Chapter 28: Chapter 28

“Damon, are you crazy?! Going to Alpha Cephas’ territory is like walking into your own death. Can’t we sort help?” Megan uttered with worry as they stormed into Damon’s chamber.

“No, we cannot sort for help, Megan! Who do we tell, hun? Father? He will never let us go there. I need to do this alone. I can’t just sit back and watch when Belinda is out there, waiting for me to help her, okay?” Damon muttered under nervousness.

Megan sighed hopelessly and brushed her hair backwards with her hand.

“So what do we do now? They are way stronger than we are.”

“I know. But I’ll go to her tonight.”

“Damon…”

“Megan, Belinda is my mate! I can feel how scared she is right now. I don’t care if I die helping her, okay? She wants me to come to her, and that’s what I’m going to do. I’m going to her tonight, and you’ll help me.”

“But I don’t get one thing. How did he or them manage to get in here to get her? I mean, they can never get into the palace without the guards raising an alarm. Are you sure she didn’t leave herself?”

“No, Megan. Belinda will never leave me. We made promises to ourselves last night that we would stand by each other.”

Megan sighed and bounced her head. “Then if she didn’t leave, and they couldn’t have intruded into the palace, then…”

“Someone from the palace is behind this.” Damon completed her statement.

“But who would want to do that? Only a few people are aware of who she is and where she came from.”

“And are we sure about that? She has quite a number of enemies, Megan.” Damon answered and began to approach the door again.

“Where are you going?” Megan inquired, following behind him.

“To find out who did this to Belinda. I need answers. I need someone to blame and punish for putting her in this kind of situation.”

Damon and Megan headed out of his chamber and they began to trace the road back to Belinda’s chamber to see if they could get any clue about what happened.

Damon kept his eyes on the ground, looking for any sign of Belinda struggling on the sand. ‘I pray I am wrong about this.’

“Da… Damon.” Megan mumbled, and Damon looked at her. She was staring at the ground in awe. Damon rushed up to her and looked too.

He could see the sand all turned up and this was a sign of struggle on the ground.

“It happened here. She was captured here.” Damon muttered within gritted teeth. He looked around trying to figure out how it all happened.

Megan squatted next to him and picked up a bracelet from the ruffled sand.

“This bracelet…” She muttered. Damon looked up and stared at the bracelet in her hand. He clenched his jaws and fists and looked at Megan.

“Yolanda.” He groaned.

“No… it’s not possible, okay?”

“Megan, you gave her that bracelet on her birthday, okay?! She was here.”

Megan began to pant and shook her head. “No… we can’t just jump to conclusions. Yolanda would never hurt Belinda.”

“Then explain how her bracelet is at the crime scene.” Damon added, trying to contain his raging anger.

“Let me talk to her first. I believe this is a coincidence. I’ll come back to you.” Megan uttered and turned to leave.

“Megan…” Damon grabbed her hand, making her stop.

“If Yolanda knows about this, I’m sorry but I won’t let her go unpunished.”

He let go of her hand and stormed off. Megan exhaled hard and headed for Yolanda’s room.

‘Please Yolanda, let this be a mistake. Let this be a coincidence.’ She thought as she recalled how Yolanda spoke about Belinda when they were in the training hall.

“What is with the sad face, Yolanda? We have finally eradicated the enemy, why are you still sad? I can boldly say I slept like a baby last night.” Isla chuckled.

Yolanda sighed and shook her head. “You won’t understand, Isla. What if Princess Megan finds out what we did?”

“She can never find out. It’s impossible. It was done quietly and neatly. I bet Miss Maisie is so proud of us right now. I believe that girl is getting what she deserves now.”

“I don’t know, Isla. I just don’t feel good about it. We should have let Miss Maisie do the dirty work herself. We shouldn’t have intervened… I shouldn’t have.”

“C’mon, Yolanda! What’s with the regret this morning? We both hated her and we did what was right. You were pretty satisfied with what we did last night… Why are you so bothered about it today? What has changed?”

“Princess Megan is worried. She could hardly pay attention to her training this morning.”

“And so what?! All these feelings will die down after a week or two and she will be forgotten. Look at the bright side of this… we have the next Queen of the kingdom as our ally now!” Isla uttered happily.

All of a sudden, Yolanda’s door sprang open and Megan stormed in.

“Princess Megan!” They chorused and hastily stood up from their bed.

“When did you get here?” Yolanda further asked. She could hear her heart thumping against her chest as Megan approached her.

‘Did she hear our conversation?’

Megan’s eyes were filled with tears as she approached them. She stood in front of Yolanda and before saying anything, she smacked her very hard on the face.

“How could you, Yolanda! You… of all people.”

Yolanda held her face in disbelief and stared at Megan blankly. Megan had never hit her before. It was like she was in a nightmare.

Megan looked at Isla who looked super terrified. “You are going to regret this. I promise you. Get out!” Megan yelled at her, and Isla ran out of the room immediately.

Megan looked at Yolanda again and broke into tears. She covered her mouth with her hand and slowly bent down as she wept.

“Megan.” Yolanda called softly, and attempted to move closer to her.

“Don’t! Don’t you dare come close to me!” Megan cried out, making Yolanda stop.

“I’m sorry, Megan. I do regret my actions. I swear on my life.”

Megan scoffed and stood up. “You regret your actions, but Belinda is still gone! She is still in danger! What were you thinking? Didn’t you think of the consequences?! What if the King finds out?!”

“Megan.” Yolanda mumbled and hurriedly moved closer to her. She embraced her before Megan could move away.

Megan fought her way out of her arms and slapped her again.

“I am highly disappointed in you. Three and a half years together and I am just knowing the real you!” Megan spat and charged to the door.

“Megan!” Yolanda called, but Megan didn’t look back. She headed right to Damon’s chamber.

She got into his chamber and met him working out. He was doing pushups. He sprang to his feet when she walked in and advanced towards her.

“And?” He asked. He noticed how red her eyes were, but he paid less attention to it. He needed answers.

“Yolanda is innocent. Isla and Miss Maisie are behind it. Isla put Yolanda’s bracelet there to implicate her, because she knows how close she is to me, and I wouldn’t want to punish her.” Megan explained and sniffed.

“Maisie?” He questioned and Megan bobbed.

“I’m surprised too. Looks like she hated how you were close to Belinda, and she got so angry. I still don’t know how she is related to Alpha Cephas though.”

Damon glared at her for a few minutes, narrowing his gaze at her. ‘Is she hiding something from me?’ He asked himself, as he watched Megan avoiding his gaze.

“So how do we move tonight?” Megan broke the awkward silence and moved away from him.

“Yolanda is innocent?” Damon answered her question with a question.

“Yes, Damon. She is. Now we know who is behind her abduction, we need to plan how to rescue her and then come back to punish them.”

“Ayman will be going with me. He is stronger and faster. I will have better chances of winning the fight if he’s with me.”

“And have you told him about it?”

“He will be here soon. Then I’ll explain everything to him.”

“And he wouldn’t tell father?”

“He kept his mouth shut about yesterday's incident. He should be able to do so now. I will assure him that father won’t know a thing.”

Megan nodded and sighed. “I’ll be going with you.”

“No, Megan. It’s too dangerous. I just need you to help me sneak out at night without being seen.”

“No, Damon. I won’t just sit back and let you put your life at risk. The more support you have, the more chances of you coming back to this palace alive.”

“It’s too risky, Megan.” Damon muttered.

“And have you forgotten that risk is fun? This is Belinda we are talking about. To save her, you need all the help you can get. I won’t back down no matter what you tell me. Belinda is also a sister, remember? I will do anything to get her out of there.” Megan inhaled and exhaled hard after speaking without taking a pause.

Damon heaved a sigh and bounced his head. “Fine. You’re coming too.” He answered, and Megan nodded.

“Prince Damon, Ayman is here to see you.” One of Damon’s guards spoke from outside his door.

“Let him in.” He answered, and he exchanged looks with Megan.

Ayman walked in and gave them a bow. “My Princess… My prince, you sent for me.” He uttered.

“Yes. I need your help. We are invading a territory tonight and you’re coming with us.”
