Chapter 25: Chapter 25

Chapter Twenty – Five

Ava POV

Time rushed after I managed to finish the rest of the five dress fittings. The employee, who tried to scold me to get all the dresses done under the given time, I got to know the employee’s name, it was Max.

In a few seconds, I got to know that he was not lying when he told me that all the harsh words from before were actually because he was stressed. After I finished my work earlier than the deadline, he was all happy and joyful. Knowing that now he would not need to hear from all the seniors that was all over his head.

And his compliment from earlier confirmed that it was all just his peer’s pressure.

When the work came to transfer all the dresses back to the racks, I offered to help him. Since I had nothing else to do anymore. But he denied any sort of help and just got on with his work without my help. However, he told me to be around if there was any problem with the settings.

I agreed and stayed around.

I was checking if anything was missing or was left under my scrutinizing gaze when Max came back to me.

“Hey, listen. I will be right back. Please, stay around these dresses and don’t let them anywhere near them. Okay, I will be back in five minutes.” He told me. He looked like he was in a hurry.

I nodded my head.

“Okay.” I replied to him.

He nodded back before disappearing down the lobby.

I continued my inspection. I bent down and checked the material. Nothing appeared out of line or missing. Maybe I should be proud of myself.

Out of nowhere, a shadow fell over me. And I heard a familiar voice.

“Did you find something in there?” Jasper asked me. His tone sounded amusing and a little teasing.

I glanced up. Jasper was trying to look where I had all my focus for just a few seconds. His brows were furrowed just like mine. And I finally realised that he was just kidding. Mocking me.

His head turned sideways and our eyes met. For a second, a flash of the pool night went through my head. of the pool night. Maybe, in his head that time flashed too, because a look passed his eyes and stood up.

Jasper comes first.

I straightened and Jasper backed off a little. The whole environment changed to awkward for one.

I glanced at the dresses and turned back to Jasper.

“I was just checking all these dresses for the last check up.” I told him. Then continued.

“Charlotte ma’am asked me to prepare everything for the upcoming deal.” I explained to him.

“She gave you the fittings of these dresses?” He asked me, his tone a bit crisp and rough.

To my utter surprise, he looked mildly bothered by the fact that Charlotte handed me the work of fitting all these dresses. and it was surprising for me to watch those expressions on his face. From the moment that we had met, he always showed trust in me.

Even though I did not want to admit it, his lack of trust in my skills stung. Did he have no faith in my ability?

“Yes.” I replied back to his question.

“Yes.” I replied back to his question. My tone sounded defensive and crisp. Not realising that I had no right to behave that way. And he had every right. For one that he was the CEO of this company. Mainly because he actually never saw my work before. Especially considering the fact that I had not even completed my college when I got this job. It was valid for him to not trust my skills. Not ignoring that I was just a fresher.

I clasped my mouth shut because I did not know what to say after this.

I clasped my mouth shut because I did not know what to say after that. Deciding that I had overstepped my boundaries, I opened my mouth to apologize when at the corner of my eye, I got a glimpse of a figure coming my way. My head turned and saw Charlotte walking our way.

Watching that abruptly, my attention had shifted somewhere else. Jasper also whirled around to see what had caught my attention. We both watched as Charlotte approached us.

She walked and walked until reaching our side.

Glancing at Jasper, she acknowledged him with a nod of her head.

“Sir.” Charlotte said, before giving me her whole attention, she questioned me.

“Are all the dresses done, Ava?” She asked me.

I darted a look at Jasper before clearing my throat a little. I gestured towards the rack of all the finished dresses.

“Yes. All the dresses are done with their fittings.” I answered her. She nodded her head.

“Why did you give her to deal with the fittings of all these dresses? Especially for such a main deal? I thought you would go to the reserved section of professionals that are specifically hired for this job. I thought that you could make better decisions than this.” He told her bluntly.

Charlotte's face formed into a scowl, coming up with a sharp reply.

“I know about the reserved section but at the moment they are busier with other dresses and stuff related to the upcoming fashion week clothes. The one that was supposed to be finished tomorrow night. This deal is important but not as important as the upcoming fashion week.” She took a deep breath before continuing with her answer.

“And why did I hire her? Because I have seen her work which was quite good. She had done this work with fitting earlier. If you had seen her work, you would agree with me. Also, didn’t you tell me to involve her in the work? As I saw fit? This time I saw her fit for this work thus I did what you told me to.” She told him and finally finished with her answer.

All this time, Jasper was staring at her with an expressionless face. Finally, he moved. He nodded at the rack beside us.

“Show me then. Show me her work.” He ordered Charlotte.

With a look of defiance on her face, and began rummaging through the dresses, maybe trying to pick up the best one. But I interrupted her.

“Excuse me, Ma'am,” I said. Giving my best efforts to not sound nervous, from the new information that I was going to give it to her.

She raised her head and looked at me.

“What?” A sharp, clean cut question.

The look of her eyes clearly warning me from not telling her any news of any problem. It was for a fact that her pride was on the line. Especially after she vowed in front of the boss.

I reached out and picked the last five dresses that I had put an extra effort to. I handed her all the dresses.

“I had some extra time so I put in some extra effort in these dress fittings.” I told her. Her eyes gleamed at me from what looked like … proud?

She opened up the white plastic cover and took out one dress. Charlotte handed him it before backing off and letting him take a look at the material that he held in his hand.

Jasper grabbed the dress and began probing at the dress.

And nervousness began creeping in.

From all the things I knew about this deal, it was clear that the dealers wanted the raw fittings and a changeable fabric. That was the main reason that this dress was not sewed and finished properly.

Finally, when Jasper aka our boss was done with all his interrogation, he nodded his head approvingly.

“You are right. Miss Ava is good at this work.” He told her, before handing Charlotte back the dress. My anxiety receded and a wave of relief passed through my body. Jasper turned to meet my eyes.

“Did you learn this work in your college?” He asked me.

Hesitantly, I nodded.

“That is the work off, one of our professional teams.” He commented. I met his eyes and realised the meaning of his words. Pride filled my veins and I almost smiled but I forced myself not to.

“Thank you, Sir.” I told him. Feeling top of the world. It felt really good to remove his doubt, that he had earlier, in my abilities and skills.

He gave a nod before pushing his hand in his pockets.

“Get this rack into the room. The meeting will be commencing soon.” He said to Charlotte before disappearing from our site and going into the room. Getting ready to attend the upcoming meeting.

On the other hand, we got to work.
