Chapter 24: Chapter 24
Chapter Twenty — Four
Ava POV
I always thought that I was a naturally hard worker. Today, I was put to a real test of that perception of myself. And to be very frank, it was pretty hard that I almost failed at it.
The last time I talked to Charlotte was a long time ago. I could not even keep track of the time. It had been almost three or four hours. From the moment Charlotte had told me to get to work, I had been pretty much working from then on.
The work was too much and time was short. It was way less than I usually get to complete a task. Especially this big one. However, this time I had an advantage of being experienced that I did not have before. So, it was not as hard as it seemed. But I could not deny the fact that it was still hard.
This much pressure, really made me question my decision to decline any employees help. I knew that it would help me to get the work in a short time, but I like to work on my own. I disliked to partner up with other people if the work can be done individually by me.
If I partner up with someone and the work did not turn out to be good, than I usually blame them for it. Therefore, I did everything in my power to make sure that I avoided taking anyone’s help unless I had to. So that I don’t end up disliking them for no reason.
But at the moment, I felt like I really should consider taking help. The workload was too much for me to handle, and the time was short. Even after knowing all of this, I still could not bring myself to ask for help. So, I stopped thinking about asking for help and focused all my attention on my work.
“Ava, how many dresses are left for the fitting?” A voice asked me. I looked over my shoulder to find one of the employees, asking me. I darted a glance at the completed work and the dresses that were still untouched.
Likewise, I counted the dresses that were still waiting for their turn. Only five of them were left, but at this point they seemed way more work than usual.
“Five more are left. Rest dresses are done. How much time do I have left?” I asked him.
He checked his wristwatch. He seemed just as anxious as me.
“Only half an hour. Damn it! You need to hurry. We need all of this stack in some time. You should have taken help from one of the employees, why didn't you? Now, how are you going to get all of this stuff done in such a short time?” He scolded me.
His tone made me angry. Who was he to talk to me like this? I work under Charlotte and not under him. Thus, I was solely answerable to her and only her. Who does he think he could talk like that to me?
“That is my problem, SIR. And I will take care of that. If you have any problem with the way I work, you can complain all about it to Charlotte ma’am. Moreover, If you would not mind, please mind your tone the way you are speaking to me. I would appreciate it if you keep it light.” I answered him in a tight voice.
He closed his eyes momentarily before opening his eyes again. He appeared way calmer than he was before.
“I am sorry. I should not have spoken to you like that. It was just that the pressure was too much, and I was frustrated from reprimanded from seniors. And all this pressure I took out on you. I apologize for my behavior.” He said. To be very honest, I understand his frustration. I was feeling the same way, but I was wise enough to not take out my frustration on people around me.
Nevertheless, since he realized his mistake and apologized for his mistake, I forgave him.
“Apology accepted. I can understand the pressure. I am glad you realize your mistake.” I told him. He gave me a winning smile.
Scratching my chin, I looked at all the dresses in front of me. I estimated the time in my head and tried to check if I had the capability to do it all in the given time. I also considered if, now, I should take help from one of the working employees.
The answer was a No.
I can do it all in the given time without the help from one of the employees. So, I decided.
“About these dresses, don’t worry. I will prepare all these dresses in the given time. You can come and collect all the dresses five minutes before half an hour. Okay?” I told him.
“Okay …” He said before his cell phone began ringing. He took it out, checked the name before he picked it up. I went back to my work and began working.
“Okay, ma’am.” I heard in the background. The same employee was talking on the phone.
“Listen, Ava.” I heard his voice.
“Yeah.” I asked.
“Charlotte, ma’am just called me. She asked me to take all finished dresses to the final rack and leave the rest of the other dresses until you complete it. Once you get those five dresses, I put them into the finished one too.” He told me. If Charlotte had asked it, then it was okay. It was actually a good decision. At least, they would have a few ready — to — show — dresses with them. If I failed to do all these dresses in the given time, then at least they could show the finished ones as an example.
“Okay.” I replied. I jerked my head to the finished dresses.
“Take these dresses. All of them are complete. Take them and put them into the final collection.” I told him. He nodded and got to work, and I did the same.
In fifteen minutes, all five dresses were finished. Since I managed to get this work done under time, I decided to give some extra touch up on all the work. I never mind working extra when I want to and have time for the same. Finally, done with my work, I stood up and began wrapping up the stuff.
Right at that moment, the employee returned to collect, the rest of the dresses.
“Are all the dresses done?”
He asked, looking way less annoyed than the first time he came here.
“Yeah. Here are the dresses.” I told him.
“That was fast.” He commented. Like I told you. Although, I did not say out loud.
I led him to the newly designed dresses. I pointed to them.
“Here are these.” I told him.
“Wow …” He said. I glanced at him in disbelief.
“What?” I asked him. My voice comes out a little snappy.
“You did these?” He asked me. Still, looking a bit awed. I glanced at the dresses and shrugged.
“Yeah.” I answered him casually. I did not see the point in his reaction.
“That is great.” He told me and I got a bit annoyed at him.
“Don’t you have to transfer all the dresses in time?” I asked him. The words seem to hit him hard because he jerked to reality.
“Yeah. You are right. Wait until madam Charlotte sees it.” He told me before moving the dresses out of the room.
Yeah. We will see.
