Chapter 145: Chapter 145

"All of this is your own doing. Even if you go crazy, don't blame others, understand?" Maxwell scoffed, turned around, and continued walking towards the house.

Robin looked back at Flora, protesting, "Flora, you can't leave! Who will play with me if you leave?" He had finally found a companion and didn't want to lose her.

"Didn't you hear what your Big Brother said? Even if I go crazy, he won't let me leave." Flora spat at him and gave Maxwell a resentful look. She had no interest in his enthusiasm!

Stepping into the main house, Flora saw the person she least wanted to see—Chiyoko. Her steps involuntarily froze in place.

Fortunately, Chiyoko only pulled Robin with concern, saying to the two brothers, "Maxwell, Robin, you're back. Come and have breakfast." Then she turned to Flora, smiling sweetly, "Flora, join us for breakfast. Don't worry, Mrs. Smith went to the hospital early, so she's not at home right now. You don't have to be afraid."

Listening to her words and looking at her false smile, Flora suddenly felt her heart freezing. This woman was really good at pretending. Clearly, she wished Flora dead, yet she invited her to the dining table?

Glancing at Maxwell's back already heading to the dining room, Flora forced a smile, calmly saying, "No, thank you." With that, she bypassed Chiyoko and quickly headed towards the stairs.

Chiyoko watched her escaping figure, sneered, and walked into the dining room. Sitting across from Maxwell and Robin, she looked at Maxwell and cautiously said, "Maxwell, how about we go to the parent-teacher meeting together today? I also want to see Robin's school." After speaking, she patted Robin's head and asked with a smile, "What do you think, Robin?"

Robin didn't respond to her but turned to Maxwell, clearly waiting for his opinion.

Maxwell, without looking up, refused, "If you want to go, you can ask Darren to take you."

Chiyoko's face darkened, and she bowed her head, picking at the breakfast on her plate with bitterness. She didn't expect Maxwell to refuse so mercilessly. Fortunately, Flora wasn't here; otherwise, she would be overjoyed. Chiyoko thought to herself.

Maxwell glanced at her and continued expressionlessly, "I warn you, you can hold hostility towards Flora, but if you dare to harm her or her child even a bit, I won't spare you!"

The icy words made Chiyoko's tears instantly well up in her eyes and fall onto the breakfast plate in front of her. Lifting her tearful eyes, she stared at Maxwell with resentment, using a calm voice to ask, "Is it because of her child?"

Did he say those words just because of her child? Or was it for Flora? He had never warned her like this before! If it was for the child, her heart could endure the pain a bit. But she didn't know whether he wanted to protect the child or Flora. Perhaps the child was just an excuse for him to protect Flora!

"Then what do you think?" Maxwell retorted. It was only because of the child. For the child, he silently reminded himself that without the child, he wouldn't let that woman off!

Although he clarified that it was for the child, Chiyoko's heart still ached so much she couldn't breathe. Choking on tears, she looked pitifully at Maxwell and said, "Maxwell, do you really regard me as such a despicable person? Would I not spare an unborn child for my happiness? Am I that kind of person?" Her voice became more agitated as she spoke.

Her tears made Maxwell's heart skip a beat for a moment. He softened his voice to comfort her, "Okay, I'm just reminding you that the child is of the Smith Family bloodline, and I won't forgive anyone who dares to harm him. I know you're kind enough not to do anything uncivilized." Despite his attempt to soothe, his words still carried a strong warning, leaving her speechless.

Chiyoko was almost driven mad. To gain his trust, she nodded gently and said, "Maxwell, rest assured. If it's really your child, I will treat him well, as if he were my own."

"No need to consider her child as yours. It's enough if you stay away from Flora." Maxwell sneered. His child would never regard the woman in front of him as a mother, even if there were no mommy. She simply didn't have the qualifications!

Chiyoko's heart tightened, and she gritted her teeth without saying another word. Instead, she stood up and gently said to Robin, who had just finished eating, "Robin, I'll accompany you to your room to change. It's time to go to school."

"Thank you, Miss Chiyoko." Robin politely replied, letting her lead him upstairs.

With Robin's hand in hers, Chiyoko swallowed her tears, having to follow Mrs. Smith's advice to please Maxwell. She changed her arrogant personality and began putting in effort, starting with Robin.

Seeing the pleading look on Betty's face, Flora had no choice but to eat every bit of the nutritious breakfast Betty had prepared. Betty had warned her that if she didn't finish it, Maxwell would punish Betty.

For Betty's sake and the baby's sake, Flora suppressed her aversion to certain foods and forced herself to swallow them. Betty happily left, and Flora, unable to hold back any longer, rushed into the bathroom and began vomiting violently. Not only did she expel the recent meal, but also everything she had eaten before, leaving her face flushed.

Maxwell walked in and saw her in this miserable state, his brow furrowing slightly. Standing behind her, he asked calmly, "What's wrong? Do you need me to call Doctor Alan?" Underneath his calm exterior, there was an imperceptible concern.

Flora shook her head and extended her hand to him, still half-hunched over the toilet, retching.

Maxwell hesitated for a moment, then grabbed a towel from the rack and handed it to her. She shook her head, indicating that she didn't want it. Pouring a glass of water for her with a cup, Maxwell handed it to her, and she accepted it, rinsing her mouth with the water.

"Your body is in this state. How can you ensure the baby's health?" Maxwell reproached with a hint of tenderness, examining her huddled figure on the floor with a touch of pity.

Weakly, Flora lifted herself from the toilet and shook her head, saying, "It's okay. Don't worry. It's just because I haven't been out for too long, feeling stifled. After throwing up a bit, I'll get used to it, and the baby will be healthy."

Maxwell frowned; even a fool could understand what she meant. It had only been a few days, and she was protesting because he hadn't let her go out? It seemed that he had been too kind to her these past two days, giving her the courage to challenge him!

However, looking at her feeble appearance, he couldn't summon any anger. Instead, he impulsively stepped forward, lifted her from the floor, and calmly asked, "Do you want to go out? Is that what you're trying to say?"
