Chapter 30: Chapter 30

"You're a stupid asshole, September! She totally got you wrapped around her fingers." September just smirked at her words.

"Who exactly is your enemy?" Maeve asked him in confusion.

"One moment you've been badmouthing my husband, calling him names and all and now, you're worried about me fooling him? Who exactly do you want to fight with?" She asked with her arms crossed in front of her chest.

"September Thorne destroyed my foster parent's company---"

"Ohh..." Maeve interrupted before she and September exchange knowing looks.

"I see... Was that the reason why you want to rip us apart? To get revenge from him?" She then sighed as if pitying him. Chris looked at her with forehead creasing.

"Well, you kidnapped the true culprit for that." She confessed while resting her head on September's arm as she stared boredly at the guy in front of her.

"What do you mean?"

"I'm the one who did that to your company."

"Why would you even do that? Stop covering for your devil husband--" he trailed off when Maeve started walking towards her. The aura she was giving emits intimidation and it's working on him!

He can feel the hair behind his neck stand with her every step. When she slouched in front of him, her eyes were sharp and cold. No signs of empathy and mercy are visible with those pair of brown orbs.

"I was the one who did it." She said every word with emphasis.

"Why? Because he doesn't know how to respect women. I needed to show him that woman should never be underestimated. I wasn't aware that he had raised a spawn of his kind too."

"Just because you were insulted, you knocked out a company that he had been working on for years?!" He said a little bit emotional after his adopted father's sad face resurfaced in his mind.

"Wow. I can't believe that traitor can raise a loyal dog." She said as she shook her head repeatedly before she stood up and look down on him. He waa pinned down by September's men when he tried to grab someone's gun.

"Okay. Let me stain your father's image a bit." She said.

"Your father is a misogynistic pig who did nothing but to dragged down his female colleagues. And for your information, he didn't just insulted me, he stole billions of funds in my company which he used to build up your so-called hard earned empire." Chris'eyes widened after hearing those words.

"No... That's not true! He wouldn't do such a thing!" He defended.

"Really?" Maeve asked as a mocking smile appeared on her face.

"Well, believe what you want to believe but don't say I warned you about him. Soon, you'll realize how much of a fool you are for defending someone like Mr. Johns." She said with a straight face before she turned around and face September who watching her the whole time.

"Let him go and see for himself how idiotic he is for almost worshipping some type of a demon." She said before she walked out of that room, leaving all the guys behind.

"You heard that?" September asked as he passed his gun to Falcon.

"Send that asshole back to his father's house and let him see who he was protecting." He said before he left the room to search for his wife.

Chris Johns was taken out of the city. He was sent knocking to his father's doors.

"Sir..." He muttered as he stared at his father figure, who was now staring at him with forehead creasing. The old man was topless and a woman almost his age had her arms wrapped around the old man.

"What are you doing here?" The old man asked in a sharp tone.

"September Thorne sent me---"

"That man again?! I told you to fucking stop chasing that man! Now, you're sent back here, who would stay in the city to provide for me here?!" Chris' eyes widened in disbelief.

He actually don't have any problems with providing for him since he almost owe his life to this old man. But... Can't he even ask if he's alright?

His arm that was shot was now covered with bandage and it was very obvious to the eyes that he was injured. Could he not a care a bit and asked him what happened?

"He shot me..." He said with his last straw of hope. All the words Maeve had told her haven't been proved yet but this action alone, shows how selfish this man is.

Even a dog who lived with a cat his whole life would develop affection and protectiveness over it. But this man, this man whom he lived for so long, cares more about how he could provide for him?

"He could've just killed you! What used of you if you can't even provide me my needs?!" The old man said in rage. He mindlessly pushed the young woman and faced him with both of his arms on each side of his waist.

"Now he sent you here and you're just another mouth to feed---"

"No." He said cutting off the words of the old man.

"They sent me here to see this."

"See what?"

"See how blind I was." He said looking down.

"I had been trying to get revenge for you. I really feel bad that you lost your business in a snap but now I know..." He looked up and stared directly at the eyes of the man who raised him.

"It wasn't your hard work." He said.

"All you did was play with women and spend money lavishly! You stole money from somebody's company and make it seems like it came from yours! I was a fool for idolizing you! I was a fool!" Chris fell on the ground as Mr. Johns punched him on his face.

"You ungrateful bastard---" he was about to kick Chris when he was suddenly held by the arms. When he looked back he saw men wearing black uniforms and when he directed his gaze back at Chris, Falcon was already helping him stand from the ground.

"Enough of this drama. Let's go back to the city." Falcon told Chris.

The latter took one last glance at the man who he thought was his only family before he sighed and nodded at Falcon.

Meanwhile, September found Maeve seated on the passenger seat of his car. She seems to be in a deep thought.

"What's wrong?" He asked worriedly. Maeve turned to him and shook her head.

"It's nothing."

"Maeve..." He called out in a warning voice. He doesn't like her keeping things from him especially when it's obviously disturbing her.

"I just... Feel sorry for him. And I... He kinda reminds me of you. Like him, you're an orphan too. He just... I don't know. I just keep on thinking that what if you were on his position---"

"Shhh... I already have you so I already have my family here. Don't worry. I already prepared something for him." September said as he pulled her close for an embrace.
