Chapter 61: Chapter 61

After dinner, Flora helped Auntie Grace clean up the dishes and felt a bit bored, so she decided to go to Chloe's room to have some fun. She pushed open the door and saw Chloe dancing her fingers on the computer, walked in with a light laugh and said, "Writing in your room every night, careful not to get too bored?"

"Do you think I can get bored with this performance?" Chloe replied without looking away from the computer, unimpressed.

"No, haha..." Flora walked up behind her, leaning over the computer, and curiously looked at the documents, asking, "What novel are you writing? Is it good? Can I read it?"

"No, go to sleep!" Chloe urged.

"Let me see," Flora smirked and begged, she usually didn't like reading novels, but since it was written by Chloe, she wanted to read it.

"No way!" Chloe didn't give any room for negotiation, then she glanced at Flora, smiling mischievously, "I really want to write a contemporary novel. Your experience must be interesting. What if I write your story and when it's done, I'll let you read it for free."

She had always been interested in Flora's past experiences, but Flora refused to reveal what had happened to her, which was driving her curiosity to the point of desperation.

Flora's expression changed slightly, and a touch of sadness spread across her beautiful face. Her story?! She hadn't dared to revisit that nightmare-like story for a long time! Maxwell Smith, the demon who took away her innocence! And Henry, how was he doing now?

Seeing her sudden melancholy, Chloe hesitated to press further, sheepishly chuckled, "Uh... if you don't want to, then forget it. Don't give me that heartbroken look, I'm getting nervous..."

"I'm going to bed." Flora gritted her teeth and turned to leave.

Back in her small bedroom, she lay on the bed, continuing with her unresolved sadness. What should she do? Could she really not go back and find Henry?

Although she really missed Henry, she was well aware of how unpredictable and domineering Maxwell could be emotionally! He had once said that if she dared to go back to Henry, he would definitely not spare Henry!

After hearing this statement, she dared not entertain the thought of returning to Henry's side! In this lifetime, let her live alone like this.

With a light sigh, Flora got up from the bed and sat in front of the computer. She casually opened a forum webpage and started browsing aimlessly.

She hoped to use this opportunity to distract herself, to stop thinking about Henry, to stop thinking about Maxwell!

When they arrived at the hotel, the timing was just right. While waiting for the elevator, Flora and Chloe coincidentally encountered Alma Brown and Mark Johnson. Alma had her hands inserted into Mark's elbow, presenting an intimate appearance. However, a careful look at Mark's expression revealed that he was far from being sweet, especially when he saw Chloe, who seemed to unsettle him.

"Mr. Mark, Miss Alma, hello," Flora and Linda politely greeted as they entered the elevator, positioning themselves toward the corner.

Chloe, on the other hand, feigned ignorance, lifting her head high and adopting an attitude of indifference toward the two.

"Chloe, did you stay up late again last night? Those dark circles are getting deeper," Alma said to Chloe with a smile. While her voice seemed normal, it sounded particularly grating to Chloe's ears.

Chloe slightly lowered her head, gazing at Alma with a smile that was not entirely genuine, "Unlike Miss Alma, I'm not as fortunate. I have to earn money to support my mom. Even if I become a panda, I still have to endure."

Her words caused Mark to feel a pang of sympathy. He lowered his gaze, unable to bear looking at her somewhat forlorn face any longer. Alma, too, became somewhat uncomfortable and lowered her head without saying anything more.

When they reached the 20th floor, Mark and Alma exited the elevator, leaving the three of them.

Flora, carefree as ever, leaned towards Chloe, chuckling, "Why haven't I noticed our Charming Chloe having dark circles? You still look beautiful!"

"Thank you!" Chloe replied.

Then everyone tacitly fell silent, watching as the elevator's floor numbers rapidly changed, eventually stopping at the 25th floor.

Upon reaching the office door, they paused, surprised to see Mark unexpectedly standing at the front of the Guest Relations office.

Mark, impeccably dressed and handsome, wore a faint look of resignation. His deep gaze was fixed directly on Chloe.

Linda took Flora's hand and grinned suggestively, "Let's go to the rooftop for some fresh air; the atmosphere here is too tense."

Just as Flora was about to laugh, she was met with a stern glare from Chloe. With a shrug and a nod, Flora and Linda headed to the rooftop, casting a gossip-filled glance back at the two before leaving.

Once the two gossipers were out of earshot, Chloe crossed her arms and looked at the disheveled Mark with a mocking tone, "What's wrong? Tired from taking care of the kid at night? Too tired to even sleep?"

Mark took a step forward, pushing Chloe against the wall. His large hand pressed against the wall beside her head, encasing her in his embrace. Lowering his head, he stared intensely at her and gritted his teeth, "Yes, I can't sleep every night. My mind is filled with thoughts of you, this little enchantress. Why are you so captivating?"

His other hand involuntarily caressed her face, gently stroking it.

Hidden around the corner, the two gossipers who claimed to go to the rooftop burst into giggles, teasing each other, "No wonder Chloe writes such compelling love stories; it's all from real-life experience..."

Chloe, naturally, wasn't buying that the two had actually gone upstairs to get some fresh air. She dodged Mark's hand, sneering at him, "Mr. Mark, aren't you afraid of being seen in this state? What if your wife hears about this?"

Mark hesitated, his hand that was against the wall dropping down. Instead, he grasped her slender waist, spun her around, and pushed her towards the slightly ajar door of the office.

With a 'bang,' the door closed behind them.

In the office, Mark pinned Chloe down on the sofa, staring at her face that was so close, enchanting him. His voice hoarse, he said, "I don't want this life at all, do you understand? Do you get it?"
