Chapter 54: Chapter 54
Flora's heart skipped a beat. She thought of something. Mrs. Smith wasn't such a terrible person. She had always been kind, peaceful, and caring. If Flora wanted to escape from the Smith Family mansion and avoid the deadly punishment that Maxwell was about to deliver, only Mrs. Smith could help her.
As such, Flora's body leaned towards the ground, curling up and sobbing, pretending to be in unbearable pain and suffering from a relapse of her condition.
Sure enough, Mrs. Smith panicked and exclaimed, "Nancy, what happened to her? Why did she suddenly convulse like this? Oh... Doctor Alan, come quickly and check on her!"
"Ma'am, Doctor Alan is busy stitching and can't come right now," Betty said urgently when she saw Flora in such pain. "Ma'am, let's take Flora to the hospital. Doctor Alan won't be done that quickly."
"Alright...hurry! Hurry and call the driver..." Mrs. Smith urged.
Flora secretly breathed a sigh of relief when she heard Mrs. Smith say that. She quietly settled down, eventually pretending to faint outright.
Soon, she felt herself being lifted up and then placed into the backseat of a car as it slowly drove out of the gate of the Smith Family mansion. Finally, she had passed through that gate. This time, would she finally escape? She must escape!
The car swiftly drove on the winding mountain road. It was at least an hour away from the city center, and it was already late. Nancy, who was tasked with accompanying Flora to the hospital, let out a yawn and rested her eyes, leaning against the back of the luxurious car seat.
It wasn't until Nancy's steady snores came from the front seat that Flora quietly climbed up from the backseat. Taking advantage of the night, she surveyed outside. The car had already left the mountain road and was now on an elevated bridge.
Flora quietly tried to twist the door handle, but it wouldn't budge. Desperately trying to keep her voice low, she pleaded, "Driver, I feel like vomiting. Please let me get out of the car for a minute."
"We can't stop here," the driver refused coldly, continuing to drive.
"But...," Flora acted as if she couldn't hold it any longer, and the driver hurriedly stopped the car.
However, he didn't allow Flora to get off alone. Instead, he woke up Nancy and reminded her to accompany Flora.
Everyone knew that Flora belonged to the Big Young Master. Losing her would be expensive, even though she couldn't be lost on this busy elevated bridge. It was better to be cautious.
Nancy got out of the car reluctantly, opened the door, and pulled the 'fragile' Flora out of the car. She said irritably, "Hurry up! Otherwise, if the car gets towed, you'll be the one responsible!"
Flora didn't respond, her mind racing on how to escape. She leaned over the railing of the elevated bridge, looking down below. If she jumped from here, even if she wasn't crushed by the cars racing past, the trained drivers would catch her.
But this was her only chance, she couldn't miss it, she mustn't miss it! Even if there was only a 0.01% chance, she had to try to escape. Even if it meant risking her life, she accepted it!
"Hurry up!"
Nancy's urging voice echoed in her ears. Flora gritted her teeth, her eyes locked onto a dump truck. She timed it perfectly as the vehicle approached when Nancy wasn't paying attention. She gripped the railing and leaped downwards. Her body soared through the air and then, with a loud thud, she narrowly landed inside the back of the truck.
In this lifetime, she had been blessed by luck! Although the fall was painful and she might have fractured something, she was still alive. She hadn't fallen onto the bridge below and been crushed by cars. Her luck was truly incredible!
Nancy was shocked and rushed to the railing to look down, but Flora's figure was already nowhere to be seen. Panic-stricken, she shouted, "Oh no! Flora has escaped! Retrieve her quickly!"
"Get in the car!" The driver, realizing something was amiss, shouted out.
As soon as Nancy got in the car, he swiftly turned the vehicle around, disregarding whether he was driving against the traffic, and raced towards the bridge. Unfortunately, when he maneuvered below the bridge, he had no idea how to pursue further. Both of them stood there dumbfounded, the first thing that came to mind was what Maxwell would do to them!
Flora felt her left knee about to give out, and when she touched it, her hand came back sticky with wetness – blood! She was bleeding profusely, no wonder it hurt so much. But at least she was close to a successful escape, the pain was worth it.
The truck jolted for a while before finally coming to a stop at a roadside where it was safe to park. The driver's door was pushed open, and a woman in her mid-twenties, beautiful and cheerful, jumped out eagerly and headed towards the back of the truck.
Standing on tiptoes, she peered into the compartment. When she saw a person instead of a meteor, her face darkened and she exclaimed in disappointment, "Damn it! Why isn't it a meteor!?" Her words and manner of speaking were in complete contrast to her appearance. She had thought a meteor had fallen onto her car out of nowhere, but it had turned out to be a person!
Flora propped herself up slightly and stared at the beautiful woman pleadingly, "Please, help me. I'm being chased by bad people."
"Why should I? I never do anything that doesn't benefit me!" the beautiful woman scoffed.
Flora felt a pang of fear and touched her own body, realizing she had nothing except for the half of her necklace.
Anxiously, she begged, "I can repay you slowly, please hurry and drive away, they will catch up soon."
