Chapter 82: Chapter 82
I woke up from the sound of my alarm and so I quickly turned it off and glanced to look at my child who was deeply asleep beside me.
It’s only six o’ clock in the morning but I need to get up so I can prepare everything my baby needs. A smile roamed around my lips as I watched her. I kissed her on the forehead and carefully get up and walk away.
I stole the chef’s role and cooked for my own daughter. Even when I was in the America I always wake up early just so I can prepare food for her before going my way with Cassandra to work.
When I finished everything, I immediately went my way up and coincidentally she just came out of the washroom. She hugged me using her small body and kissed me on my cheeks.
“Good morning, mommy. Are you going somewhere?” she asked.
I smiled at her and gently messed up her hair a bit.
“Remember when I told you that when we get here, mommy is going to work?” I asked and to her nodding state. “I’ll be working at Auntie Cassandra’s company and I’ll be starting today, honey,” I explained.
She pursed her lips, looking a little unhappy. She buried her face on my chest.
“Can I come with you?” she asked. I breathe out a sigh and caressed her hair.
“Maybe on another day, baby,” I said. “I have a lot of things I need to take care of at the office today,” I added.
She lifted her head and looked at me straight in the eye.
“Promise?”
I smiled at her and kissed her forehead. “Promise,” I whispered.
I fixed myself first in front of the mirror before I carried my daughter in my arms. I wore a simple black pencil skirt and a black tube top partnered by a nude colored blazer. After a while, I came downstairs and headed straight to the dining area.
Mom and Dad were already there and the instant they saw us, their lips curled into a smile.
“Grandma! Grandpa!” my daughter shouted as she got off from my arms. She ran towards my parents and kissed them. I couldn’t help but smile whenever I see them all together.
Thank God, they accepted her with warmth.
The dining area was full of laughter and happiness. My daughter, Daeshaia is such a talker, mentioning random topics one by one while my parents agreed with it.
“Grandpa, are you a busy person?” my child suddenly asked. We all stopped for a moment, curious with what’s thinking.
Her eyes were serious yet curiosity reined her. It felt like I was strangled by how she looked. I already know what it means for her to act like this. She’s going to ask about her dad again.
“Why did you asked, baby? Well, about your question… yes, grandpa is kind of busy sometimes,” my dad carefully explained and glanced at me for a moment.
I smiled at her with a little hint of sadness and I think my dad noticed it. She then pursed her lips pointing towards my mom.
“Does grandpa always come home, grandma?” she innocently asked.
I bit my lower lip, looking at my plate.
“Y-yes baby,” my mom answered, a little hesitant.
My daughter suddenly fell silent, thinking. Sadness loomed her face as she lowered her eyes; only looking at her plate.
“Then why doesn’t daddy do the same?” she whispered.
Mom and I looked at each other.
“Come here, my grandchild,” my dad said and reached out his hands towards my daughter. She then slowly got off her chair and made her way to my dad. As he laid her on his lap, he explained. “Grandpa is a busy person but your daddy is busier. He owns a lot of companies while grandpa has fewer,” he said. “Don’t worry baby, your Daddy will see you soon.”
After that he looked at me; signing that I should immediately fix this now with Daevon for the sake of our child.
I only closed my eyes and sighed to myself.
I know this day will come and I never forgot about it; especially when my daughter keeps asking about the same thing over and over.
I’m scared…
I’m scared that he already found someone new and made his own family.
I’m scared that he might take my child away from me.
My daughter is the only thing I have now that keeps me from going insane. It was her existence that gave me hope and light to stand up again.
My mind just continued to wonder around, aimlessly thinking about my child over and over until I reached the MW building. A narrow smile formed in my lips as I gaze upon the same huge building.
It’s been four years; does anyone still remember me here?
I let out a deep sigh before fixing my composure. I walked inside and showed my ID towards the guard since it looked like he was new.
After a while when he finished, I finally made my way inside. I saw some familiar faces that smiled and nodded their head towards me. I did the same until I reached the elevator. I didn’t have to go to the front desk since I already memorized everything.
It’s not like they changed offices, right?
I looked at my wrist watch upon checking the time when suddenly, I heard a woman’s voice.
“Wait!” she shouted to which I immediately pressed the button to stop the elevator. I could tell that she needed to run by the way she was panting. After a while, she took a deep breath and mouthed, “Thank you—” She wasn’t able to finish her words when her eyes landed on me. I looked at her, the same way she did and immediately recognized her.
“Welcome,” I mumbled under my breath. I noticed her press the eight floor button before breaking the silence between us.
“Long time no see, Ms. Samaniego,” she greeted me.
Ms. Samaniego…
Yeah, I almost forgot that no one knew I was already married to that jerk except for me and my friends.
“Yeah, long time no see, Ms.Ellaine,” I responded.
“Where have you been?” she asked. I don’t know why but I can definitely feel there were no hint of curiosity in it.
“America,” I simply said.
“Hmm. Nice country,” she said. “Why did you come back?”
I want to arch my eyebrow since it looked like she doesn’t want me here but I stopped myself. She looked at the door of the elevator while on the other hand; I remove those thoughts in my head and secretly mouthed some curses on myself.
Come to think of, is she okay now?
“Family matters,” I shortly said. Coincidentally when I said those words, the elevator finally swung open.
I smiled at her thinly before nodding my head as respect. I got out of the elevator and motioned to look at her one last time when I noticed something. She was glaring at me as if she’s mad not until she saw me staring; it quickly went away.
Weird.
I only shrugged my shoulders, unbothered by what happened and only headed straight to the office. When the secretary saw me, her lips were curling into a sweet smile as if she was so happy to see me.
We greeted each other and a conversation until we went back to talking about work. After a while we went to my office and just like before; the interior looked the same. I smiled in my head.
There are still some things that haven’t changed.
Just like before, my secretary assisted me so I can fully adjust immediately. She informed me about the changes and whatever important things happened in the company over the years to which I only nodded.
I started reading the pending proposals on my desk, the same way I did for the complaints and responses. After a few hours, I heard someone knocking on the door.
“Auntie—” As the door swung open, both of us stopped on our tracks. I could hear my heart racing the moment our eyes met and how my lips parted a little while looking at him.
I already expected that we’ll see each other just like what my mom said but I didn’t expect it to be this early.
When he recovered from being startled, he fixed himself and clenched his jaw before looking at me.
“S…S-She—I mean A-Auntie isn’t here. She’s resting in her house,” I tried to stop myself from stuttering but I couldn’t.
Damn it, Ayesha!
With my explanation, he only nodded his head slowly.
“Okay,” he said and immediately closed the door.
When my eyes landed on where he was standing at, my jaw dropped opened; he already left, just like that.
What the fuck? He left just like that?
I slapped my forehead for a second. What the hell were you hoping for, Ayesha? Were you hoping for the two of you to talk for a few minutes and greet each other as if nothing happened? Tsk!
My eyes automatically remembered what he looked like earlier and so I gulped and laid my head on the table.
I silently cursed; my face flushing. He was wearing a red polo with three of the buttons undone for Pete’s sake!
“Fuck you, Daevon! You shouldn’t wear your polo shirt like that!" I hissed.
Bullshit! What do I even care?
