Chapter 20: Chapter 20

"MBC Bank and Finance is a trusted financial help assurance in the industry. It was founded by Genevieve Miller almost fifteen years ago with the hopes of helping the city cope up with the recession that almost dragged the city's economy to dust." The emcee started as pictures of how MBC developed through the years was shown in a projected slideshow presentation.

The whole venue was quiet as the lights were turned off to give more emphasis on the show going on at the stage.

"Last year, MBC experienced one of its biggest setback. We solemnly admit that we had lost a huge number of clients and gained numerous trust issues from some prospects." The emcee paused for a bit to let his audience absorb everything first.

"But this year, the company had once again reclaimed its spot as the number one financing solution company. In a span of almost six months, Maeve Miller, the new CEO of MBC Bank and Finance had cleared off most of the liability that had been incurred within the past years." The audience applauded as pictures of Maeve, leading groups and conducting meetings was shown in front.

"And now may we welcome on stage, MBC's CEO, Maeve Miller!" The audience provided a standing ovation as they watched Maeve walked up the stage.

September was looking smug and proud as he watched his wife being applauded. He already knew how great his wife is but he still can't help but feel proud of her. Celeste, who was watching his expression almost winced.

"Dude, can you wiped that smugness off your face. You're not the one walking up the stage." September didn't mind his friend's sentiments and just continued watching his wife. Celeste just shook her head in defeat and just joined the crowd in cheering Maeve who was now in front of the podium, waiting for the noise from the crowd to die down so she can start speaking.

"It was a tough year for the MBC and it's employees, and I am very grateful to those who stayed and remained loyal to the company. As a sign of gratitude, employees working with us for atleast five years would have a five percent increase in salary." The crowd of employees cheered after hearing Maeve's announcement.

"As for those who were applying for retirement, you can talk to your direct supervisors for additional benefits." Another round of applause was heard, and this time the cheers are coming from the group of older employees.

"MBC would always want the best for you and so we also hope you do the same to our dearest clients." The employees present, gave out yells of affirmative responses. Maeve showed a formal smile to show that she acknowledge their response.

"And for our dearest clients, rest assured that we would, at the best of our abilities offer you the services you wanted to acquire." She started laying out the changes she wanted to do within the company's policies, management and processes.

Even the older and experienced business people in the venue are quite amaze with how well her plans are made.

"MBC Bank and Finance will now offer an exclusive financial assistance and advisors for each company. The assigned personnels were trained to cater to the needs of the clients assigned to them. You can br rest assured that your company and personal finances are in good hands." Maeve spoke with overflowing confidence as her eyes scanned the whole area. Greeting and meeting each and everyone's eyes.

Maeve wasn't raised to be a business woman. She was born to be one. That's how people perceived her. It even looks like she's not trying so hard but she still succeed with everything she does.

Some eyes flew silently to where September was seated. Despite the lack of light in the venue, people could still make out September's silhouette easily. Some young women can't help but sigh a sigh of defeat as they stare at the eye-candy man ahead.

Damn. She even hit the jackpot with her husband!

How lucky was Maeve to have everything she have? A luxurious life, pretty face, exceptional talents and a one in a billion kind of husband! Did she save the world in her past life?

While Maeve was speaking in front everyone's ears are all up to her as she keeps on stealing their attention without kuch effort. She just sounded so nice, and she looks nice too, so why the hell would they be bored with that speech?

"Every changes made in the policies, management and processes had undergo a series of reviews and discussions among with the board members and other stakeholders in the MBC. So rest assured that there would be little to none complications along the way." Maeve said slowly hinting the end of her speech.

"Now, the night's still young. You can choose to dance the night away or talk and make connections with everyone. Totally up to you. That's all and I hope you enjoy the rest of the night. Thank you." She said ending the speech. She took a few steps away from the podium as the spotlight follow her.

When she's about to perform a curt bow, the spotlight went out. The instrumental background music playing earlier was also gone and the whole venue was pitch black with the spotlight gone.

Seconds passed and the lights didn't went back. The crowd started making noise, asking what was happening.

September with brows furrowing finally stood up and took his phone from his pocket to used it as a flashlight when suddenly all the lights opened. Some even groaned painfully with the sudden assault of bright lights, including September and Celeste.

It only took a few seconds before everyone got used to the brighter room but just right that moment someone's shriek was heard.

A young woman was now on the floor, her face filled with horror as she pointed something on the stage. The whole event hall gasped when they saw the emcee lying on the floor of the stage, bathing on his own blood.

"Call an ambulance!" Somebody called out and almost everybody took out their phones to do so.

"September..." Celeste called out to his friend who was staring intently on the man unconsciously lying on the floor.

"W-where's Maeve?" She asked worriedly.
