Chapter 50: Chapter 50
"Remus," The tech guy immediately turned his swivel chair to face Maeve who just entered his dark office.
"Tss. Put the lights on, asshole."
"You're now a married woman and raising a three-year-old daughter but still foul-mouthed as ever." Remus said as he clicked the control of lights under his desk.
"Wow. This looks like a pig pen," Maeve said as she looked around the messy office with a disgusted face.
"Does Celeste even knew you work like this?" She asked as she tossed the unknown items seated at his couch that used to be there for guests.
"Yah! I thought your husband's the manipulator! How did you know about my girlfriend?!" Remus asked with an astonished and unbelieving expression.
"Now I understand why you had to keep the lights off. This is gross, Remus." She complained, changing the subject as she kick away some chords that were scattered on the floor.
"Never heard anywhere that this is the right way of saying thank you," he said sarcastically as he started to tidy up his office a bit.
"My work place isn't always like this! I was just too busy lately, thanks to this certain Mrs. Thorne who keeps on nagging me." Maeve just rolled her eyes and took out the white envelope from her purse.
"What is this?" Remus asked after he went back to his seat. He took the envelope from Maeve's hand.
"Wow. You sure are the perfect pair for September." Remus muttered as he read the contents of the document.
"I know. Now, act on it. I wanted to get back to my husband as soon as possible," she said seriously before she stood up and walked towards the door.
She was only a few steps away from the door when Remus called her name. She stopped and turned around, thinking that it was something related to the plan she had made.
"It was me." He said that immediately confused Maeve.
"It's you what?"
"I was the one behind the sudden marriage." Maeve's eyes almost widened and she even took a step back in surprised.
"You what?"
"I am the one who set up your marriage." The tech guy confessed.
Maeve had to breath deeply for a few seconds to calm her nerves before she crossed her arms and faced Remus with a stern face.
"Why would you do that?"
"I owe my life to September and I knew how lonely he was. He was never interested with anyone not until he found you. And I knew you too. I know your story and I knew that you'll both hit it, which you actually did. So I set up, I wasn't supposed to literally file it but I changed my mind when I saw how you both looked at each other." Remus turned his swivel chair to face her.
"Even when you keep on telling him that you hated him, you still care. And I thought, why not let two lonely soul stay together?"
"I know it was not a wise move for me to meddle with your business but you are the only one who can tame that man, Maeve. And he was the only one who can melt your heart. And you know that," Maeve was at a lost of words after her friend said that.
After hearing that he was actually the one behind the sudden marriage, she had a lot of curse words running around her mind but after those words were said? All of those curse words flew out of the window.
Because he's right.
She tamed September and he melted her frozen heart. Her heart that she thought would never love.
She took a deep breath and closed her eyes tightly. She counted one to three slowly to make sure she's in full control of her emotions.
"You're right but I won't thank you for that. You're still an asshole for meddling with our lives." She said which made Remus chuckled.
"I never asked you to," he said, still chuckling.
"Get ready then. The queen must lead a war tomorrow. Ready your sword and armor," he said with a knowing smile before he turned around to face his computer once again.
The conference room was buzzing with people talking about the news they just received.
The whole empire is now handled by another person.
Someone actually succeeded in taking the throne away from the manipulator king, September Thorne!
Just how great was that person to be able to do such a difficult task?
The room immediately fell into complete silence at the door opened and Remus, followed by Chris Johns entered the conference room. The people inside had their forehead creased upon seeing the familiar faces.
Were this two the one's who took over the empire?
But everyone gasped when they heard the sounds of high heels hitting the tiled floor, they all looked back at the door and immediately saw no other than September Thorne's wife, Maeve Miller!
She confidently walked towards September's seat and sat down not minding the older people who was still standing in shock.
"You can all take your seats," she ordered and everyone absentmindedly followed.
Remus hid his smirk as he watched the scene unfold.
"As you can see, September would not be around anymore. And I would be the one to replaced him," she then stood up, used both of her were presses on the table top for support as she stared at each and everyone's eyes.
"And my stay here would mean a lot. And I mean really lots. But first off..." She said, deliberately pausing to keep her audience hanging and to cause for fear from them.
After a while, Maeve snirked menacingly before getting the brown envelop Remus was holding behind her.
"Let's first settle the new sets of board members," she said grinning as she directed everyone's gaze on the door which Chris' just opened.
Seven people entered the conference hall and everyone's jaw dropped when they realized who these people were.
