Chapter 37: Chapter 37

"Hello, your name's Fiona, right?" Celeste asked with a careful voice as she leveled down her head to face the child who was hiding behind Maeve.

Fiona was still wearing her hospital clothes. Eversince she woke up, she keeps on clinging and hanging around Maeve.

She was even afraid of the doctors whenever they come inside her room to check her condition. The child would just either ran back and hide from Maeve's back or would come crying into September's arms. Aside from them two, the child wouldn't let anyone touch her.

"It's okay, Fiona. She's your Aunt Celeste," September introduced as he slowly pulled the child away from his wife's back.

Celeste held out her hand for Fiona to reached out. The child looked up to stare at Maeve who has a soft expression on her face before nodding.

She had already talked to the child about their situation last night. Fiona's a smart girl, she immediately understood what this is all about.

Fiona sighed and with trembling hands, her little palms landed on Celeste's. The lawyer smiled at the child before she squeezed those tiny hands a bit.

"I'll be presenting you to court today. We'll make people see how much you suffered in the hands of that woman and show them that September and Maeve should be your parents soon." Fiona blinked a few times before she turned around and faced the couple behind her.

"You're gonna be my Mommy and Daddy?" The kid asked innocently.

Maeve heaved out a sighed as she slouched a bit in front of the child and touched Fiona's cheeks.

"Yes. Would you like that?" She asked gently.

Suddenly, Fiona's lips parted for a while before Maeve saw her biting her lips as her shoulders tremble. She immediately got worried.

"Hey, what's wrong?"

"Fiona wouldn't be alone again?" Maeve's heart faltered when she heard the child's voice broke.

"Yes, Fiona. You wouldn't be alone again. " Maeve assured the child before the child took small steps towards her and hugged her. She readily welcomed the embrace and reciprocated the warmth the child was giving her.

"These are medical results of Fiona Amster." Celeste showed scanned copies of Fiona's tests results.

"The results shows that the child was poorly nourished and that her body became weak after all those weeks of being under the care of the accused." She stated before she directed her gaze to her opponents side, where Tracy and her lawyer was seated.

"The child was deprived of food and was force to do gym and yoga sessions just to please the accused. The victim was also starting to show some symptoms of PTSD due from the trauma inflicted by the accused. Furthermore, physical tests of the child also showed signs of domestic violence. If this is how a parent should treat their children, what would be the future of this young generations?" Celeste paused a bit before her eyes wandered around the whole court, silently passing the message of her words.

"I rest my case," she said after a while of silence filled the court room. She then went back to her side where Maeve, September and Fiona were seated.

The trial went as how Celeste had predicted. Tracy Amster was proven not capable of raising Fiona or any other child and was immediately sent to a mental institution for rehab, it turned out that the woman in question was indulging herself with drugs.

The adoption paper for Fiona was now currently on progress, too.

"Long time no see, Fiona!" Sister Helen greeted as soon as Fiona set foot inside the orphanage. Maeve figured that it would be good for her to have some kids around her for a while so she decided to take a day off of work to accompany the kid to the orphanage.

"Where's September?" Sister Helen asked after Fiona was taken away by the other children to play.

"He had an important meeting to attend today so he can't come with us, but he'll be the one to fetch us later." Maeve answered with a smile.

The nun stared at the beautiful woman in front of her and silently compared it to the cunning woman who came here months ago to ask for information about September Thorne.

The face looks the same but her aura seems more gentle today.

"You looked good, hija."

"Sister?" Maeve asked, puzzled with the nun's bizarre comment.

"Marriage and parenthood looks good on you." Maeve's lips parted after hearing the nun's comment.

Lately, she had been focusing on taking care of September and Fiona. Although she still works, she usually just brings Fiona to work since the child wouldn't like being left alone with a stranger, sometimes the child goes with September as well.

A first, they were totally clueless how to do things. It wasn't just the two of them now, they now have a daughter to take care of! But no matter how tiring it was, the adjustments done and changes that occurs, everything seems to be so worth it whenever they see Fiona slowly gaining her bubbly self again. Everytime she smiles at them and hugged them, it feels like they can give her the world.

"You seem happy. Your smile was so different from the girl who came here months ago to confirm if September Thorne really stayed here."

"I am happy, sister." She answered in a low voice before she gaze back at her daughter who was now running around with the other children.

"I have never been this happy before, sister. I'm too contented and happy that it scares me." She admitted with a smile.

"What if one day, destiny decided that she wanted to play with me again and take away everything?" She turned to the nun once again.

"Sister, my family's my everything now. What would I do if they would be taken away from me?"

"We're happy for now. Yes we are. But until when? I was afraid to sleep every night. I was scared that I might woke up the next day and all of these were just a dream. That I don't have September and Fiona in my life."
