Chapter 30: Chapter 30

Joseph's POV

"Well that's good to hear." Debbie answered with a very satisfied smirk. I didn't see the need for her to do so, as it was not any of her concern whether I liked Carrie or not.

I looked in her direction, she was not there, she was not in her seat. I see her friends glaring at me, for a hot minute I'm confused. Until I remembered what I had told Debbie. She along with everyone else must have heard what I said. I groan out loud, just when I asked for her forgiveness, this had to happen.

"Two Fucking timer, stop playing with Carrie, she's not your type." Her friend spat all red faced. I didn't even know how or when she stormed up to me, I just knew she was all up in my personal space looking like she'd like nothing more than to rip my head off of my body. I swallowed. She breathed heavily. Her other friend came and led her away quietly. Although her eyes were speaking volumes, they threatened me and I actually felt more fear for them than the first friend.

My eyes stayed on them as they went outside the classroom.

"Sophie and Andrina... They are known for protecting their best friend. They are very vicious. You should watch your back." Someone whispered to me from the back.

I breathed hard through my nostrils. I didn't know it would hurt her feelings like that. I just said I didn't like her. Did she have some sort of personality disorder where she thinks everyone must like her?

"That was fun to watch..." Debbie said looking annoyed. I thought she left, I didn't see her.

"Anyway, today, after school... My place." She said bending over my desk so I had a clear view of her cleavages. I raised an interested eye brow.

"Of course."

That one word had her smirking too wide right before she left.

"You are so dead." The same voice whispered to me from behind my seat again. I turned to look at the person clearly.

It was a girl, but she was dressed like a boy. I would have been fooled if not for her voice and the obvious bump on her chest.

"What do you mean?" I asked her.

She shrugged lazily, "You saw everything that happened... You still want to meet Debbie at her place..."

I still didn't get the point.

She must have sensed my confusion because she rolled her eyes.

"You said you don't like Carolyn, that made her run out of here crying, and then you made plans with another girl. Not just any girl, Debbie." She explained like it should make sense.

"I don't understand how the two topics are related."

She looked exasperated.

"That's just the way girls are wired okay?" She said not ready to give me any more advise because she plugged her head phones in her ears. Muttering something under her breath, I could only make out one word, 'doofus'. I frowned and turned back, facing the front of the classroom.

Something rang in head, something the mumbling girl said. Carrie ran out of here crying. She was crying? Why? I hurt her that much again? I felt... Bad.

The two girls entered the class again. This time, they were alone. I anxiously waited for Carrie to come in. She never did.

"Hey Andrina, where's Carolyn?" The mumbling girl asked.

"We couldn't find her CJ.. we came back just in case she was here." The one that threatened me with her eyes, now I know her name was Andrina answered the mumbling girl, which I know now as CJ.

"Did you look everywhere?" CJ asked.

"Yes we did, we have been calling her, turns out she left her phone here." Andrina answered. She was pacing, she looked ready to cry.

"Don't worry, she'll be back, in all her life Carolyn has never missed a class, she won't miss this one." CJ said with confidence.

Carrie never showed up to class. She missed class for the first time in her life. And nobody knew where she was. Nobody could attest to her where about.

I walked slowly, towards Lucy's office. And I all I could hear around me was the news of Carrie's skipping class. The whole school was buzzing with excitement. Because the golden Student, skipped one class. And it was all because of me. I felt rotten with guilt.

"Hey Lucy." I greeted flatly.

No enthusiasm whatsoever. I was glad she was done with work too, we could drive away really fast before Carrie's friends find me, or Debbie finds me.

"You okay?" Lucy asked as she put on her seat belt. I was glad she parked her car at the back of the school, now no one would see me leave.

"Nope." Was the answer I gave her.

"Wanna talk about it?" She asked.

"Carrie and I asked for each other's forgiveness earlier today."

She brightened up so fast I thought I'd get blinded by the light.

"That's great news! Mom's gonna be so proud!"

I was not sharing her happiness.

"But I made her cry again. Debbie asked if I liked her and I said no, I don't know why she cried but apparently it was because of me."

She stopped the car, looking at me wide eyed.

"She likes you. Yup, she definitely likes you."

I blinked three thousand times.

"She does?"

"Why else do you think she'll cry after you said you didn't like her?"

As she started the car, it became clear to me. She was not trying to be my friend to do her duties... She did it because she liked me. And I openly told her no, and she didn't even confess. I felt like a complete jerk.

"Aren't you mad?" I asked Lucy.

She looked confused before driving into our street.

"Mad about?"

"You do like Mr Anderson don't you? This would cripple your chances with him." I tell her.

She looked alarmed, then disgusted.

"Ew no, I don't like him. He is married... With kids."

I winced when I looked at their house.

"Anyway, I'm glad this happened. That way.. Mom and I can tell you everything without fear of failure. And you can finally be in on everything." She said looking excited.

I get down from the car, feeling very confused.

"I don't understand anything you are saying right now."

"Let's see Mom first... She'll explain everything to you."

And she did, she did explain everything to me... The reason we moved here, the secrets she hid, why she was always on her phone... Most especially.. why dating Carrie was a vital part of her plans.
