Chapter 19: Chapter 19
"Oh. Where's my manners. I'm Celeste Quintaña. Nice meeting you," Celeste introduced with a huge smile as she face Maeve who's now sporting a playful grin on her pretty face.
"And I guess, I don't have to introduce myself?" Celeste grinned sheepishly before nodding a bit as she shifted her attention to September.
"Well, how can I not know about you when this guy calls me just to talk about you." She blurted out, not minding her friend's warning glare towards her.
Maeve raised her eyebrow in curiosity as she briefly stole a glance at her husband before turning back to the lady in front of them.
"I hope it's not all bad?" Celeste scoffed upon hearing Maeve's inquiry.
"Oh. He actually got it bad. He keeps on calling to talk about what you did and to ask me for more ideas how to pursue you." Maeve didn't know if she should laugh or something as she watched her husband's face reddened a bit after his friend's revelation.
"He did?" She asked, her eyes remained on her husband who was glaring at Celeste and avoiding her gaze.
"Are you shy?" She asked that made September faced her.
"I'm not." He answered defensively as he tried to meet his wife's gaze. It didn't even lasted a few seconds before he looked away.
Watching the scene in front of her, Celeste can't help but chuckle as she picked some marshmallows once again and dip it in the chocolate fountain before stuffing it inside her mouth.
"See? That asshole's whipped." She said almost incoherent because of all the food she's eating.
"Can you atleast act like a lady? You're mom's gonna freak out seeing you like that." September scolded. Celeste pretended to look around before looking back at her friend with a mocking smile.
"She's not here though." She said before carelessly stuffing herself with sweets.
Maeve stared at the woman wearing an extremely expensive dress and was prepped up elegantly. It's perfect, but she almost winced after seeing some chocolate smudges near the woman's lips. That was too... out of place.
"The Quintaña's is one of the major sponsors of the Sunny Orphanage. Every vacation breaks, her family drives back to the orphanage to bond with the kids. And that's where I met her. Celeste's parents are the ones who sent me to school." Maeve was staring at the lady in red as she listened to September's introduction.
"Unfortunately, I'm his only friend aside from his butler." Celeste butted in before popping in another set of sweets inside her mouth.
The trio continued talking like long-time friends. It is not clear if they were completely oblivious about their audience or they just don't care at all.
They settled on a table in front as Celeste told stories about the young version of September. Maeve's chuckles and giggles can be heard from time to time as she listened attentively.
"And you never developed any feelings for her?" She asked his husband curiously. Her forehead creased when she saw the mischievous grin on her husband's face before he glanced mockingly at his friend who keeps on talking about his embarrassing moments as a child and a teen.
To her astonishment, Celeste looked pale too. Her little to almost none, make-up didn't help hiding the draining of color from her face.
"Oh, she's the one who developed feelings for me." September blundered out with a conceited smirk.
"September, that was like almost two decades ago!" Celeste exasperatedly interjected.
"Now this is interesting..." Maeve muttered to herself as she watched the duo exchange banters.
"Hon, she even confessed to me." September added, mocking his already enraged friend.
"Oh no! That's a wrong move there, idiot! How can you tell that to your wife?!" Maeve wanted to laugh at the path Celeste chose to take.
September's eyes widened in alarm as he moved to sit straight before his eyes went to scan his wife's face for any changes he should be wary for. And just for the sake of joining the fun, Maeve put on a cold face.
"W-what?" September asked nervously which caused for Celeste to snicker.
"Didn't you know that it's taboo to talk about your past love affairs with your wife?" Celeste asked as she remained in character.
"But what we had is not a love affair!" September insisted before he turned his attention back to his wife who was staring at him coldly.
"Maeve, no. Don't get me wrong! It's nothing like---"
"You seems to enjoy the idea of girls confessing to you?" Maeve asked, cutting him off.
"No---"
"But you look like it. You talked earlier like a proud man." She butted once again.
September didn't know how to react. How did things escalated to this? He thought it was his turn to get back at his friend for humiliating him to his wife but, how did he ended up offending his wife?
He took a deep breath to relax himself so that he can think faster and clearer. He was about to open his mouth again to explain himself when suddenly, Maeve and Celeste literally burst out laughing. Their table are already gathering more and more attention as time goes by, but it doesn't even bother them a bit.
"W-what's funny?" He asked, a little lost for where those joyful laughs of the two ladies are coming from.
"He actually bought that?!" Celeste asked while laughing. Maeve, on the other hand is struggling to stop laughing even more as she stared at her husband's dumbfounded face.
September's face then changed from a dumb expression into a grim one as he realized what had happened.
"Are you two ganging up on me?" He asked as his eyes went back and forth to the two guilty woman in front if him suspiciously.
"Not our fault that you're too gullible!" Celeste said smiling mischievously.
When he turned to looked at his wife, he immediately turned away when he saw her stare back at him fiercely, her eye brow raising.
"W-what?" He almost wanted to punched himself for stuttering.
"Wow. You looked and sounded like a girl, September." Celeste teased but September growled back at her before telling her to shut up.
Maeve stares at him for a longer while before she smiled and shook her head.
"We're just kidding." She said, much to his relief.
The ladies once again, ended up laughing as he took a deep sigh of relief.
These ladies would be the death of him.
