Chapter 41: Chapter 41

Sunny

The bus sent us home one by one. We thought we would head to our school, where we would separate, but Gino said he wanted to make sure we would be home safe and sound. And also knows we are tired from this trip, and he does not want us to be in any hassle commuting to our home.

I think they sent Steven home last because his house is far. "Sunny, are you ready?" I heard my grandma asking me.

I nodded. "Yes, grandma. I am ready." I answered.

"They will be here in a few minutes." Grandma replied.

We are currently wearing semi-formal attire. Mom said we should be formal, even though we were in our own house. Rendezcah's family is also not like ours. We can just say that they were rich. This is the least we can do to look presentable.

When I got home, our house was already clean. It felt like they cleaned every corner of our house to ensure no dirt. I initially wanted to laugh because they prepared for this dinner, but I think my family wants to be presentable to Mr. and Mrs. Rendezcah. I also told them about Steven and Mavin's parents. They appear sophisticated, elegant, and all. I even described them before as people who do not know how to be poor.

I think I need to say sorry about that—the remark I made them do this.

"Here, put some lip tint." My older sister, Fei, said and handed me her lip tint.

"Why do I need to do this?" I asked her. "We will just eat this, and the lip tint will be removed in a few seconds?"

Instead of telling me her answer, she got the lip tint back, opened it, and put it on me. "I could not knock some sense into you, so I had to do it myself," she said. "If I said you needed it, just do it. Why do you have to ask me questions?" She added.

Unlike me, my older sister is straightforward and dwells too much before deciding. My sister is the very opposite of me. She is a powerful and independent woman. When I was getting bullied before, she was my hero. She even punched the guy who pulled my hair. She never let others say bad things about her or hurt her. If she saw something online about me, she would ask me about it to know whether she would not do anything or attack the person.

"I love you, Fei." I told her.

She was shocked by my sudden confession. "Oh my gosh! Do you like me romantically? I am sorry, but I am not into girls. I like boys." She replied hysterically.

I hit her arms. "Bad! I mean, I love you as your little sister. This is not incest!" I explained myself.

She laughed before hugging me. "You are still the softest Sunny I know. I love you too, okay? Next time, let's go out and bond on my day off." She said.

I nodded. "We need to do that. It's been a while since we went out together." I replied

Fei and I usually go out to have fun and bond, sometimes asking Shiela to come with us since she is also a part of our family. She is like my sister as well. Her family and my family know each other too. My older sister is busy with work, so we seldom go out. I understand her, and I do not want to force her. There is still time to do it, and we will have many following times.

Suddenly, a knock was heard on our door. "It's them." Mom said and headed to the door to open it.

My sister, grandma, and I stood up patiently and waited for them inside.

"Auntie, good evening!" I heard Mavin greet excitedly.

"Auntie, good evening." Steven greeted us calmly.

"Come in, come in." Mom replied as she opened the door wider for them to enter.

We saw Mavin and Steven enter first, followed by Auntie and Uncle. "Hi! You must be Sunny's mother. Nice to meet you!" Auntie said this as she hugged my mother.

"Nice to meet you too. Welcome to our house. I am sorry, it is not as big―"

"No, no. Do not say that. Your house is lovely and cozy." Uncle interrupted.

My mom smiled after hearing that. "Thank you." She said.

"Welcome to our house." Grandma greeted.

"Grandma, thank you for taking care of my sons." Auntie said and went to Grandma for a hug.

"Do they cause any trouble for you?" Uncle asked.

Grandma only shook her head. "They are nice. They followed me and did not cause any trouble." Grandma assured their parents.

They nodded and looked at my older sister. "You are pretty too, Fei," Auntie said as she embraced my sister. "This house is full of pretty people." She added, flattering us.

"Small thing, Auntie." Fei replied, laughing.

"Let's eat already. The food will get cold." My grandma said.

We headed to our mini dining room to take a seat. We had everything on the table ready.

"Did you enjoy the trip, Sunny?" Uncle asked, who was sitting beside me.

I nodded. "Yes, Uncle. Our trip was free, and it was really good there," I shared. "You can go there and have some fun too." I recommended.

"We will come soon," He replied. "I asked Steven about it, but he only replied yes. So, I am unsatisfied with his answer and had to ask you rather than him." He added.

I took a glance at Steven and glared at him. "I also think that he enjoyed our trip. Although he never went to the pool, he smiled, and we took many photos. Do not worry, Uncle. I will send you a copy of it." I responded.

"Steven is such a kj." Mavin commented.

Grandma started to put some rice on our plates. "Enjoy our food. Do not be shy. We are all family here." She said.

"We will. We are looking forward to your dishes." Auntie replied.

We started having our dinner.

"Too bad only Steven and Mavin could taste this," Uncle said. "No wonder. They want to hire you as their chef." He added.

Grandma smiled. "I am happy that you liked our dishes. We cooked it together." Grandma told Uncle.

"Really? Thank you for the effort." Auntie commented.

"Where are you working, Fei?" Mavin asked.

"I am working in a company as a human resource." Fei replied.

"Is it hard?" He asked again.

Fei nodded. "It is, but it was fun. I love my work, so I do not have any problems with it. How about you?" My sister asked back.

Mavin drinks his water. "Uhh, it's dangerous, but I also find it fun," He replied. "We are making sure of people's safety." He added.

We nodded. "Be careful with your work. Do not be complacent. Only trust yourself and the people you know." Mom reminded him.

"I will, Auntie. Thank you for the concern." Mavin answered.

"How about you, Steven? Will you continue your profession?" Uncle asked Steven.

We were surprised. We did not see that coming. In this situation, they do not usually ask their children before others, especially when they are not part of your family.

"I am still not sure about it, dad." Steven replied.

Uncle nodded, "I understand," he said. "Take your time to choose what you want to pursue." He said something that made me relieved.

I do not know, but a part of me still thinks his father would say that he should pursue what his brother was pursuing. I guess I have been watching dramas too much.

"You must be confused. We told you that you could take whatever you wanted if you were happy. You do not have to follow someone's lead because they said so. Are we clear?" Auntie told Steven.

"Yes, mom. Thank you." Steven replied.

"You can still think of it. Do not force yourself to think for now." Grandma seconded.

"Fei was also undecided before and took her time to think and decide. She is now happy with her work, so consider it and weigh your choices." Mom also informed him.

Steven smiled at us. "Thank you, grandma and Auntie."

"How about you, Sunny? Are you sure of your profession?" Auntie asked.

I nodded. "Yes, Auntie," I replied. "Since I was a kid, I wanted to become a teacher and share my knowledge with my future students." I explained.

Auntie smiled. "We will root for you." She said.

"Thank you, Auntie." I said my gratitude.

Our dinner was full of interviews, but it was fun. After dinner, we headed to our living room and continued our talk there.

"Sunny." Mavin called and told me to come near him. I went to him, and he whispered. "I heard you like me." He said.

My eyes widened and hit him afterward. That Steven. He indeed told him about that.

"Calm down. I understand you. I am handsome, after all." He whispered, full of himself.

I turned to him and whispered, "I just like your personality. I shared that I like that kind of personality. If I had a crush, then it would be on you. The girls took it as a big deal. Were you uncomfortable with it?" I asked, worried if he was uncomfortable.

He shook his head. "No, I am happy that you chose me. My confidence rose too much. I also think that my brother will kill me anytime soon. He shared.

My forehead creased. "Why?" I asked.

He pointed at Steven, who was sitting in front of us. He was also looking at us, glaring.

"What?" I mouthed the word at him since our parents were talking beside us.

Steven just pointed at me and slid his forefinger a little. "What is he talking about?" I asked Mavin. "What does he mean by that?" I asked him again.

Mavin only smiled and looked at me. "He said you should move a little. We are too close." He replied.

I look at the space between us. "Is there a problem? Can't we sit like this?" I asked again.

Why do we need to move a little when this is just fine? Grandma is beside me, and there is no space to move either.

Mavin held my hand and waved it to Steven. "It's fun to tease him." He said.

"Why?" I asked. "I do not get you at all. It feels like you and Steven are talking in your mind. You understand each other well—poor me. " I added.

Only they understand what they are discussing, and I'm still perplexed. I do not know what they are pointing at, or am I just stupid not to understand it?

I think the latter is the answer. Mavin suddenly let go of my hand. "I made him mad." He commented.

I look at Steven, whose face is still blank. He glanced and glared at me again. I fished out my phone and decided to message him. I asked why he was glaring at me and what I did to deserve that treatment. He opened his phone and quickly typed his reply.

'You move a little away from Mavin. That is what I was telling you a while ago.' He replied.

'How can I move when it is packed here?' I texted him back.

"He is just jealous," Mavin told me, almost whispering. "You said you like me more than him. He is mad because we are sitting next to each other." He added

"Why would he?" I asked, still confused.

Mavin laughed once again, holding his stomach. "Because why would you like me in the first place when you are always with him? You just hurt his ego." He explained.

"Ahh," I replied, starting to understand it. "They just asked me about my type, and I told them I liked your personality. It is not because I do not like him. I will choose to go with him when it comes to going out and dramas. It depends on the topic and category. Why is he taking it too seriously?" I answered.

It's not that I despise him or anything. After all, I still like him better than anyone else. Why is he acting like a kid?

"He does not want to lose with me." Mavin said.

Why are they even fighting when there is no reason to fight? After solving one problem, I have another issue I need help understanding. These two make my head hurt too much from thinking.

"Thank you for dinner. We enjoyed it, and it tasted delicious." Auntie said.

"We would like to invite you for dinner at our house next time." Uncle added.

"We would love to." We replied.

"We will go now." Uncle added.

Mavin waved at me.

Steven approached me. "Rest after. We will not watch it tonight. I know you are tired." He said.

I nodded. "You too. Take care on your way home." I told him.

"We will. Good night." He replied.

I had a long day. It was all fun.
