Chapter 24: Chapter 24
"Answer the call." September ordered Gregorio as he stare at him with eyes full of warning.
Gregorio's phone is on top of the table in between them, ringing. The screen says that it was a certain 'Client X'.
"Answer. It."
Gregorio hesitantly lifted his hands to take his phone from the table.
"One wrong word and you're done." September warned before gesturing him to answer the call. Gregorio had to gulped real hard to calm his nerves before he answered the call.
"What happened? Did you get her?" A manly voice asked.
"Yes, sir. We got her."
"But you haven't come to the place I set up for you?" The guy from the other line asked. Gregorio's eyes flew back at September who waa staring at him as he talked with the mastermind of this kidnapping.
"Some of the bitch's bodyguards caught up so we needed to change our destination."
"Is that so? So she had her own guards or was it September's men?"
"I bet it was her husband's. They're wearing the same uniform of those men with them in the venue." The guy from the other line chuckled.
"That guy can really love, eh? So whipped. Alright. Standby for now and wait for further instructions. Make sure to keep an eye on that woman. That one is a smart ass, too." Gregorio scolded the man in his mind. He could've warned them earlier! Then, they wouldn't end up being held as hostage here.
"Yes, sir." Was all he can say before the call got disconnected.
September's eyes looked past Gregorio, towards the group behind him, silently asking if they had located the caller.
"We did, sir. But he made the call inside the mall so there's no way to track him directly." One of the men reported.
"But we were certain that the voice wasn't edited. It was indeed a man." Remus, the guy facing a laptop butted in.
"That's good enough." September said as he stood up and took Gregorio's phone from the table. He threw it towards Remus direction and the latter caught it with no effort and without even looking.
Gregorio and his company's eyes widened with the scene.
Just what type of people are they?!
"You take care of that." September ordered to Remus who's eyes remained on his laptop.
"Sure." Remus answered half-heartedly as he put the phone beside his laptop.
"Go and have those ewwy-cuddles with your wife." He added with a disgusted face.
"Remus..." September called out in a warning voice, but Remus just rolled his eyes and gestured for his boss to leave.
September shook his head and just proceed to his plan of leaving. If only Remus is not good with his work, he had been long out of the city with this attitude of him. He mostly gets into September's temper like a little brother would do to his older brother.
Remus was just a rebel sixteen year old drop-out when September found him and groomed him into who he was today. A twenty-three year old computer expert, and a top hacker.
"Falcon," The butler immediately showed himself as soon as he heard September called out to him.
"Remus---"
"Got it, sir." Falcon answered, immediately understanding the context of the situation.
"Good. Where's my wife?"
"Madame was left in the entertainment room, sir." September walked past his butler. But when he was about to take a turn to head to the entertainment room where his wife was currently in, he stopped on his tracks.
"Thank you for protecting my wife." He said solemnly but sincerely before finally leaving Falcon amused.
When September entered the entertainment room, he immediately heard the sounds coming from the arcade machines. Looked like his wife busied herself playing.
He was about to call out to her when he spotted her napping on the leather couch in the middle of the room. A game controller on her hands and she's in a very uncomfortable position.
He silently sighed before he walked towards her and carefully lifted her.
"Hmm... September?" She mumbled half asleep.
"Yes, hon. It's me." He answered as he kissed the top of her head.
"Where are we going?" She asked as she clung her arms on his neck to help carry her easier.
"We'll be going home." He whispered.
"Home..." She mumbled sleepily as she buried her face on his neck. September had to paused for a while to calm his nerves with her sudden attack.
"Geez, hon. You'll be the death of me." He whispered before he took a deep breath and went on his way out of the room.
"September!" Maeve woke up hearing loud voices. And a distinct one she immediately recognized. She opened her eyes slowly and her eyes was greeted by the scene of her husband, sleeping peacefully.
"September Thorne! Come down! How can you sleep peacefully while my daughter's missing!" Maeve got distracted after hearing her father's shouts and some voices that reprimands the old man for causing a scene.
She was about to get up from the bed when September's arms held her waist and pulled her back to bed.
"Don't go." He said, eyes still closed.
"But---"
"Sleep some more. I'll go meet him." He said as a soft kiss landed on her forehead before he got out of the bed and headed to their bathroom.
Maeve tried to go back to sleep, but that was just plain impossible with her father shouting like a mad man. She hastily sat up on their bed and glared at the door as if she was looking straight at her father.
"Wow! The king has awakened!" Mason Smith exclaimed sarcastically as he saw her son-in-law walking down the stairs. He once again struggled to free himself from the hold of two men but to no avail, he was left staring at September, taking a seat on the living room, facing him.
"How can you sleep so tight while my daughter is missing?!" Mason started once again.
"What kind of a husband are you? You keep on saying that you wanted my daughter, but now, she's missing and you're not doing anything!" September stared at his idiotic father-in-law spatting nonsense in front of him. When he finally started panting because of too much shouting and struggling from the hold of his security, he stood up and walked to him.
"You care now, huh? You willingly sold your daughter in exchange of your own freedom. Do you expect me to believe that you actually care for her? What now? Are you afraid I'll send you out of the city because she's gone?" Mason wanted to run away at that moment. But he had to toughen up and show this disrespectful son-in-law of his, that he too, should be respected.
"Don't worry I can send you away even if she's here. And you'll never hear a word of opposition from my wife's lips." September whispered before Mason could even open his mouth speak.
