Chapter 79: Chapter 79
“Mommy!” my daughter shouted as she ran towards me.
I laughed as I saw her approaching me, I just got home from work and the first thing I saw was her small body gaping towards me.
I slowly crept down to hold her in my arms. As she arrived in front of me, she clung and kissed me on my cheeks several times; I giggled.
“You missed me that much?” I asked, smiling at her.
She in turn did the same and nodded her head. How innocent those eyes looked like. I lightly patted her head and slowly kissed her on the forehead.
“I miss you too,” I whispered as I lifted her up in my arms.
“Do you have a gift for me, mommy?” she innocent asked, her long eyelashes swaying as she blinks.
“Of course, honey.” She clapped her hands out of joy while I on the other hand, removed my heels. I pinched her nose and then made my way together with her inside the apartment.
“Where’s your Auntie Azaia and Andrian?” I asked. When I roamed my eyes around the place, I didn’t see anyone until Azaia lifted her hand.
“Here!” she exclaimed, peeking through the kitchen.
I went my way towards her while holding my three year old child. I saw her cooking something while Andrian sat there in a highchair.
“Where’s Cassandra? She’s not going to eat with us?” she asked when she felt my presence. I looked at her.
“Dinner with Rozz,” I said, shrugging my shoulders.
She laughed. Even after four years of me warning my friend about Rozz, she hasn’t stopped at all. That man… I know I feel something bad about him.
Argh! Why is he even in here?
“I’ll just get a change of clothes and then I’ll help you,” I said and she simply nodded.
I was still carrying my baby in my arms when she started playing with my hair. She’s so cute! When we arrived at our room, I gently laid her down on the bed and kissed her on the forehead. I then started caressing her face.
She looks exactly like her dad.
“Why did my baby suddenly become quiet?” I asked. She looked at me straight in my eyes, biting her lower lip. “Did daddy call mommy?” she carefully asked.
The moment she had the capability of thinking, she already started asking where her father was. I secretly heaved a sigh and looked at her back.
“Yes honey, she called earlier lunch,” I lied.
I could see in her eyes a mixed expression of happiness and sadness.
“Did he ask about me?” she pursed her lips, looking quite hopeful.
“Of course honey, why wouldn’t he?” I forced myself to smile.
“Does daddy love me?” she asked again.
I was taken aback by her question. This is the first time she asked me that.
“Yes honey, of course he loves you,” I sincerely said and hugged her tight.
“Then why is he not coming here to see me Mommy?” she whispered.
It felt like my heart was stabbed into millions of pieces because of what she said. I didn’t think she would ask something like this.
“He’s just busy with work, baby,” I reasoned out. “Anyway… do you want to see your gift?” I asked, trying to divert her attention from a different topic.
Her lips curled into a smile as she nodded. I grabbed my bag and let out a box to which her eyes started twinkling.
“Barbie!” she shouted in joy as she grabbed the doll from my hand.
“Thank you, mommy!” she embraced me into a tight hug.
I caressed her and kissed her head.
“I love you,” I whispered as I broke from our hug.
“Play with your toys. Mommy will just change clothes and will help Auntie with the cooking, okay?” I said.
She nodded her head with a beaming smile on her face. She then grabbed her other toys at the corner of the room.
I took a deep breath before I did what I needed to do.
“Looks like your face started scrunching again. Did she ask you again?” Azaia asked the moment I entered the kitchen. Andrian was now at the living room, watching his favorite cartoons.
I slowly crept towards the chair and massaged my temple.
“I don’t know what to do, Azaia,” I said, looking frustrated. She sighed as well and switched off the stove first before grabbing a chair to sit in front of me.
“Why don’t you just talk to her father?” she asked.
I suddenly froze in my feet as a bitter smile loomed my face.
“He believes that something happened between Ivann and I, right? Do you think he’ll believe that she’s actually his child?”
Just thinking about the father refusing or denying my own baby, I’m already feeling hurt.
“I can understand your fear but nothing will happen if you don’t try it,” Azaia said. “She’s pitiful, Ayesha. She believes your lies!” she added.
I get her point. I also don’t want to lie to my child but I couldn’t help it. Saying that her dad is just busy at work and that every lunch, he asks how she’s doing is all I can think of. It’s easier to make her believe something out of a fantasy rather than tell her the truth.
“Sometimes, I also envy Cassandra,” I bitterly said. “Adrian never asks about his father while on the other hand, my daughter does every day.”
We were in the middle of a conversation when Cassandra suddenly emerged out of nowhere. Her eyes were puffy as she weakly sat down beside Azaia.
“What happened to you?” I asked worriedly.
Did Rozz bastard do something to her?
We gave her a glass of water and stared at her; waiting for her to explain herself.
“I need to go back to the Philippines,” she blurted out. Azaia and I froze in place.
“Why?” we both asked.
“Mom’s at the hospital and her condition isn’t too well at all,” she explained. “Maybe it’s because she’s already old. I need to go home and help her. I’ll also be back in my company,” she added.
The two of us didn’t speak a word instead I felt their eyes darting at me. I know what they’re thinking.
I closed my eyes and massaged my temples again.
“Daeshaia and I can’t be left alone here,” I said before looking at them. “I guess it's time to face everything too,” I added in defeat.
Cassandra held my hand and squeezed it gently.
“You can stay here if you’re still not ready. Azaia can stay with you if you choose to,” she said.
Azaia nodded in agreement but I only smiled at them weakly as I shook my head.
“We live in the Philippines not here,” I said. “Maybe four years of staying here is enough besides… if ever Daeshaia isn’t accepted by her own father, I know her grandparents will,” I explained. Both of them smiled, proud of what I decided to do.
“How about your husband? What's your plan?” Azaia asked.
I shrugged my shoulders.
“Will you come back to him?” Cassandra asked.
“No,” I immediately answered. “If I do come back to him, I’ll only do it so I can make him cry just like what he did to me.” I said, rage was flowing through my head.
He broke me once and I won’t let it happen again.
“Tomorrow we’ll be sending our resignation letter,” Cassandra said.
“Though, the two of you will be going first since I need to arrange something first. I also want you Azaia to do me a favor if possible. Please check up on my mom,” she asked, embarrassment written on her face.
Azaia smiled at her before holding her hand. “No problem,” she said. We all smiled at each other.
“Call the kids. We’ll eat now, you drama bitches,” she added and went back to her cooking.
“Yes Mommy,” Cassandra and I said in unison. We then, started running when Azaia held her spatula and wanted to smack us hard on the butt.
While walking back to my room, I suddenly thought of a lot of random things.
My family… and my ex-husband.
When I opened the door and peeked through to see my child, she was holding onto her dolls.
Her eyes were a mixed of dark gray, her long eyelashes fluttering smoothly and the shape of her face?
I pursed my lips. Why does it feel like she didn’t get anything from me other than my gender? The two of them are like a mirror split in half.
Should I tell him about our daughter?
What if he pushes her away?
What if he doesn’t accept her as his own?
What if he already has his own family?
What about my child?
