Chapter 83: Chapter 83
- Maive's POV -
"Oh! I assume that you are not aware. Zoren and I are old acquaintances."
I looked at Daxton's facial expression. Was he aware that our parents were friends before? Or was he also shocked by it?
He had no expression that I could read when I stared at him. He was staring blankly at his food. He was not surprised, so he probably knows about it. I wonder why he did not tell me this? Probably because he does not think it was something important. But everything about my parents is very important.
"He'd be happy that I got to meet his friend," I responded at Daxton's father.
He laughed a bit, "He'd be surprised at how small the world is."
I nodded at his remark. He was right. The world seems to be getting smaller now. Everything that was happening in my life was all related to Daxton.
I remained quiet after that. I wanted to ask about his relationship with my father but he looked too intimidating to be asked. I will ask my grandmother for that, she surely knows about it.
Daxton's father turned completely serious before asking me a question that made me cough.
"What was your relationship with my son?" He was very serious. They have the same eyes as his son and it was very intimidating.
That question made me cough. I looked at Daxton, he was looking at me intensely. He was waiting for my answer too. My heart skipped a beat by the way he was looking at me. I suddenly felt a cold sweat coming out of my forehead.
How am I supposed to answer that when all Daxton gave is a mixed signal? I don't even know what our relationship is... or do we really have something going on.
I shifted my gaze away from Daxton, afraid that I would get burned by those intense eyes of his.
"We are in the same class," I answered. That was the truth, that was the definite relationship we have.
His father laughed at my response before looking at his son. I did not bother to look at Daxton, I was afraid of his reaction.
"My son is probably a saint for getting through that just for his classmate," he commented. The amusement in his face was very evident.
"Clark." Daxton's mother firmly called his husband, probably stopping him from saying more words.
Clark's POV -
I just had that lunch with Zoren's daughter for me to get to know her, but it turned out to be a funny interaction. She was different from his father.
Zoren is very intelligent. He gets to understand every situation the moment that he is in. He knows how to read between the lines. He knows the right words to answer. It was probably the reason why my parents had adored him more than an employee.
This woman is a bit naive. She has no idea about everything else. She couldn't read the situation she was in earlier. All she could do was to sneak a look at my son. She was trying to read my son and I don't know if that's a good thing or not.
My son looked so smitten by that woman. Now, I understand the reason why he impulsively acted. It was very dangerous for him.
"Is she..." My wife, Xandra, said as soon as she got to my office.
She sat beside me.
"Yes," I answered without a doubt. I am completely sure what she was asking. I know that she was also looking at Zoren's daughter earlier.
"She is our son's mate," I emphasized.
I had a doubt that she was Daxton's mate when he came to attack those witches without any plan. The bite mark on her neck confirmed that she is Daxton's woman. It is definitely my son who gave her that mark and she has no idea about it.
I don't know what was going on in my son's mind right now. I couldn't read his thoughts. Why is he keeping it from her? She really had no idea. What the hell is he planning to do?
I heard from Zorious that Zoren's daughter has lived a life as a human. Was that Daxton's reason to keep it a secret? Or is he still not sure whether to accept or not his mate?
Whatever his reason is, he should not let that woman be his weakness. He got vulnerable when she was held as hostage. Now that the enemies had known his weakness, it would be easy for them to hurt my son.
That was the problem.
After thinking about everything, Daxton entered my office.
"Xandra, let me talk to your son." I said.
She held my hands as she whispered, "Don't be too hard on him."
She left after that, leaving me with my son. I stood up and went in front of him, giving him a hard slap. He earned it.
"When did you act impulsively?! Is that what I taught you?!" My hands were trembling out of anger.
He should not make such a mistake. It was a stupid action from him. I expected highly from him. He was wrong for going into the enemy's territory.
He clenched his jaw as he bowed down. "You'd do the same for mother," he reasoned.
That made my blood even boil. "Yes, I would! I would fucking kill everyone who has dared to lay a finger to your mother... and you shouldn't be like me."
All the things that I have taught him, it was for him to be better than me. He was more capable than me and it disappoints me that he ended up thinking the same way as me.
"She's my mate. It's a natural response." He said, gritting his teeth. I could see the rage in his eyes as he thought of the situation that his mate was in.
"I don't care who your mate is. Just don't be fucking stupid or you'll lose everything you work hard for." I said.
I don't know when he has become like this but he answered,"Everything was nothing compared to her."
I can't help but see myself in him. He is stupid... and he is definitely my son.
