Chapter 130: Chapter 130
Inside the Davis' mansion, the lights were decorated, and guests were flooding in. The air was filled with the aroma of fine wine and food. Soft music filled the entire mansion, and the guests were all laughing, except Mrs. Davis, who stood at the door anxiously. In her heart, she cursed silently, wondering if her dear son dared to sneak away from her again.
Although she had secretly invited several beautiful young ladies for him, it couldn't be possible for him to skip this grand feast, right? With all the guests present, the main character still hadn't arrived. The more she thought about it, the more anxious she became, pacing back and forth on the spot.
"Mrs. Davis, why hasn't Kevin returned yet?" Betsy Black walked out from inside, boringly asking, standing by Mrs. Davis' side while gazing outside. She had been waiting all night and couldn't even catch a glimpse of him!
Mrs. Davis turned around and patted her shoulder, reassuringly smiling, "Betsy, I'm sorry. Kevin probably got delayed by something. He said he would be back. Let's go inside, have something to eat, and wait a little longer."
"But I called him, and he didn't pick up. Could something have happened?" Betsy asked anxiously.
"Shh, don't say such unlucky things. Today is Kevin's birthday." Mrs. Davis scolded with dissatisfaction.
Betsy lowered her head and walked inside, shrinking her neck and sticking out her tongue.
Although Mrs. Davis scolded Betsy, her heart skipped a beat in worry. She pulled out her phone with concern and repeatedly dialed the number that she had dialed countless times tonight. However, it was still out of service.
Mrs. Smith, seeing her frantically dialing the phone, asked with concern, "What's wrong? Has something happened?"
Mrs. Davis put her phone back into her purse, raised her head, and forced a smile at Mrs. Smith, "Nothing, I'm just checking where Kevin is. But her phone has been out of service, so... I'm really sorry." She had originally wanted Mrs. Smith to meet Kevin, but it seemed that there was no chance now. It was really unfortunate. How difficult could it be for them to meet?
Was it possible that even fate was preventing her from doing so? Mrs. Davis took a deep breath, tightly clenching the joints of her purse, which turned white.
"Well, it's okay. He will probably arrive soon. Don't worry." Mrs. Smith comforted her with her words, but she secretly hoped Kevin would come back quickly. She had wanted to meet him for a long time, having heard so much about him but never seeing him in person.
"Okay." Mrs. Davis nodded and went back inside to distractedly attend to the guests.
However, to her surprise, even after all the guests dispersed, she still didn't see Kevin's figure. And Mrs. Smith had to leave disappointedly.
When Mrs. Smith returned home, it was already 2 am.
Upon entering the house, she happened to see Maxwell going downstairs to search for a drink in the refrigerator.
Mrs. Smith, astonished, asked, "Maxwell, why are you still awake so late? And drinking iced coffee at midnight. Didn't I tell you it's not good for your health?"
Maxwell didn't answer her but smiled and asked, "Auntie, was the party fun? You must be exhausted by now." His expression showed no traces of anything happening, innocently hiding any flaws.
Mrs. Smith sighed and said, "It wasn't much fun. I wanted to see Kevin, but I don't know why he hasn't come back yet. Mrs. Davis is searching everywhere for him. I don't know if something has happened."
The corners of Maxwell's mouth curved upwards, revealing a strange smile.
However, Mrs. Smith didn't notice as she instructed, "Maxwell, go to bed early. Stop staying up so late all the time. I'm going upstairs to sleep."
"Okay, good night, Auntie." Maxwell Smith smiled slightly, took a sip of his iced coffee, and picked up the phone next to him, dialing a few numbers. Speaking into the receiver, he ordered, "Darren, you can let him go back now."
After hanging up the phone, he walked upstairs with steady steps. Upon returning to the bedroom, he looked at the woman sleeping soundly on the big bed and felt resentful in his heart. That damned woman had shamelessly occupied his bed, leaving him with nowhere to go. With the scent of medicine all over her body, he had no desire to sleep with her.
He wanted to go forward and shake her awake, demanding she go back to the third floor, but as he looked at her fingers intentionally raised for him to see, he couldn't move a step. Reluctantly, he turned around and walked out, finding another room to sleep in.
Since everyone was staying on the second floor, most of the rooms were already occupied. Maxwell hesitated for a moment before finally stopping in front of Oliver's bedroom door. He pushed the door open and walked inside, comfortably laying himself down on the big bed, and gradually falling asleep.
Kevin woke up faintly, rubbing his sore neck. As he surveyed his surroundings, he realized he was sleeping in his car. The scene before losing consciousness flashed back into his mind; he remembered being held captive. How come he was waking up in his car now? Quickly checking his belongings, nothing seemed to be missing. Strange! They didn't rob him, and nothing appeared amiss. What could they have done while he was unconscious?
Stretching his numb legs, he started the car and headed home. At first, he drove cautiously, fearing some tampering with the car, but upon finding no issues, he accelerated towards home.
Back at the Smith Family mansion, a group of maids was cleaning up the aftermath of the party. Upon seeing Kevin return, they exclaimed with joy, "Young Master is back! Madam! Young Master is back!"
Mrs. Davis, who had been anxiously pacing in the house, heard the car and the maids' shouts. Overjoyed, she hurriedly went out. Grabbing Kevin, who had just gotten out of the car, she looked him up and down, tears streaming down her face.
"Kevin, you're back! What happened? Are you okay?" She had already forgotten to ask why he had been absent.
Thinking that he might have been in danger, her entire focus was on his safety. She had no mind to inquire about the embarrassing party that had left her humiliated. Inviting all the upper-class people and the birthday star not showing up!
"I should be fine. I don't know; I need to check." Kevin lowered his head, looking at his own intact self, and casually explained. After such a bizarre incident, he wasn't sure if everything was okay.
