Chapter 82: Chapter 82
- Maive's POV -
"Why don't you ask about me first, Maive?" His voice was pissed and I couldn't say a word, especially because he looked frustrated.
He clenched his jaw and I knew then that he surely hates hearing Tobias name.
I bit my lip trying to think of what I had to say.
I probably had my words wrong. I badly wanted to ask about him. I badly wanted to know how he was feeling or if he is fine now... but the thought of his fiancee entered my thoughts and it felt like I had no right to ask him. Although I wanted to pursue my love for him, just the thought that it was his fiancee's right to do that made me hesitate.
Why does he keep on getting frustrated about Tobias when he has a fiancee?
Is he jealous?
No, that would be impossible. He doesn't even like me, right?
'Really? Then why do you think he came to rescue you?' The voice in my head asked and I knew that she was talking to me.
'He probably held himself accountable... especially when I was kidnapped inside the school grounds.' I justified my thoughts. He just went there to save us because of course it might be his responsibility and nothing more.
'What a poor reasoning...' She sarcastically said.
I opened my mouth, thinking what should I answer at Daxton. I couldn't find the right word, though. It was difficult.
"He's getting treated," He coldly said as he turned around and started leaving the room.
There's a hint of disappointment in his eyes before he left, which caused a pang of pain in my heart.
I bit my lip, unable to think on what's the best thing to do. Did I disappoint him? I probably did based on his reaction. Fuck, what have I done?
He was mad at Tobias? For what reason? Or was it that I spoke of Tobias?
Without a second thought, I came after him. I wanted to ask what made him disappointed even though my heart screams in excitement. Damn, I always get excited everytime I get close to Daxton, it was like inside was celebrating.
My mouth flew open when I opened the door. Their house was too enormous. No, house would not be the right term to use. It was a castle... it really is. Just like what I watched in movies, it resembles a castle with long hallways with multiple doors and rooms.
A giant castle it is.
I found Daxton going down the stairs. I immediately went towards him but when I was about to reach him, some guy approached Daxton.
Daxton stopped walking and the guy bowed down, as if he was a prince of a royalty family or something.
"There were no suspicious movements on the borders, My Lord..."
I was a little surprised when he was called like that. But what could I expect? He is an alpha, he has all the positions to be respected.
I couldn't see his expression. His back was facing me and I don't know whether he saw me or not. Damn, his scent is getting on my nose, how could he have had this so deliciously fragrant.
I bit my lip, trying to control myself from jumping at him. Damn, I was like a crazy girl who couldn't control my hormones.
They are all attracted to this man in front of me.
"How about the thing I asked?" I almost shriveled when I heard his voice. It was just a question but it was full of authority and very intimidating, yet sexy. Everything about him looks and sounds sexy, that all he does affects my body damn much.
"We are still looking for it, My Lord..." The man said, he can't even look into Daxton's eyes. It was as if it was illegal to do so.
Daxton nodded and they left after that. He must not have sensed me behind him.
I sighed and did not try to go after him. I just realized that we really are different. He is being served by almost anyone and I was just living a normal ordinary life.
He deserves Yskela, they were both elites as I could see it. They were both good looking and rich, while... I don't even know where to put myself because the life I've been living is not really mine. Although it was my second chance in life.
I walked back to his room with a tight feeling on my chest. The reality has slapped me again. I couldn't believe that I had a little hope that he has feelings for me. It was just his responsibility to care for werewolves, just on his nature to do so.
I sat on his bed as I sighed once again, my heart was breaking every time I thought of Daxton and his fiancee. If Daxton was also sweet to Yskela, damn, I felt like my heart was squeezed so tightly.
I tried to divert my mind as I looked around once again and there I saw an antique clock hanging on the wall, it was already 11 in the morning. Was it yesterday when I fainted?
I looked around his room. It was spacious, so large like the house where I used to live with my father before. There was a small shelf in the right corner and there were books arranged on it. It was all about war, tactics, and weapons. Does he have to read all of this? He really has responsibilities at this early age.
I couldn't imagine how heavy the burden he carries all the time, and a part of me was worried... I pity him. Did he have childhood days just like a normal child?
Although I didn't have it in the human village due to bullies, I was happy with my family. I also had a happy experience with my foster family and my friend Tobias.
When I walked in front of Daxton's portrait, I saw something that caught my eyes. He was holding an arrow and a bow. I went to look at it even more, it looks familiar... There were some Latin words engraved on the arrow. It felt like I had seen it before.
I was thinking hard, recalling where I could have seen that, when someone knocked on the door.
I immediately walked towards the door and opened it.
"The lunch is ready, Ms. Underwood." A woman, who is probably a servant of the Astrid family, said.
She was wearing this black and white dress that looked really cute on her.
I smiled and nodded. She led the way and I followed her, afraid that I would be lost at the castle. I thanked myself that I followed her because the castle was more spacious than I had expected. I would really get lost if not with her.
I found myself entering the dining room. My heart skipped a beat when I saw Daxton's parents already sitting on the table. I actually did not expect them to be here, I wasn't ready to face them. I thought they would not bother a werewolf like me.
The place suddenly turned so hot, the tension had gotten heated based on my own perspective.
"Please sit." Daxton's mother said as she gracefully gestured her hand, pointing to the chair where I should sit.
I smiled before doing just what she said.
They were looking at me intently, which made me even more nervous. They are as intimidating as their son, damn, how could they be this good looking? They were more like celebrities.
Now I know where Daxton got his looks.
Soon enough, Daxton entered the scene. He sat on the chair across from me.
Oh goodness, I couldn't look at anyone, they were all intimidating.
"Make yourself feel at home," Daxton's mother said.
I smiled and nodded before taking the spoon into my mouth. How am I supposed to be able to properly eat a meal here? They were too perfect for me, I do not deserve to be in this place.
"Maiveline Underwood... am I correct?" Mr. Clark, Daxton's father asked.
I shifted my gaze at him and nodded. Just then, I found his eyes looking directly at the bite mark on my neck, which made me cover it with my hair immediately.
He looked at my eyes when I did that. He smiled afterwards, still he looked intimidating. "I heard you were able to end the lives of those black witches."
My brows crossed, not understanding what he just said.
Did I? I didn't even remember that I killed those black witches. But how?
"Father." I heard Daxton, it was like he was preventing his father from saying anything.
"What do you mean, sir?" I asked, getting a lot more curious about it.
He smiled at me and shook his head, as if he knew something.
"It was nice meeting you, Maiveline. It's just a little disappointing that your father is not here," he said.
My eyes widened as soon as I heard that. Do they know my father?
"Oh! I assume that you are not aware. Zoren and I are old acquaintances."
