Chapter 129: Chapter 129

The video displayed a face identical to his own. Just as expected!

Before Maxwell could speak, Kevin got straight to the point, "Where is Flora?"

His tone was indifferent, but a hint of urgency could be detected. This small piece of information revealed Kevin's disturbed state of mind, just like Maxwell.

Flora White! Truly a capable woman. Anyone who encountered her seemed to lose their composure. Even Kevin, a steady man like him, was driven to madness by her! This matter seems to be not as simple as he imagined it to be!

"What? Have you fallen for her?" Maxwell sneered, tauntingly.

"I'm only concerned about my subordinate. There's no need for your sarcastic remarks," Kevin replied, displeased.

He hadn't seen Flora all morning. After asking Chloe, he learned she had been dismissed by Mr. Maxwell. He couldn't help but worry about what Maxwell might do to her.

"Gambles often lead people to end up betting themselves," Maxwell sneered. Leaning back, he rested one hand under his chin and gazed at Kevin. In a cold, mocking tone, he continued, "Kevin, it seems your 'concern' for your subordinate has gone a bit too far. Don't you understand? What you're losing is the heart tied to Miss Flora."

"Enough of the nonsense! Where is she now?!" Kevin retorted.

From Flora's actions, he could discern that Maxwell didn't love her but still dominated her, especially now that she was carrying Maxwell's child. He worried about her fate. As for whether he had lost his heart to her, he refused to dwell on such thoughts.

Flora White was indeed an adorable and kind-hearted girl, so it's normal for him to be willing to help her, right?!

"I've already said, Flora is my woman. It's enough for me to take care of her alone. As for you... don't think too much. Also, I advise you not to listen to Mrs. Davis's deceitful words and do too many things against your conscience. It's better to avoid causing harm to yourself and others later," Maxwell warned with a veiled meaning. Kevin's treating him as an enemy was influenced by Mrs. Davis's instigation.

"Mr. Maxwell, please treat Flora well, or I won't let you off," Kevin didn't pay attention to what he was saying. He threatened fiercely. He wouldn't let Flora get hurt!

"Don't worry. I'll treat her well. If there's nothing else, let's end it here... By the way, I heard today is your birthday. Happy birthday to you," Maxwell said, not bothering with anything else Kevin might want to say, lifting his hand to end the call.

Birthday? Maxwell shook his head, letting out a low laugh. Was it really Kevin's birthday today? How ridiculous!

On the other end, Kevin glared at the disconnected phone, angrily slamming it onto the desktop. Maxwell Smith! He indeed had Flora trapped by his side! Clenching his fist on the table, Kevin suddenly became concerned for Flora and her baby. Did Maxwell know she was pregnant? Would he want that child?

The mobile phone on the table suddenly rang. Glancing at the caller ID, Kevin took a deep breath before answering the phone with a gentle tone, "Mom, is there something?"

"What do you think? Are you still in the office?" Mrs. Davis's voice came through, slightly reproachful. She had diligently prepared for the evening banquet all night, but her son didn't bother to come back.

"Sorry, Mom, I'll come back now," Kevin apologized.

Mrs. Davis on the other end complained in a slightly displeased tone, "I knew you couldn't show up on time again. Hurry up, don't keep everyone waiting."

"Got it." Kevin hung up the phone, then grabbed his suit jacket from the back of the chair and walked towards the suite's entrance.

Leaving the hotel, he headed directly towards home. Today was his birthday celebration, and although he didn't like these superficial events, Mrs. Davis enjoyed them. So, he let her have her way; it was just one night of inconvenience.

As the car left the city, on a less crowded road, it suddenly 'squeaked' to a halt at the roadside. Kevin was momentarily stunned. After muttering a curse, he opened the car door, intending to see what had happened.

As he stepped out of the car, a cold sensation pressed against his forehead. Kevin was startled, and when he looked up, he found a black handgun pointing at him, and it didn't look fake at all. The person holding the gun wore sunglasses and black clothes, appearing exceptionally professional. This couldn't be an ordinary robbery.

Kevin quickly turned around, agilely dodging the threatening barrel behind him, and then he reached back to grab the gun-wielder's hands. However, in the next moment, more gun barrels were aimed at his forehead. He could handle one person, but not a group!

So, he gave up struggling, released the person, and calmly asked, "Alright, who are you, and what do you want?"

Behind the crowd, Darren took two steps forward and stood in front of him, politely smiling, "Mr. Kevin, there's nothing significant. Our master just wishes to invite you to our home."

"Who is your master?" Kevin asked coldly, wondering why he was being invited to someone's home. Had he offended any big shot in the underworld? Why would they want him as a guest? As of now, Maxwell was his only known enemy, could it be him?

"Is it Maxwell?" Kevin pressed for an answer.

Darren smiled and replied, "Mr. Kevin, there's no need to guess because you won't figure it out. Please, get in the car." With that, he gestured toward the nearby vehicle, waiting patiently for Kevin to board.

Kevin glanced at the group of men in black clothes and sunglasses before him, realizing that resistance would be futile. With a slight smirk and a mocking look, he walked to the side of their car and bent to get in.

The car quickly left the area. After driving for about fifteen minutes, Kevin, leaning slightly on the luxurious back seat, felt his head getting heavier, and his eyelids grew increasingly droopy. Suddenly realizing he had been drugged, he struggled for a moment, only to find that his limbs had become powerless, and he couldn't move at all.

What did the other party intend to do? Why had they drugged him? With these questions in mind, Kevin weakly leaned back on the seat, his consciousness gradually blurring, and soon he fell asleep.
