Chapter 22: Chapter 22

A week before the MBC's Anniversary Celebration.

"Hon..." Maeve automatically turned around to face September briefly before she returned her gaze back at the stove where she was cooking their dinner.

She had long been accustomed to this endearment of his and now it just sounded so natural to her.

"Hmm?" She hummed in question when September didn't spoke after calling out to her. She stirred the food one more time before she adjusted the fire and covered the pot to let the food boil for a while. She then walked back to the high chairs by the kitchen counters where her husband was seated.

"What is it?" She inquired as she sat at the high chair next to him.

September sighed as he stared at his wife who was now staring back at him expectantly. He was torn whether he should tell her the truth to keep her safe or to just keep her in the dark.

"Hey... What's wrong?" Maeve asked worriedly when he still wasn't saying anything.

"Maeve..." He finally called out.

"Hmm?"

"Do you... Do you trust me?" Maeve who was slightly leaning towards him leaned back a bit and rested her back on the chair.

"Why would you ask that?" She asked back. September bit his bottom lip as he contemplated whether he should go for it or not.

The first month of their marriage was actually doing better than he thought it would be. He was expecting for a cold shoulder from her or some sorts of that but it wasn't. It was far from that. They were actually pretty compatible.

Their relationship also warmed up a bit. They now talk about random things. She let's him cuddle her to sleep, and she had been caring for him, too. Cooking him meals, be it for breakfast, lunch or dinner, she prepares it for him. She also had this habit of preparing the clothes she wanted him to wear for the day. And he liked every bit of it. No, he loves every bit of it!

But can he risk all those improvement digging up the issue of their forged marriage?

"September?" She called out after watching him space out for a while.

"Maeve..." He called out once again before he sighed with his eyes closed tightly.

"About the marriage certificate--"

"I know." September opened his eyes in surprise after his wife cut him off.

"W-what d-do... What do you mean you know?" He asked, initially stuttering before he was able to grasp her words well.

Maeve stared at him for a while before she used her fingers to combed back her hair.

"I know it wasn't you." She repeated.

"How did you know?" She smiled at that question. There's no way she'll reveal who her informant is.

"I have my ways." She said with a mysterious smile. She leaned back towards him again and rested her head on his shoulder.

September's heart hammered with the affectionate gesture.

"I was actually waiting for you to spill it. Took you long enough, though." She said while busying herself with his fingers.

"I was afraid you'll be mad at me again. Or that you would think that I was lying or something."

"Well, yeah. I'd probably think that way if I didn't know." She honestly responded.

"So... What made you tell me?" She asked, distracted. Her eyes and hands were preoccupied with his hands. She was wondering how can man like him have such pretty fingers. Yes, his palm felt a bit rough and calloused, but it looked good. The hell! How was that even possible?!

"I want us to be prepared." Maeve's eyes finally left his hands to faced him.

"Prepared for what?"

"I think something big might happen on the day of the anniversary celebration." He started.

"Was it something bad or good?" She inquired.

"No idea. That's why I wanted us to be prepared." Maeve stared at him for a while before nodding.

"Alright. Let's eat dinner first before we talk about that." She said with a smile before she left him there to check on the food she was cooking.

"Falcon would be on standby, in case something does happen. I'll also assign some men with him to protect you just in case." September said, laying up his plans after they have eaten their dinner. They were now on his office, discussing possible ways to get rid of all these possible threats.

"I have a hunched that they will try to take you,"

"Like kidnap?"

"Yeah. Something like that." He answered with a sigh.

It was a lot more easier before since he got no one to protect other than himself and he was not afraid to die at all so all the threats of his enemies left him unbothered. But now, he has his wife. She was his only weakness, something that his enemies would definitely used against him.

"So what are we gonna do?" She asked playing with his pens on the table. She seems to care less that her life might be in danger. She doesn't even look interested with the topic, making September more anxious.

"Hon..." He called out making her looked up to him.

"Aren't you afraid about your safety?"

"Oh. Am not. I have you to protect me. Why would I even be afraid?" She responded without batting an eye.

September was lost for words. That sounded... sweet. And Maeve was everything but sweet so it made his weak heart flutter.

"I know you'll take care of me, so why worry?" She added before smiling and returning her attention back to his pens now scattered on his table.

He watched her play with it like a kid. She was forming those pen into fences and some weird buildings. He chuckled when she groaned when she accidentally destroyed one of her figures when she was doing a new one. He shook his head and opened his drawer to get the stuffs he had prepared for her.

"Use this." He said which stole his wife's attention once again.

Maeve saw him placed a dark blue velvet box in the table. She briefly glanced at his face before she took the box and opened it. It revealed a set of accessories.

"The earrings was actually an earpiece directly connected to Falcon's device and the bracelet held a secret camera. The necklace was for emergency in case they held you unconscious. The necklace would detect that and directly send Falcon a signal and your current location." He explained as he watched her stare at the jewelry set.

"It looks perfect." She said as she gently touch the jewelries.

"Thank you," She said after she turned to looked at him.

"Everything for you," He answered with a smile.
