Chapter 85: Chapter 85
After saying that, Auntie Grace slapped the wall and started screaming, "Heavens! I've always said that good girls shouldn't work at hotels! Trouble always follows when you work at a hotel! You're so young and have already gotten yourself into this mess."
"Mom," Chloe interrupted her, annoyed. She called out, "Are you ever going to stop? Who said that working at a hotel means what you think? Flora just has a poor appetite. Who said she's pregnant?"
Auntie Grace had mentioned her not working at a hotel more than once, always associating it with something scandalous. No matter how much she tried to correct these beliefs, she couldn't change them. It was driving her crazy!
"These symptoms are only seen in pregnancy. Flora, be honest, did you do something shameful? You should resolve this quickly, get rid of the child," Auntie Grace stared at Flora, whose face suddenly turned pale.
As someone who had been through it, she understood pregnancy symptoms very well, so she firmly believed that Flora must be pregnant!
Chloe rolled her eyes in annoyance and said, "Kevin has only been here for a little over a month. Can things progress that quickly?"
Her sarcastic remark made Flora's face even paler for a moment. Kevin! She had never done anything with Kevin! But Auntie Grace took it seriously and grabbed Flora, shouting, "Flora, so you've indeed been involved with that guy, what's his name? Kevin?"
Flora's arm was being painfully squeezed by Auntie Grace. She stared at her with teary eyes, shaking her head and choking, "I haven't! I have nothing to do with him."
But was she really pregnant? Tears rolled down uncontrollably. If it was true, she had only been with one man in her entire life, and it was forced upon her. Maxwell Smith! That damned bastard!
Seeing her terrified and worried look, Auntie Grace knew she was lying. She believed that Flora must have been involved with that man, Kevin. Her grip on Flora's arm softened and turned into a comforting hand, gently patting her shoulder and softening her voice, "Flora, don't worry, I will go to the nearby pharmacy later to buy a pregnancy test for you. If you are pregnant... now that technology has advanced, aren't they advertising painless abortions that can be done in three minutes everywhere?"
Auntie Grace finished speaking and then changed her mind, saying, "I'll go now then. You guys go ahead and have a meal." After saying this, she untied her apron from her waist and threw it on the back of a chair before walking out.
Chloe watched her mother's figure leave and then turned to Flora, unable to bear it, and said, "My mom is sometimes crazy. Don't pay attention to her, let's go eat." As she spoke, she reached out to hold Flora's hand, but Flora remained motionless, leaning against the wall, her mind in a state of semi-blankness, shocked and stupefied.
Pregnant? This news exploded in her heart like a bomb, something she never could have imagined! And worst of all, the child belonged to Maxwell! The man she desperately wanted to escape from!
Chloe, seeing her still and dumbfounded, felt a sudden pang in her heart. She asked in surprise, "Flora, you didn't sleep with Kevin, did you?" Chloe had personally experienced Kevin's tactics with women, that wicked and domineering man. If it hadn't been for Mark showing up in time last time, she would probably have been completely taken advantage of by him.
Such a terrifying person, and Flora often spent time with him, easily tempted by his handsome and charming demeanor.
Flora shook her head helplessly, sobbing as she choked out several words, "It's not him...." and then burst into tears.
"Not him?" Chloe was even more astonished, grabbing her hand and angrily pressing, "Then who, who did this?" These days, so many men who do bad deeds without leaving their names.
"It was the man who kidnapped me before...." Flora fell to the ground, burying her face in her knees, sobbing.
Chloe grew even angrier, shouting, "Tell me who it was! I'll make sure he pays for everything!"
"No!" Flora became anxious, looking up at her with urgency. "Don't. I don't want to see him again, I don't want him to know where I am now." Maxwell! Who could make him pay? If he found out she was pregnant, she didn't know how he would treat her. She couldn't afford to provoke him, so she could only hide, the more thorough, the better!
"You're just selling yourself short." At least the money for a three-minute abortion should have come from that man, that's what she thought!
Flora wiped away the tears on her face, sniffing helplessly, "I'll take this loss." She could only accept her misfortune. Asking Maxwell for money for the procedure? That would be suicide, she wasn't brave enough to do that!
Soon, Auntie Grace returned and took the pregnancy test out of the package, handing it to Flora, "Here, try it according to the instructions written on it, stop crying."
Flora stared at the pregnancy test in her hand, feeling a deep sense of sadness. If only her guess was wrong, if she wasn't carrying Maxwell's child! Holding onto this small hope, Flora walked into the bathroom with the pregnancy test in hand.
Unfortunately, Flora had always been someone who had no luck on her side. This small hope was shattered. Staring at the red line on the pregnancy test, her heart was crushed by a piercing pain, making it hard for her to breathe.
Her body became unstable, and she fell softly to the ground. Consciously, she shamefully detached from her mind, the last remaining consciousness in her mind was: she was pregnant! Pregnant with the child of the violent Maxwell!
"Uh... Flora." Chloe and Auntie Grace exclaimed in shock, quickly supporting her as her body quietly fell to the ground, and together they helped her back onto the bed in the bedroom.
"Mum, what should we do? Should we call an ambulance?" Chloe anxiously asked.
Auntie Grace, still relatively calm, shook her head as she took off Flora's shoes, saying, "No need, I had the same reaction when I found out I was pregnant."
"Did you also get scared? Or were you overwhelmed with joy?" Chloe curiously asked, seeing Auntie Grace's suddenly sorrowful expression, and already knowing the answer. Well, she was also a child without a father!
