Chapter 84: Chapter 84
"I was just curious, so I asked you," Maxwell replied with a smile. His mind was racing rapidly. 25 years ago, was it really 25 years ago that he was adopted? How was that possible!?
Mrs. Davis and Kevin had ulterior motives for their return. No wonder he felt something strange in Mrs. Davis' expression that day, and there was an eerie feeling behind her smile! So, that's it...!
"Maxwell, is there anything else? If not, I'll leave first." Mrs. Smith stood up from her chair, looked herself up and down in the mirror, and showed a satisfied expression.
"Aunt..." Maxwell called out to her, but he opened his mouth and couldn't say anything. He couldn't understand the purpose of Mrs. Davis asking Mrs. Smith to meet Kevin. So, he couldn't let Mrs. Smith go!
Mrs. Smith finally noticed his abnormality and asked with concern, "What's wrong? Maxwell, did something happen?"
Maxwell shook his head and looked Mrs. Smith in the eye, solemnly saying, "Aunt, can you please not go to the Davis house anymore? And don't meet her son either."
Mrs. Smith was surprised and puzzled, asking, "Why? What happened to Mrs. Davis? And what happened to her son?"
"Aunt, I think Mrs. Davis has ulterior motives. It's hard to understand her true character, so for safety's sake, please don't easily go to her house anymore," Maxwell pleaded with his words.
"Maxwell..." Mrs. Smith chuckled, "You're overthinking. Mrs. Davis hasn't done anything wrong. Every time I go there, we just play cards and chat. She may be a bit haughty, but she's still pleasant to be around."
"Aunt, I don't know how to put it, but I hope you won't go anymore, okay?" He couldn't let Mrs. Smith meet Mrs. Davis again, and he couldn't let Mrs. Smith meet Kevin!
Mrs. Smith saw his serious expression and didn't want to trouble him further. She smiled casually and said, "Since you say so, I won't go. Maxwell, don't worry."
Maxwell felt relieved when he heard her words, "That's good. Thank you, Aunt. I'll leave now."
"Well, go ahead. Don't overthink," Mrs. Smith patted his shoulder with affection.
Maxwell nodded, turned, and walked towards the door. As he walked through the corridor, he let out a sigh and thought about the face that looked exactly like his. An indescribable feeling lingered and spun in his heart.
After Flora finished showering, she passed by Chloe's room and saw her engrossed in something while lying on the bed. Flora quietly entered the room, not wanting to startle her.
"No need to play mysterious here. Everyone knows about your tricks," Chloe continued flipping through the magazine without even looking back, mocking her.
Flora chuckled and sat down beside her, saying, "Why aren't you writing your novel today?"
"Giving myself a day off," Chloe replied, her attention captured by the fascinating pictures in the magazine.
Flora glanced at the various wedding dress pictures and asked in surprise, "Chloe, are you getting married? Is Mark divorcing Alma?"
"Forget it. Can't you just look without prying?" Chloe pouted and glared at her. "Mark isn't the kind of irresponsible person. Otherwise, he wouldn't have married Alma in the first place." That was something she appreciated about him. He wasn't as heartless as other men, ignoring the unexpected child.
Chloe sat up on the bed and said, "Why isn't dinner ready yet? It's almost dark outside." She got ready to go to the kitchen to help.
Flora followed behind her and chuckled, "Are you going out tonight? With Mark?"
"Why is Mark the only man in your mind? Are there no other men in the world?" Chloe turned back and glared at her with irritation.
Flora innocently blinked her eyes and stared at her, "Because I think Mark is the best fit for you in the whole world."
Just then, Auntie Grace's voice came from the kitchen, calling out, "Come out and eat."
The two of them walked towards the dining room. Looking at the delicious food on the table, Flora stretched her neck and took a deep breath, smiling happily, "It smells so good. Auntie's cooking is amazing."
"After cooking for a lifetime, how could it be bad?" Auntie Grace sighed and served a piece of meat into Chloe and Flora's bowls. "Eat more, and there's also a soup for beauty that I specially made for you."
"Mom, I'm on a diet..." Chloe whispered as she put the meat in Flora's bowl and said, "Flora, you're still young, eat more."
"I don't want it!" Flora looked at the two big pieces of steak in her bowl and felt a wave of disgust for some reason. Then, her stomach started churning. She quickly pushed her chair back and hurriedly rushed to the bathroom, bending over the toilet and starting to vomit.
"Hey, isn't your reaction a bit exaggerated?" Chloe exclaimed as she followed in, staring at Flora with suspicion. It was just two pieces of steak, was it really enough to scare her like this?
Auntie Grace was also startled by her reaction and anxiously asked, "Flora, what's wrong? Are you feeling unwell?"
Flora finally recovered and rinsed her mouth and face with water. She took the towel that Chloe handed her and wiped off the water from her face. She immediately felt exhausted and leaned against the wall, taking a deep breath.
"Flora, are you having a fever or a cold?" Auntie Grace extended her right palm and placed it on Flora's forehead, asking with concern.
Flora shook her head, not caring at all, "It's nothing. I've been like this recently. I have no appetite for anything I eat. I've gotten used to it. It'll be fine in a while."
"What? You've been like this recently?" Auntie Grace asked in shock, her eyes widened as she looked Flora up and down, and then she fixed her gaze on Flora's abdomen. She exclaimed, "You're... not pregnant, are you?"
