Chapter 18: Chapter 18

"Aaahhh!!!" Theodore hissed in pain and grabbed Liara's wrist. A current ran through Liara's body at his touch, but somehow, she controlled her emotion and focused on taking out the poison from his body as much as she could. She knew the poison that was used at the tips of the arrow; after all, that poison was prepared by her grandfather, Logan Haysbert, to kill vampires.

Logan Haysbert and Colton Haysbert were hunters in her family. There were a lot of other relatives in her family who were also hunters but what mattered at that moment was the fact that a hunter under her grandpa or her brother was keeping an eye on her.

'I'm positive that it's brother Colton who would have appointed him because he is the one who can't ignore any information just like that. Just like him…" She thought, looking at her mate, "....my brother was also waiting for the danger to appear in the light.'

She shivered in fear when she realized that her mate had killed one of his hunters. The last thing she wanted was his presence anywhere near the pack because he could sense supernatural creatures. Hell, he could also see the ghost.

Liara pulled her wrist from his grip and started applying the medicines that she had prepared, collecting the herbs in the forest. While she was treating him, she came to know two important things about her mate. The first one was that he was a hybrid. Because if he would have just been a pure vampire, then he would have been dead by then because the poison used in the arrow was capable of burning a vampire into ashes.

She kind of assumed that the moment she sensed him breathing, but what she did know was that his other half was a werewolf. She smelled a wolf scent when he was injured; almost his chest had been burned because of the effect of the poison.

And the second one was that his heart was on the right side of the body, which was a rare case again.

'So, who would have raped whom? A vampire raped a werewolf, OR a werewolf raped a vampire?' She wondered. But at that moment, all she could be wondering because talking about this sensitive topic was something that she was sure that her mate wouldn't like to do.

"That's hurt, mutt." Theodore hissed because, for the first time in his life, he was experiencing the pain of the burn and the worst that he wasn't able to heal.

"I'm… I'm so..sorry." Liara apologized. "I'm tr..trying my best…best not to h..hurt you." She said softly. He looked at her as if she was an alien because he was the one who was rude to her even when she was helping her, and instead of growling back at him, she was apologizing. He must say, as an Alpha wolf, she had great patience because they snap at anyone who even raises their voice at them.

How did he come to know that she was an Alpha female?

Well, by looking at the big size of her wolf.

He watched her applying some paste on his chest carefully. It was making him feel cool all over the area where his skin had gotten burned. He recalled how her cheeks turned red like tomato watching him shirtless. He wanted to smile, but he didn't. At the same time, he knew that he was getting affected by her presence.

"Why did you…." Theodore couldn't complete his question when Liara looked into grey eyes.

"The s..same reason. Why did you stand in front of me?" Liara asked. They soon realized what they were doing, so the next moment, they turned their head in the other direction.

'So, she was settling the score, nothing else.' Theodore thought.

'Obviously, because he is my mate. How could I let him die?' Liara thought.

"I've got to leave now." She spoke after a while. "The poison used in the arrow won't let you heal yourself. So, I… I will bring medicine for you tomorrow… at this place?" She said, more like asked. When he didn't say anything, she felt that Theodore was either not fond of speaking just like her or maybe he wasn't interested in talking to her at all.

"Stay careful." She said for one last time and was about to leave when she heard.

"Thank you for your help."

She didn't turn around to show a smile on her face. "You're welcome, Theodore." With this, she left the cave near the waterfall where she treated her mate's injury. At that moment, both of them were confused by thinking,

'What now?'

Rejection seemed easy while accepting each other would turn their life upside down.

"Caro? Do you remember that I had helped you once six years back when you wanted to know how werewolf recognize their mate?" Liara asked her elder sister, Caroline Gosling, who was mated to Artemis Gosling, was a witch.

"I remember. But why are you talking about that part?" Caroline Gosling asked in confusion.

"And you might remember that I didn't share that conversation with anyone." Liara reminded again, on which Caroline smiled, knowing what was going to going to come next.

"I promise that I won't tell about your mate with anyone," Caroline said. "You can talk to me about him." She encouraged Liara. Liara could share it with her mother as well, but then, she didn't want to take any risk with her father. So, she opted for her seven years older sister, who was no less than a second mother to her.

"What should I do if I find out that my mate is the werewolf's enemy? And he is not… not from a good family background, you know." Liara said in a low tone, as if someone was listening to her.

"What do you want, Lee?" Caroline asked, coming straight to the point. "If you're not sure of this question, then find out that first. And this 'ENEMY' factor doesn't matter when you two will have true feelings toward one another. And about family background… hmm!! I won't like just like any normal father; dad will surely look into that part."

"That's why you have to convince dad in that part. Well, not just you, we all will convince him for that part because it's not in your hand where and in which situation you're born, but it's definitely in our hands, but our future is definitely in our own hands."

"Uhh..mmm," Liara didn't know what to say. So, she just shut her mouth.

"I know you're not someone who chooses an easy path. It also means that a part of your heart is not ready to reject him. So, listen to that part of yours and give yourself some time. There is nothing to hurry about, okay?"

"Hmm,"

"Lee!!"

"Yes!! I'm not going to scare you but if you're going to accept him, then get ready to fight with the whole world for him BUT…." Liara's heartbeat rose when she heard 'BUT.' "....before accepting him, get to know him first. Check him whether that person is even worth fighting for?"

"Okay," Liara nodded her head as if Caroline was in front of her.

"And even though he is an enemy, just trust him." Liara was taken aback, hearing a male voice. But she realized that it was her brother-in-law. Her cheeks flushed, thinking that her BIL was listening to her conversation with her sister. "There is no need to feel shy. I'm like your older brother Calvin whom you can share everything which you want the whole world to know."

Liara giggled at his joke because it was true. Calvin Haysbert couldn't keep any secret to himself.

"I know trusting someone whom you don't know is hard. But if the moon goddess has paired you both, then she might have thought something, right? This trust for him either will teach you an important lesson for life or will give a person for life." Artemis Gosling spoke. He was glad that Liara chose to talk with them instead of hiding things from everyone because, in this way, they would have an idea of what she was doing in her life and in case…. In case she would land into any trouble, then they would be there for her.

"Okay!!"

"Perfect. Keep us updated about everything because in case anything goes wrong, dad will kill us first."

"Hmm"

"Good night, Lee!! Take care of yourself."

"You too."

Disconnecting the call, she wanted to hit her head on the wall. It had been six years since Artemis Gosling became her brother-in-law, and still, all she could speak was, Okay, Hmm, Yes, etc., type a one-word answer. She wondered what she would speak to her mate.

'How do a surgery?'

OR 'the type of nerve in a werewolf's body?'

He hated werewolves, so, obviously, not that topic. She kept thinking about the suggestion that she received and then shook her head to brush that topic for a while. She needed to study.

The next morning, Liara was sleeping when she received a call from her warden.

"Liara, your brother is here to meet you." Hearing this, she quickly sat on the bed by giving a goodbye kiss to her sleep.

"Which…which brother?" Liara's lips trembled with the thought of Colton. The last night, one of the hunters from his group was killed, and the very next morning, he was here.

'Does he already know about me meeting my mate?'

"Colton Haysbert." Listening to this answer, she stopped breathing in fear.
