Chapter 31: Chapter 31

"Wow! Are you sure you've been kidnapped?" Hillary asked while we settle down.

It's been three days since I was supposedly 'rescued'. And my sister insisted on seeing me today so I agreed to have lunch with her on a cafe near my office.

"You're absolutely glowing! You looked more like someone who just came from a honeymoon than a tragic event as being kidnapped. What was that? Was your kidnapper good-looking or what?"

Maeve laughed and smiled as September's face resurfaced on her mind. Hillary's eyes went wide after seeing her actions.

"What the hell?" She cursed as she stared at her supposedly cold sister who's now acting like a silly highschooler who just remembered her crush.

"Well, he's handsome." Hillary covered her mouth in shocked with her response.

"Oh my God! What happened to you? Did they hit your head or something?" Hillary asked. She was seriously worried, her sister wouldn't usually talk like this at all. But Maeve just laughed her off and called the waiter to give their orders.

"Seriously sis, you don't looked like a kidnapped victim. Was the kidnapper that handsome?"

"Hmm," Maeve answered with a nod.

"You're husband's gonna kill someone if he hears you." Hillary said mortified. And as if on cue, Maeve's phone rang, and because it was placed beside her, Hillary immediately saw that it was September who was calling.

"Speak of the devil," she muttered followed by shaking of her head.

She was busy looking around as Maeve was talking to her husband. But something caught her eyes.

Her lips then crooked into a smile as she stare at the gold patterned bond at her sister's finger.

"Hmm. I'll dropped by the grocery later after we ate. What do you want for dinner?" Maeve asked September who called to asked her where she was.

In the past she would find it infuriating that he constantly calls to check for her whereabouts. But lately, she understood that it was just September's way of hearing her voice. It's cheesy but it makes her feel loved.

"Nothing specific comes into mind. Anything you cook is delicious anyway." He said as he transferred the phone from one ear to another.

"Really?" Maeve asked with a smile.

"Were you actually flirting with your husband in front of me?" Hillary asked in disbelief. Maeve rolled her eyes on him and just reminded September to eat before she ended the call.

"Wow. You actually looked and sound like a real wife now. You can even beat my mom into that role." Hillary said as their food was being serve.

"Was that a compliment? But you're mom doesn't act like a wife though." She said as she set aside the take outs she ordered for September.

"Well, that's true." Hillary agreed, not taking her sister's words to heart since she really thinks the same.

Her mom sometimes acts... scratch that her mom was a total immature brat. She wanted everything to go according to her will. One of the reasons why she left their home early.

"But I can see you're wearing a ring now. It wasn't there before that kidnapping stunt." She pointed out, suspicions arousing her mind. She just remembered that her brother-in-law was actually the great manipulator. She forgot about that for a while.

"Well... I'm the wife if the city's great manipulator." Maeve secretly whispered followed by a playful wink. And just that alone, Hillary had concluded what trully happened.

"Well, that explains the glow. Am I expecting babies running around the house soon?"

"Of course not!" Maeve immediately answered as she felt the gushed of heat of her face.

"Wow. You're blushing." Hillary teased as she laughed while watching her sister's embarrassed state. This was a rare sight to see.

Maeve Miller was actually a very composed and confident woman. Seeing her looking so shy was a fresh sight.

"Stop it and just eat. I had to go to buy some groceries after this." Maeve said trying to stop her sister's relentlessly teasing.

"Wifey duties eh?" Hillary said as she continued tormenting her sister while eating.

"Shut up." Maeve hissed as they consume their foods.

When they're out of the cafe, she called out one of the guards her husband had set for her and asked him to give it to September. The latter immediately heeded her orders while reminding his team to keep an eye to the boss until he came back.

"Wow. You're own set of bodyguards?" Hillary asked as she fixes her seatbelt. She purposely road a taxi earlier to hitch a ride from her sister.

Maeve just shrugged her shoulders before driving to the supermarket.

"You make your husband eat all these weeds?" Hillary asked in disbelief as she scanned the contents of Maeve's pushcart.

"That's vegetables princess." Maeve smirked before she made her way to the meat section.

She was just about to passed through the beverage section when someone bumps into her from her back. When she looked back, she immediately slouched to help the child rise from the ground.

"Hey are you alright---Fiona?" Maeve was surprised to see the kid around here. She got thinner but she was wearing a very fashionable outfit.

"Maeve!" The almost five year old kid immediately wrapped her small arms around her neck and cried.

She stood up properly as she tries to comfort and coax the child.

"Shh... It's alright. Were you scared? Are you lost? Who's with you?" She asked as she gently soothe the child by drawing circles on her back.

"Maeve..."

"Hmm?"

"I don't---"

"Fiona!" She felt the child's hold on her tightened as a woman in mid-thirties came.

"What are you doing?! Why do you have my daughter?!" The woman shouted earning some attention from the crowd.

"I'm sorry, Ma'am. Fiona just bumped into me and we happen to know each other from the orphanage--"

"Give me my daughter!" The woman said as she hastily took Fiona from her arms. Her forehead creased when she felt the child's lingering hold on her.

The woman shows no carefulness with the way she carries the child which made Maeve uneasy.

"Ma'am--"

"You shouldn't do that. Carrying someone else's child!" The woman said before she walked away carrying a silently crying Fiona in her arms.

Maeve stared at the retreating back of the woman. She was really bothered with the expression Fiona was showing.

"Hey, what is it?" Her attention was dragged back by her sister who just came with a pushcart filled with sweets and instant meals. She just shook her head and continued walking, her mind still wandering off.
