Chapter 31: Chapter 31
/Lukas POV/
The moment I stepped down I could sense that Li Changying was in the room. I tried not to slam my head to the wall. Who would invite someone like her? The first time I met her I thought that we could be friends but everything changed after that one night.
For some weird reason, she was obsessed with me and wanted to get married as soon as possible. I was not a kind of guy who was readily available for commitment and most of them knew about it. So it made me wonder what made her ask me to court her in front of everyone?
I thought that people steered clear of her just because she was the daughter of the Demon King but that was not the case. Not only was she ill-tempered but she had no respect for people above over or under her. That's why no one associated with her kind and did not invite her anywhere. But still, she shows up.
I nodded my head when I noticed a familiar demon on the way. Lord Yama clearly outdid himself judging by the loud music and the rowdy crowd. The last time he threw a party this loud was to celebrate his girlfriends birthday and it was an orgy. I took off as soon as I could.
A shiver went through my body imagining that day. Shaking my head I work for the only to notice
Li Changying inching towards me. She was stunning. There was no doubt about the beauty and grace she had. Her nails were long and painted in red as if to match her dress.
"Hi handsome" She purred, wrapping her arms around my neck and pulling me closer. I inhaled sharply at the scent, rolling my eyes back. The scent was to lure me but I was too familiar with the smell that it did not affect me anymore.
"It's been a while" I cringed as soon as the words left my mouth. I hope that she did not take anything else from.
A smile stretched across her lips, her nails scraping against my neck, "We can change that"
"That's not what I meant"
She twisted her lips, blinking her eyes innocently, "Aww too bad that's exactly what I had in mind"
There was something about her I could not pinpoint. Something different and I truly hope that it was not going to be dangerous. Why was she here? Did she find out about Talia? The thought made me still. I knew the length she would go just to prove that she is the one for me. How did I not think about it before? Like a fool I am, I asked Talia to join the party. I had to find her and make sure she is safe.
It was still bugging me that my pet tried to kill her and our baby. Even though I was trying to find the person behind it proved to be difficult. Anyone who had access to the mansion could have done it and that was a long list of the demons. If I started suspecting my own kind it would be a disaster.
Pulling away I plastered a polite smile on my face, "Li Changying will you excuse me for a moment?"
Her lips pressed together, frown on her face but still, she nodded her head. I immediately walked away from her, determined to find Talia among the crowd.
Just then I spotted her near the bar, sitting on the stool beside Leo. They both seemed intense, discussing something important. I thought that introducing both of them would make them civil towards each other. I never expected them to be best friends! Why can't she behave like that with me? Whenever I say something it's always twisted and we have a fight somehow. It's frustrating.
I grind my teeth together. It was so silly of me to think over it. And on top of that, I was jealous of my own best friend? The lowest is what? As a Demon King, these stupid thoughts should be the last thing on my mind. Shaking my head I schooled my expression and approached them.

As I was in the middle of the conversation with Talia I sensed Li Changying approach us. She stood beside me, idly resting her hand on my shoulder and leaned closer to my ear.
"Do I have a competition, Wǒ de ài (my love)?"
Talia narrowed her eyes. Only if looks could kill Li Changying would be buried. My eyes shifted towards Leo who was obviously pretending not to hear her. I should have expected that from him since he was always annoyed with her.
At my silence, Li Changying giggled and pulled a stool beside me. Why was she not taking a hint? But then again I rejected her decades ago and she was still rooting for me. I shouldn't be even questioning that.
"So silly of me! Hi, I am Li Changying." She forwarded her hand to Talia who looked taken back at the sudden shift in her manners.
Talia licked her lips before shaking her hand, "Nice to meet you. I'm Talia"
"Oh trust me I know. I have heard stories about you"
Talia's face scrunched at that. I shifted in my seat, trying to think of something that would let me escape along with Talia. But Li Changying had her hand on my thigh as if she was staking some kind of claim.
Li Changying giggled, waving her hand, "Don't worry. I only heard the good ones"
Talia nodded her head before turning towards her juice. I could sense how uncomfortable she was. Her hand moved towards her belly even though there was no bump. It made me hide a smile. In the beginning, Talia was very angry about everything but eventually, she came around the idea of having my child. That's the kind of progress I was looking forward to.
Li Changying inched forward, her hand going towards the bump and Talia slapped it away. Her eyes narrowed towards Li Changying, fierce and wide. For a flicker of the second, I thought that her eyes colour changed but it was too difficult to say with all the lighting in the room.
"Oh I was just curious" Li Changying shyly mumbled, pulling her hand away.
"Don't touch me without my permission" Talia snapped, raising her voice. Leo beamed beside her. It was like he was her personal cheerleader.
"I don't mean any harm" Li Changying raised her two hands in the air.
"Still don't care. Just don't touch me"
Li Changying grinned, nudging at my shoulder, "I can see why you fucked her"
My jaw clenched at that. How dare she utter those words about Talia? I stood up from the barstool and turned to face her. She parted her lips in shock.
"I have been nothing but polite the entire time so I would expect the same from you as well. You don't get to talk like that to the mother of my child. To my mate."
"Mate?" Li Changying scoffed, meeting my eyes.
"I don't see any mark on her. Who are you kidding Lukas?"
I swallowed at the question. There were so many things that Talia need to know before I marked her. It was important that she consented to everything before we proceed so I was holding back. Most of the demons in the mansion knew that she was my mate. That's the only reason she was able to bear my child.
Talia cleared her throat, crossing her arms against her chest, "I don't see why it's any of your business. We are taking our own time."
My chest flared in pride at those words. I never really thought that Talia would be able to talk back Li Changying. No one usually messed with the Chinese demon because of her vicious and cruel she was.
Li Changying clenched her fists by side and her jaw was set. Instead of doing anything, she blinked her eyes, "Aww really? Because last time I heard that you wanted to escape from this place"
I felt my breath caught in my truth. That was true and it was shocking that Li Changying knew about it. Who was telling her all these things? There was a mole in the mansion and I have to find out that is.
Talia matched her glare, "I don't know who is feeding this wrong information but I have never been this happy before"
"That's nice to hear" Li Changying mumbled under her breath.
It was better if I did not let it continue. The both of them seemed pretty insistent on getting into a fight. I shifted towards Talia, standing in front of her and forwarded my hand.
"Will you dance with me?"
Her eyes widened, cheeks flushed as she met my eyes. I thought that you would reject my advance but she took my hand and nodded her head.
"Always"
