've had two chances to kill me but you haven't." I said.

"I would never think of hurting you, Ava." He said to me and this time I was the one who looked away.

"Everyone doesn't believe you can change. A demon is always a demon, they say." I said to him.

"You won't slay your father now, would you?" He asked me and I saw a hint of fear in his eyes when I looked at him.

I shook my head. "I want you to promise me," I began as I held his hands. His eyes went red for a moment and returned to normal. "Are you okay?" I asked him and he nodded.

"Promise me that you'd change. Promise me that you won't make the crescents your meals anymore and I'd spare you." I said to him hoping he would agree. I wanted him to. He took his hands away from mine and nodded. "I'd let the crescents be if that's what you really want." He said and I hugged him tightly. He hugged me back and then we pulled apart.

"Come tell me how you met mother, I presume I need to know that," I said with a smile.

"The blood moon alpha has made you naughty I see." He said chuckling and I looked shyly away.

He sat down on the grass and tapped a spot beside him gesturing for me to sit and I obliged. "I met your mother the day I decided to leave the comfort of my cave," he began. "She was the most beautiful creature I've ever seen. She had this lovely smile just like you," he said and I smiled. "Exactly just like that," he said smiling lovingly at me.

This was what I wanted. What I always dreamed of and it was coming to reality. I was having a real conversation with my biological father. The happiness in my heart knew no bounds. "We fell in love immediately and.."

"Alpha." I heard Luna's voice behind me. I got to my feet and smiled at her. "Hey, little one," I said. "I..." She began then stopped and she started trembling.

"What is it, Luna?" I asked her in perplexity.

"He.." She raised a trembling finger in father's direction. I looked over and saw father just standing.

"He killed mother." She said as tears dropped from her eyes.

"Go," I said to father.

"Ava, I.." He began but I cut him off. "Just leave. Go." I said to him raising my voice a little. In my excitement of meeting my father again, I had forgotten Luna was still traumatized by what he did to her family.

I held her. "Hush," I said comforting her. "Hush, He's gone now," I said to her. "He won't hurt you or anyone anymore, believe me," I said to her reassuringly.

Luna lay asleep on the bed. She wouldn't stop trembling after I brought her inside the pack house and Skye had sent for a doctor. The doctor Skye called for had finished examining her and came down the stairs.

"How's she?" Skye asked when he sighted him.

"She's traumatized. If the incident was quite gruesome, it will take her a long period of time to get over it. Right now she needs some sleep and she should not be left alone to avoid thinking of it." He said.

"Thank you very much, Walter," Skye said as he walked him to the door.

He returned and all I got was daggered glares from him. "Did you hear that? Do you want to put the lives of others at risk for your own selfish gain, tell me, do you?" He demanded. His eyes blazing with anger.

"I.." I was unable to form words.

"You what?!" He yelled at me. Skye never yells at me and this side of him frightened me.

"How did he even get in here in the first place?" He asked no one in particular as he raised his hands up in exasperation. "Anna! Anna!" He yelled repeatedly for her and the poor girl rushed down the stairs in fear. "Alpha." She curtsied.

"You set up a barrier in this territory. How did the demon king get past through it?" He demanded ignoring her curtsey.

"He got passed?" She asked in shock.

"I won't be asking you if he didn't!" He said irritably. Poor Anna was having an earful from him.

"I don't know. Maybe he broke it." She said tears clouding her eyes and that provoked him the more.

"Which means you made a fragile barrier. Of what use do I have of you then? Tell me, young lady, of..." He began, angrily saying words he'd regret later and I interrupted him.

"I told her to uplift the barrier," I said taking the blame. Anna was already in tears. He turned his angry eyes that were spitting venom at me. "You did what?" He demanded.

"Leave," I said to Anna and she raced up the stairs.

"You did what?" He demanded more hostile than usual.

"I told Anna to lift the barrier, so I can see my father anytime," I said raising my chin in defiance despite knowing I was about to get lashed at.

"What the bloody hell is wrong with you woman?!" He yelled in frustration.

"I told her to uplift the barrier," I repeated. "I do not have time to battle words with you," I said and turned to walk out on him.

He grabbed my arm in a painful grasp and pulled me back. "Do not walk out on me ever again woman." He said in a low menacing voice that sent fear down my spine. "And what if I do?" I demanded, hiding the fear trembling inside of me.

"Lord knows I feel like strangling you right now." He muttered in anger.

"Then why don't you go ahead? At least end this misery for both of us." I said not backing down. He stared at me dangerously and for a minute I thought he was going to hit me. He let go of my arm forcefully and I almost fell down. He walked away without a backward glance at me.
