Chapter 38: Chapter 38

"Daddy!" September's tired face immediately brightened as he was welcomed with an excited shriek of his daughter.

Fiona jumped over her dad who immediately caught her. Maeve who was busy preparing for dinner can hear the child's giggles. A warm smile made it's way on her lips as she stir the sauce of the carbonara she was preparing.

"Hey, hon." September greeted as a kiss landed on her face. She adjusted the heat of the stove to low heat before she turned around to face her husband.

"Long day?" She asked as she softly caressed his cheeks. September's eyes automatically closed to feel the sensation.

"Hmm. Although Chris had attended majority of my meetings, mine was still so fully packed," he said before he rested his head on the crook of her neck.

"You should take a warm bath and change into comfortable clothes. The foods almost ready," she said while gently caressing the back of his head.

"Three minutes..." He pleaded as he circled his arms around her waist, pulling her closer to his body.

Maeve played with his hair as they enjoy the silence between them.

"Me too!" September immediately felt Fiona's small body clinging to his right leg. Maeve and September both laughed before September let go of Maeve and bend over a little to carry Fiona in his arms.

The trio ate their dinner heartily and filled the dining area with laughter and stories about how their day went.

It was September's turn to tucked Fiona to bed tonight. Maeve went out of the shower and saw that the bed was still untouched, her husband was still probably at Fiona's room.

She went out of their room and was about to open their daughter's room when she heard the two talking.

"Daddy, Mommy doesn't love you?" She heard Fiona asked.

"Why you asked?"

"I've been hearing you say you love her but I never heard her say that back to you." Maeve was dumbfounded after hearing those words.

She waited for September's response but she didn't heard anything. He just told Fiona to sleep followed by his soft humming of a lullaby.

Maeve went back to their room, disheartened.

A little while later, September entered their room and laid beside her. But unlike the previous nights he settled with a gap between them.

This had made Maeve feel even more worse.

Does she really need to say it? Aren't actions supposed to speak louder than words?

"September..." She called out.

"Hmm?"

"Are you mad?"

"Why would I be mad?" September asked back.

"Why are you so far then? Scoot back a bit please?" September remained still for awhile before he sighed and scooted closer to her. She immediately snuggled inside his arms.

This place was warmer than any blanket.

"Good night," she whispered before she closed her eyes and eventually fell asleep.

But while she was on the boat of her dreamland, September was wide awake staring at her peaceful face.

His mind keeps coming back to Fiona's question.

Does Maeve love him? The last time they talked about themselves was when she told him she's falling. But after that... there's nothing.

He knew he told her he was willing to wait. But when Fiona asked that question, he wasn't able to answer. She makes him feel like she does love him, but she was really like that from the start.

How would he know if he was way too out of the likezone?

The next morning, the breakfast of the trio was very different from their past breakfasts.

"I'll be going with Daddy today?" Fiona asked, breaking the tension in the table.

"Yes, baby." September answered with a small smile.

Maeve was watching his every move. She thought it would be over last night but the subtle cold shoulder was more evident today.

She sighed while reading some papers. She couldn't understand any of it's contents and her mind keeps going back with the cold shoulder September was giving her.

She's not used to it.

She finally gave up when she tried to read the paper for the fifth time and she still can't understand anything.

She closed her eyes as she rested her back on her chair. Good thing Fiona was now with September or else she wouldn't be able to take care of her at this state.

"Okay. This is enough." She said as soon as she opened her eyes.

She stood up and gathered her things, her assistant tried to stop her but she just dismissively told her to cancel all her meetings today. She wouldn't be able to concentrate to any of it anyway.

There's no way she'll let this day passed without settling the score between her and her husband.

She immediately rode her car and started driving out of the building when she dialled Chris' number.

Chris Johns was hired as September's assistant. It takes a load of work from Falcon and made her husband's work easier since Chris can join meetings on his behalf.

"Hello? This is Chris--"

"Cut the bullshit. Is September around?"

"Maeve? Yes. He's on his office. Why?"

"Where's Fiona?" She asked instead.

"She's playing inside his office." He answered.

"Great. Cancel all of September's appointments for today and please take care of Fiona for awhile. You can hand her over to Falcon later on." She ordered.

Chris was about to say something but the call was already cut off. He just heaved a deep sigh and shook his head before he followed the lady-boss' orders.

Chris was no longer on his table when Maeve arrived at September's office. She hastily opened the doors of his office, making him looked up with a startled expression on his face.

He wasn't expecting for his wife to show up today. Chris also took out Fiona to eat in a nearby ice cream parlor, so they were alone inside his office.

"What are you doing here?" He asked without thinking.

Maeve's forehead creased with his question.

Is she not allowed to come here anymore?

She quickly shook her head to eliminate all those negativities and uncertainties running on her mind. She just took a deep breath and stared directly at September's eyes.

"I love you," she confessed with all of her heart.
