Chapter 84: Chapter 84
- Maive's POV -
The lunch with his family is pretty decent, I think. It was way better than I had expected. I expected it to be worse and so I prepared for the worst and what happened was just nothing more than I expected.
I just felt uncomfortable whenever they were staring at my neck and I wondered why. It felt like it was more noticeable after that encounter with the witches. I could also feel some heat from it... I don't know, I can't describe it really well.
I sighed as I looked around, this place is huge, well it is really a castle so it is way bigger than I know it could be. I sat on the bench outside their castle, getting some fresh air. I feel suffocated inside their castle. I just do not belong there. I miss my nagging grandmother.
"In deep thoughts?"
I looked around to see that it was Daxton's mother. She looks really elegant. Her facial features were soft and it was calming. She sat next to me.
I smiled as I shook my head.
"How was your head?" She asked.
"It's getting better," I paused. "I apologize for the inconvenience that I brought to your family."
She shook her head. "You're just a victim. There's really nothing to apologize for."
I smiled, still feeling guilty for it. If only I did not get scared that night, I could have run away from those vampires. I could have not ended up in that situation. I wonder what the outcome is if that did not happen.
"Do you like my son?" She asked straightforwardly, it was as if it is really the question that she wanted to ask for her to come here.
My eyes widened. I probably blushed because of that question. I did not expect that question, especially coming from his mother.
I looked at the ground as I played with my fingers. I tried to think of the right words to answer her. It was obvious that I like his son. Like is an understatement.
"He has a fiance," I answered. That was the right word for her question, I think. It was safer to answer with those words.
"He has... but that doesn't answer my question." She said, cornering me again with that question.
I smiled at her persuasiveness. "Everyone likes him." I commented.
She laughed, "You like him."
I was thinking that she would be angry or something like in those books that I have read. I have probably read too many books. She seems to be kind despite looking intimidating.
I blushed at that. I couldn't deny it, not when she was so sure about it. It will not matter anyway, there's no point denying.
I was about to say something when I saw someone familiar. That made me stand up.
"Arman?" I mumbled. He was the driver who has saved me from that village, the one who has brought me to Uncle Vera and Uncle Silas.
He got a little older, but I was sure that it was him. It is definitely him.
He was not able to hear me. He was in a hurry to leave the castle, he probably has errands to run. Soon enough, he was out of my sight.
Daxton's mother stood up after that.
"Do you know Arman?" She asked, curiosity had struck her.
I gulped and nodded. I couldn't believe that I would be able to see him again. Is he working here?
"He has helped me before... Does he work here?" I asked, still not believing it. The world is just too small for me, everything is just around me.
Her eyes were filled with curiosity as she nodded.
"What a small world we have..." She said, there was something in her eyes as if she thought of something.
She immediately bid her goodbye and went inside the castle.
I should look for Arman later...I should thank him for everything. He had not visited us even a single time, so I never thanked him for his good deed. But what are the odds that he was working here? How coincidental things are.
I waited for an hour on the bench that I was sitting on, hoping that Arman would come back. However, there were no signs of him. I should ask Daxton about him.
I sighed before going back inside their castle. I should take a shower. I need to clear my mind. It was only yesterday when I was kidnapped, yet fate has revealed another thing in my life again.
Fate keeps on throwing surprises at me.
I headed back to Daxton's room, to the room where I was staying for the time being. Now that I think of it, this castle would surely have many rooms. They probably have a guest room or room where I could stay. Why am I staying in his room, then?
I sighed as I released the thought. I shouldn't be thinking about it too much or I might get my hopes high.
I headed to take a shower in his room. As the cold water poured down my skin, I couldn't help but think about everything.
I stared at my hands, remembering the light that came from it. What was that? I just remembered that the witches triggered me and suddenly, my body was heating all over and that the mark on my neck ached.
I have never seen something like that, not in the land of werewolves. Daxton's father has said that I sort of ended the lives of black witches. Did the power that came from my hand did that? I remembered that they screamed but I did not see what really happened.
It was too late when I realized that I left the clothes that I was supposed to wear at the bed. I usually leave my clothes at bed, but I am not supposed to when I am not at home.
With a towel wrapped around me, I went out of the comfort room to get dressed.
"GOSH!" I screamed when I found someone entering the room.
It was Daxton. My face blushed at the sight of him, especially that I was only wrapped with a towel. He was also startled by my scream and he immediately came running towards me.
I immediately dash towards the bathroom. However, with my slippery feet, I found myself getting out of balance.
Things happened so fast that I found Daxton going over me to prevent me from falling into the ground.
I gasped when I felt his lips meet mine and I felt my body heating up.
