Chapter 43: Chapter 43
Ava's POV
I walked towards the lake trying to forget what happened last night. I felt abashed. Why would I make such an outburst?
I was upset he marked her but he did so at his own will. Why would I force him to do the same with me? I was glad he didn't. I had woken up and said nothing to him about the marking and so did.
I was glad he didn't mark me in that way I would be his forever but I was also bitter he didn't mark me. What if he likes Natasha better? Why was I even worried about such nonsense? To hell with them.
Just then I heard Natasha's voice behind me. "Ava," she called out to me. I gave one look at her and continued to walk forward.
"Wait up," she said again and I got pissed and turned around. "What do you want from me?" I asked her.
"There's no need being hostile. I'm here to talk," she said feigning a smile.
"About what hmm? If you wanna talk about your sexual relationship with Skye, please do it with someone else and not me." I said walking away. She followed me.
"What the hell," I said getting irritated by her presence.
"You know," she said ignoring my damnation. "Skye is a fierce and passionate lover," she began but I cut her off. Didn't she get it?
"Thank you for that Natasha but I've got the upper hand in knowing that. I don't need you to tell me if your previous escapades with him." I said exasperated.
"I'm not trying to rile you up," she said.
"I know you are," I said to her but she shook her head.
We got to the lake and stopped. "I just want to be a friend," she said. I scoffed. "I am not one to have a large circle of friends and I am fine with the ones I have," I said.
"You don't have to be so uptight and rude you know." She said getting angry as well. It was very hard for her to pretend and I knew that. "Oh my, thank you. That's me and I'm not gonna change for your selfish interest in a pretense form of friendship. I can tell a friend from a green snake." I said.
"What!" She exclaimed. Just then a few kids about three came over along with Luna and went towards the ice for skating.
"Don't go to the ice, it's not stable for skating right now," I said to them.
"No, it is. It is good for skating." Natasha said and I disagreed.
"It is not safe. It's..."
"Why should we listen to you? You're not a blood moon." One of the eldest kids said.
Luna came up to me. "I really want to skate alpha." She said in that tiny loveable voice of hers.
I crouched up on one knee and held her. "It's not safe Luna. I promise when it is, I'll let you skate with the blood moons." I said to her and she nodded.
The blood moons jeered at her and went to the icy lake despite my warnings.
I turned towards Natasha as Luna let go of me. "You're making the kids rebellious."
She folded her arms across her chest. "How? The kids do not recognize you as a blood moon, how's that my fault?" She asked. There was a glint of evil in her eyes. I walked away from her. Her irritating presence only riled me up the more.
Just then I heard a crack and turned sharply toward the lake. The ice was breaking. "Get out of there now!" I yelled and was running towards them. Natasha stood there like a statue. I didn't get to them on time and they fell into the water. They were screaming and splashing. I walked on the ice with care to avoid another breakage. I lowered on my stomach and stretched out my hand. "Grab hold of my hand!" I yelled and one of the girls held my hand and I pulled her up.
Gently I took her to land and she sat there shivering as Natasha took off her jacket and placed it on her.
I went over to the ice and rescued the second girl and took her to land. I was left with only the boy. I went towards him and tried to grab his hand but couldn't. "C'mon grab my hand!" I said to him. He tried to but couldn't.
"Go get the help you bloody bitch!" I yelled at Nat.
"I'm going." She said turning away. I was panicking. Just then I heard Luna's cry. I turned towards her direction. She was on the ice face flat and Natasha was already in the forest. How did she get there? "Don't rush it, girl," I said to Luna as she slowly rose to her feet. "That's it, girl," I said. "Now walk.." I didn't get to finish my words when the ice cracked. "Leave there now!" I yelled to her but as a little girl, she wasn't quick enough and the ice broke and she fell. "Luna!" I screamed in fright. She was drowning.
I turned to the boy. "C'mon grab my hand please." I pleaded trying not to cry but I could feel I was breaking. He just couldn't. When he finally did, I looked over at Luna and saw her hand was no longer in the air. She was nowhere in sight."Lord forgive me." I said and let go of the boy's hand and went over to Luna. I saw figures approaching us and I breathed a sigh of relief as I dived into the cold water.
I saw her falling down the depth of the lake and swam towards her. I grabbed hold of her hand and pulled her while swimming up. I pushed her out of the water panting and rolled her over to the edges of the unbroken ice.
I looked over and saw the pack standing on land a few feet away from us with panic and scornful expressions.
I remembered the boy. Why were they just standing there doing nothing? I struggled to get out of the water. "There's a boy in there!" I cried out loud to them but they ignored me and kept staring at the water. I crawled up the ice and saw a pair of hands pushing the boy out of the water. The poor boy was almost blue.
Then a head popped up too and it was Skye. I felt relieved but my joy was short lived when he gave me a look I'd never seen before. He took the boy he rescued and gradually walked out of the icy lake without a turn.
I held Luna close to me. Her eyes were closed. I lifted her up and walked carefully away from the ice. I pumped her chest a few times and water spluttered out of her mouth but she still didn't open her eyes. I give her the mouth to mouth a few times too and she finally revived. She was very cold. I held her close to my chest in relief. "You scared me so much, Luna," I said placing my head on hers. Her safety was what matters to me.
