Chapter 29: Chapter 29
I was skipping to our usual table, feeling all too excited to walk down like a normal human being. I tried to calm myself down, believe me I tried really hard. But it was not working.
I saw him smile softly as he waved, right before heading to a secluded spot, I was a scarlet mess instantly, turning my insides to mush. I desperately wanted to sit beside him, however, I could not. I was supposed to go over some stuff with Andrina. Plus I was about to detonate with excitement and information. I felt if I didn't tell them soon, I was definitely going to explode.
"Did you just.." Andrina started to ask with her mouth wide open, her eyes huge as the moon, and her chop sticks poised over her food, carrying sushi from her half eaten played to her mouth.
"You did just walk in with THE Joseph!!" Sophie exclaimed, putting extra emphasis on the "THE". She looked really excited, like she won the lottery or something similar.
Their different expressions just made me blush harder, I pushed my glasses back up nose as I looked at the cafeteria floor shyly.
"Yeah I did.." I mumbled.
Sophie snapped out of it really fast, in a flash, she was out of her seat on by my side. Hugging me like a proud mother.
"I am so proud of you, for you my dear... You are finally growing up." She said fake dabbing tear drops from her eyes.
I pushed her away and made my way to my seat.
"You guys totally love over reacting don't you?" I ask as I sit down to eat my lunch.
"Yeah, us and the whole cafeteria are over reacting right now." She said matter of factly.
I blinked in confusion, I turned to look at Andrina, but she was still looking at the place I stood before in shock. I shrugged and face Sophie with my confused look.
"Open your eyes, you have four, use them to see." She said looking too smug. I take a curious look at the entire Student body present at the cafeteria. They all wore identical shocked looks. All the blood in my body rushed to my neck and face, making them really hot.
"Did everyone see?" I asked my friends the obvious question while picking around my lunch. Feeling too much nerves to actually eat.
"Yup. You are totally the best Student body president, giving them something to talk about for eternity!" Sophie said clapping her hands.
"How?" Was the only question Andrina asked without looking away from where I was standing.
"It kind of happened... I ran into him... We talked, we both apologized for our faults, then we walked in to the cafeteria." I summarized, while fighting off the urge to smile a creepy smile.
"That was more than walking, what did you talk about?" Sophie asked.
"Cigarettes mostly." I tell them.
Andrina looked like she was waiting for me to say I was kidding. But Sophie, as if expecting me to say it, she face palmed, really hard.
"You are you... I wasn't expecting anything less." Andrina said smiling before she resumed her food.
I was confused, but talking about it made me feel weird, like the conversation that happened between Joseph and I was supposed to be that way forever. No other ear, no other body.
"Your mom is going to be so proud of you!" Sophie said texting really fast on her phone. I could already guess that she was telling my mom already.
"I really liked it... I felt comfortable.. at peace..." I confessed
They both looked at me, before sharing a look, then back at me with the hugest smile I have ever seen.
"Carolyn's got it bad!!" They chorused.
"Shhhh." I shushed them and tried to cover my ears, all the while begging the ground to open up and swallow me. Because laughter followed suit. Laughter from the student body. I assure you that I died that very second.
I opened my mouth to talk to them, but the bell cut me short. And before I could say anything about it, everyone was flooding the hall ways again.
It was history class again. .
I sat at the very first seat just as Joseph came in, and I could have sworn everything moved in slow motion. His arms flexed as he heaved his back pack on his shoulder letting it balance properly.
His eyes and mine met for a brief second, he was just almost to break into a smile before Debbie rushed into the classroom, and because the teacher wasn't here yet, I was going to have to watch. I could already feel myself getting sad.
"What's this about you going into the cafeteria with the candy lady??" She barked in his face.
Suddenly, everyone was interested. Cameras were in their general direction so they'd get everything. A few cameras were in mine, but I looked away, I didn't want to see.
"Are crushes two sided?" I whispered my question to Andrina.
She looked at me sadly,
"It actually differs from person to person. Sometimes it's one sided for a few days then it's not, some times a few months, some times years. Some times it's double sided... They other times... It's permanently one sided." She explained.
"Oh." Was all I could say. Because it was very likely that my first crush ever might be one sided... permanently.
"We don't know yours right now..." She tried to assure me.
I smiled in thanks for her efforts.
"I don't get why you'd ask me that, but I think I can walk with anyone I see fit." He told her.
"Tell me right now Joseph, do you like the candy lady??"
"Jesus, no, can't I Walk with someone for the sake of it?"
I got up instantly at his response. I got up blindly, embarrassment and hurt filled my veins as I walk out shakily.
I could hear my name being called, but I don't stop. I walk really fast. Stopping when I was far enough. I hiccuped. That's when I realize that I'm crying again.
