Chapter 161: Chapter 161
Kevin was taken aback. In truth, he was indeed growing more attached to W City. However, his mother's health was paramount, so he had to reluctantly agree with a nod. He reassured, "Mom, as long as you're okay, I'll accompany you back to Germany. We can let someone else manage the branch."
"Really?" Mrs. Davis asked joyfully, not expecting Kevin to agree so easily.
Kevin nodded, smiling, "Of course, the branch is already on the right track, and it's time for us to return to Germany."
"That's good." Mrs. Davis nodded in relief and then asked, "By the way, Kevin, how did the bidding in City A go? Was it smooth? Are we likely to win?"
"Quite smoothly," Kevin thought Mrs. Davis was concerned about the outcome and hurried to appease her, "An executive from the Smith Family Group sold the minimum bid to us, so we should easily secure the project." Although the means were a bit underhanded, as long as it struck a blow to Maxwell, it was acceptable. In the business world, no one was holier than thou!
Maxwell, who used such despicable means to forcibly take Flora, naturally could be defeated by equally despicable means to snatch the project of City A from his grasp. In the end, the Smith Family Group would experience only a minor disturbance, but it would be enough to make Maxwell concede.
What Kevin didn't expect was Mrs. Davis's unusual behavior today. She even said with a helpless tone, "Kevin, let's give up. Let the Smith Family Group bid for it themselves. We don't want it."
"Mom?" Kevin stared at her in surprise, asking in shock, "Mom, are you confused? The documents have already been submitted. And you were the one urging me to submit them." She had always attached great importance to this project, acting as if it were essential to win, and now she suddenly said they should give up? Did she misspeak, or was his hearing faulty?
Mrs. Davis sighed and smiled wryly, "I have heart disease, not a brain disease. I just think we shouldn't compete with the Smith Family Group. I was too narrow-minded before, encouraging you to do these selfish things. Now, thinking about it, it's unnecessary. What does winning accomplish? Our Davis family doesn't lack this income, right?"
It was the first time Kevin had heard Mrs. Davis speak so rationally. He looked at her cautiously and asked, "Mom, you don't hate the people from the Smith Family anymore? They treated you so badly before!"
Mrs. Davis shook her head, "I don't want to hate them anymore!" No, she still harbored hatred, but she no longer had the capital to continue hating. Seeking revenge would only make the Davis family lose Kevin, a crucial pillar. In the end, it was not worth it.
In essence, she had gained. She had acquired such a capable heir—Kevin. Even if he was taken from the Smith Family, he was still a debt owed to her by the Smith Family!
"Mom, it's rare that you can come to terms with it. It's better not to harbor hatred. After all, living with such heavy emotions is exhausting and doesn't help with your illness," Kevin said with a smile. He was genuinely pleased that Mrs. Davis could let go. In the future, he wouldn't have to engage in impulsive actions, such as the City A case.
If Mrs. Davis hadn't insisted on bidding, he wouldn't have been interested in this project at all. Since Mrs. Davis had spoken, he had no choice but to comply, and it provided an opportunity to suppress Maxwell's arrogance!
"Well, I should have come to terms with it earlier," Mrs. Davis smiled and urged, "Kevin, go back to your room. It's late, get some rest. You have to go to work tomorrow."
"Tomorrow, I'll have my secretary book the earliest flight. Mom, do you think that's okay?" Kevin sought her opinion.
Mrs. Davis naturally delighted and nodded eagerly, "Of course, anytime is fine!"
Her health was still good, and she could board a plane at any time! Kevin, seeing her in good spirits, finally felt at ease. After bidding her good night, he turned and walked out.
In the morning, Flora woke up to find herself sprawled in the middle of the large bed, and the spot next to her was cool and empty. Maxwell did not sleep in the room last night.
A slight sense of disappointment crept into her heart. She got up quietly, wondering where he might have slept. The study? Or perhaps in Chiyoko's room? Maxwell didn't usually spend the night in the study!
Maxwell's whereabouts were always peculiar, but Flora decided not to dwell on it. She shook her head and entered the bathroom to wash her face and brush her teeth. As she tidied up, Betty had already entered the room. Following Maxwell's instructions, she had to take Flora for a morning walk to breathe in the fresh air!
Although Flora wanted to go, she was also afraid to go, especially now that Oliver had returned to the Smith Family mansion. That man always wore a gentle expression, and his charm was lethal. She was afraid!
To avoid causing trouble for Betty, Flora reluctantly followed her out of the bedroom and headed towards the garden. As soon as they stepped out of the main house, they saw Robin, dressed vibrantly, bouncing around like an excited monkey, full of energy.
In the Smith Family mansion, Flora only revealed a genuine smile when she saw him. She looked at him, chuckled, and said, "Little Young Master, you're dressed so nicely. Where are you planning to go looking so dashing?"
Robin turned around upon hearing her voice and, with a mysterious smile, said, "I won't tell you."
"I don't care even if you tell me. I don't want to know," Flora pretended to be indifferent, turned around, and walked towards the backyard.
In a hurry, Robin caught up, grabbed her hand, and complained, "Annoying! Can't you take a guess?"
"I don't care, and I'm not interested!" Flora hummed dismissively, tilting her face to the side. Just as she turned her head, she happened to see Oliver walking out of the house. After a slight pause in her heart, she politely greeted, "Good morning, Second Young Master."
"Good morning," Oliver observed her. It was rare to see her in such a good mood. Her fair face radiated infinite brilliance. With large waves of curly hair tied to one side, it was her signature youthful and energetic hairstyle.
With such a pure and lovely appearance, she didn't look like a pregnant woman at all. Inside, she still exuded the lively and cute vibe of a young girl. Oliver felt an inexplicable stir in his heart. Flora, perhaps, shouldn't be living the way she was now!
