Chapter 23: Chapter 23
Chapter Twenty – Three
Ava POV
My life in this office was an adventure in itself. When had I thought that a day would come when I would search for Charlotte myself, the very person I wanted to avoid. Nonetheless, here I was. Trying to find someone who had seemed to have disappeared into thin air.
But this time the problem was grave and it was necessary.
This problem with Kevin could get me out of this office. If he told Charlotte before me about the slap then things could get ugly. She might not even want to listen to the reason before passing the judgement and throwing me out.
Also, it was not something that I could solve myself. Especially when I had slapped him in front of so many employees. Not to mention the fact that it was completely unprofessional.
Unprofessional? Ugh ...
What was I even thinking?
And it happened on the fourth day of my damn office.
I searched the whole floor of my office yet could not find her. Thought that she would be in her office so I went there in search of her but she was not there either.
I was getting agitated by my regular failure in finding her, therefore I decided to ask all the people around me if they knew where Charlotte was, but they all shook their heads in a No. I went as far as asking the receptionist at the front desk but got the same answer. However, the reaction was different from others.
The receptionist on the front desk asked me about the work that I needed to discuss with her. Her expressions were a curious one like she expected some juicy gossip out of me, or something.
Her reaction raised my guards up. I became very aware of the words I used next, so that I did not end up telling her something inappropriate about Charlotte. I did not want to say something that should not have been said.
However, I could not possibly do that.
To be very frank, I knew nothing about Charlotte. I had only been working here for three days to actually know something about her. I had nothing that I actually could tell about her. One that could be considered anything like gossip.
Well, maybe, except the other day. When she behaved so bossy in our Boss's house and the way she talked to him.
I told the receptionist that I wanted to meet Charlotte for something related to work and I needed her guidance. Her expressions became passive and she shrugged her shoulders at me.
"I don't know. I did not see her leaving." She told me, before going back to her work.
I did not know what to do anymore. Not being able to find her, I changed my mind. I decided to search for her. I had wasted almost an hour searching for her and ignored all the work that I had left to do. I needed to get it done.
It looked like she was not even in the whole building. So, I gave up and rode back to my office.
As the elevator began, ascending thoughts started brewing in mind.
I had to tell someone about it, maybe I should talk to Jasper. I was not sure if he would help me or not. If I were any judge of character, he would certainly look into this matter and try to help me. However, I did not want to bother him with another one of my problems. Since the day I met him, I had showered him with my problems.
And he had solved each and every single one of them without as much as frowning.
I closed my eyes before shaking my head at my own ungratefulness.
How can I even think about going to him and telling him about this problem? Had I not put him into enough trouble? Why was I so ready to drag him into another difficulty of my life? I should start behaving as an adult and solve my own problems.
I stopped thinking about it as the elevator reached my floor. The door of the elevator opened and I stepped outside of it.
I flung my hair back that was irritating me. Out of all problem that I had thought
I would face in the workplace; this was not one of them. Whatever.
Trying to forget all of this I moved towards my office. I did not think that this matter could be solved today. I will report about it tomorrow.
Right as I saw my office, its door opened and Charlotte walked out in a hurry. Momentarily, I was surprised. I had been looking for her everywhere and she came out of here? From my office?
Relief flooded in me at finally finding her. However, worry replaced it soon enough. She was coming out of my office room, it meant that she certainly heard from people about what had happened. Or maybe she did not hear what had happened. But there was a possibility that she did. What was I going to tell her then?
Oh man. This cannot be happening.
By the looks of her face she seemed anxious. Holy crap. I think she knew. No, I should not worry about it. I was innocent. I was just going to tell her the truth. That's it. she must understand why I did what I did.
Right after seeing her, Charlotte saw me as well. I walked up to her and she to me and we met in the middle.
I had expected her to start yelling at me for what I did. But what she said next was completely opposite of what I thought I heard.
Her first sentence left me speechless.
"Where were you? I was looking for you everywhere." She said,
My mouth almost hung open. She was looking for me? I was looking for her. I searched the entire building looking for her.
"I was looking for you too." I replied. Her brows furrowed, looking confused.
"Looking for me? For what?" She questioned.
"Uhm ... Actually ..." I tried to find words to explain the situation best.
"I was ..." I said but Charlotte shook her head and interrupted me in the middle.
"Forget about it. You can tell me about it later. I have something more important to talk about. It is urgent." She told me and I shut my mouth and stopped speaking.
"Listen to me. Remember all the dresses I assigned you to fit?" She asked me. There was an urgency in her voice. Maybe, it was important.
"Yeah." I replied.
"Right. So, I want you to do another stack of those similar dresses for me. It is urgent. Since you already did it on the dresses before it should not be hard for you anymore. If you want then you can take help from one of the employees. It needs to be done in under five hours." She told me, darting a look at her wristwatch. I darted a quick glance to my office.
I was unsure what was happening.
"Umm ... okay. But Charlotte ..."
"No 'buts', Ava. You have to do it. We need these samples for the upcoming deal, immediately. So, you need to do this." She said then pointed to the office room.
"Go and get started. You need to hurry if you want to complete this task." She told me. Charlotte moved to get going but I stopped her.
"Wait Charlotte." She stopped and looked at me expectantly.
"Before you go. I need to tell you something." I said. I needed to tell her. My problem was just as important.
"Not now, Ava. I am in a hurry right now. I am super busy at the moment. I need to get a lot of work done before the arrival of the dealers. We can talk about it later, when I am not busy. Now is not the right time." She told me.
I bit my lip and released it.
There was no point in telling her now. She would not listen to me. Perhaps, she was right. I would tell her about it later. This matter can wait for now.
I nodded.
"Okay, then. We can talk about it later." I told her. She gave me an encouraging nod before walking out of there.
I sighed.
I guess this matter needed to put on hold for now.
