Chapter 19: Chapter 19
Ava's breath hitched as she turned at the sound of Bryan's voice, her heart skipping a beat. The sight before her caught her off guard, leaving her momentarily speechless. Bryan stood there, exuding an air of confidence and sophistication that left her momentarily stunned.
Her eyes widened, instinctively taking in every detail of his appearance. The navy blue suit accentuated his broad shoulders, the fabric impeccably tailored to fit his frame. Her gaze traced the crisp lines of his shirt, the burgundy silk tie adding a touch of understated elegance.
" Holy moly, " she thought, her inner voice momentarily betraying her composed exterior. Ava found herself unabashedly admiring Bryan, her eyes lingering on him from head to toe. The man standing before her appeared nothing short of devilishly gorgeous.
Her heart raced as she tried to regain her composure, a subtle flush creeping up her cheeks. She averted her gaze, momentarily flustered by the unexpected rush of admiration she felt for her colleague.
Bryan approached her desk, a warm smile gracing his lips. " Good morning, Ava. How's your day going so far? "
Ava cleared her throat, her voice betraying a hint of nervousness. " Good morning, Bryan. It's... it's been good. " She managed a smile, attempting to conceal the sudden flutter in her chest.
Their eyes met, a subtle understanding passing between them. Ava couldn't help but notice the spark in Bryan's eyes, a glimmer of something she couldn't quite decipher.

The clock chimed noon, marking the midday break at the office. Bryan stood by Ava's desk, a friendly smile gracing his features as he extended the invitation.
" Ava, would you like to join me for lunch? " Bryan's voice was warm, his eyes holding a genuine invitation.
Ava's heart fluttered at the unexpected offer, her mind momentarily racing with conflicting thoughts. She admired Bryan, both as her boss and a person, but the sudden invitation caught her off guard.
" Oh, um, that's really nice of you, Bryan, " Ava replied, her voice tinged with a hint of hesitation. Her eyes darted momentarily towards her computer screen, an attempt to mask her uncertainty.
Bryan waited patiently, his gaze conveying a sense of understanding. " It's just a casual lunch, nothing too formal. I thought it might be nice to grab a bite and chat outside of the office for a change. "
Ava's mind raced with a whirlwind of thoughts. She admired Bryan's demeanor, his charm, and the undeniable connection she felt whenever they interacted. But a sense of apprehension crept in, an unfamiliar hesitation she couldn't quite articulate.
" I appreciate the offer, Bryan, " Ava began, her voice measured, " but I have some pending work I need to finish up during the lunch break "
" Should we make it a dinner.... " He started to say before Ava cut in abruptly.
" Mr Hayes, I'll think about it but as you can see now, I'm quite busy so if you'll excuse me " She said said firmly, and her tone was guarded.
Bryan nodded, a flicker of disappointment fleeting across his eyes before he masked it with a gracious smile. " Of course, no problem at all. Another time, perhaps. " He wondered if she was crazy because she was smiling with him some minutes ago and all of a sudden, she had switched, answering him in a cold voice.
He shuddered slightly. She was one scary woman, he thought. But why did it only excite him more, he asked no one in particular. That's because you're sexually frustrated man, you need to release in a hole soon or you'll die of starved sex, his inner voice replied. When was the last time he had sex? He couldn't remember. The pain of losing Rachel had kept him celibate and he didn't know anyone could sparkle the fire of sexual urge in him again until he met Ava.
As he walked away, Ava's mind was a whirlwind of conflicting emotions. She couldn't deny the flutter in her chest at his invitation, yet an unexplainable hesitation held her back from accepting. Her gaze lingered on Bryan's retreating figure, a mix of curiosity and uncertainty swirling within her.
The rest of the afternoon passed in a blur for Ava. Her mind wandered, replaying the moment Bryan invited her to lunch. She couldn't shake off the lingering sense of regret for turning him down, yet a nagging doubt lingered, a fear of crossing a line that she couldn't quite define.
The clock struck the end of the workday, and Ava gathered her belongings, her thoughts still muddled with the earlier encounter. As she prepared to leave, she caught a glimpse of Bryan at the exit, exchanging pleasantries with a few colleagues.
Their eyes briefly met, and for a moment, Ava thought she saw a subtle twinkle in Bryan's gaze. She hesitated, a fleeting urge to call out to him and reconsider his lunch offer, but uncertainty held her back. She shook her head, there was no way he'd stare at her that way. Not after how she embarrassed him, she thought.
" Ava, what have you done? " She asked herself. He was the boss for f*ck's sake! How could she turn him down??
With a sigh, she made her way out of the office, the weight of her decision weighing heavily on her mind. The echo of Bryan's invitation lingered, a silent regret mingled with an unspoken desire for a second chance.

Ava made her way home, the weight of her decision lingering in her thoughts. She couldn't shake off the feeling that she might have been too hasty in declining Bryan's lunch invitation. As she entered her apartment, the sight of the untidy space heightened her restlessness.
With a heavy sigh, she tossed her bag onto the couch, her mind still preoccupied with the image of Bryan's disappointed expression. His invitation replayed in her mind like a persistent melody, each note of regret resonating louder than the last.
